Ryl snorted. "I had like the least bossy dad in the world. He says the bossy has got to be a woman thing, cause he certainly doesn't know where I learned it!" That was partly true. Shen certainly wasn't bossy but, despite the impression he gave of intense laziness, he was quite stubborn.
Now Ryl's tone was slightly skeptical. "I know parents mean well when they try to steer our lives, but-. I dunno, if feels so controlling to me. Maybe it's because I learn best through experience. You can tell me if I run off to the mountains I'll get homesick, or if I fall for a stranger he'll probably break my heart, but I won't really know that until I go through it all on my own."
Ryl made her face relax, so Rai wouldn't think she was scolding. It was just sometimes she felt so strongly about her opinions that she forgot herself for a moment. "Anyway, there's no guarantee that things will happen for us the way they did for our parents in their youth. And maybe you'll fail, maybe you won't. It's like I always say, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

"You must have gotten lucky and didn't get stuck with a bossy one. My dad was at times thats for sure," Rai grumbled a bit before dropping the subject.
"I agree it seems better to learn from your own experience but parents caring for us never want us to get hurt and try and manage it the best they can. They know they wont be able to save us from everything but they will try to bring it to a minimum."He pointed out to her but did agree with what she was saying.

Ryl sighed in a slightly defeated manner. "Yea. Well for the most part they're doomed to failure. And when I have kids I'm probably gonna go back on everything I just said here and try to steer their lives away from potential pitfalls as well."
She shrugged. "It's probably something that parents just can't help, even if their approach to raising kids differs from fox to fox."

"That is probably right except for the foxes that don't want anything to do with their kids. Than the kids wander threw life not knowing and having more trouble with others than maybe they would have to begin with."Rai stopped and waited wondering if they should change the subject or completely change what they were doing.

"I've known a couple foxes that never knew their parents, and most of them come out just as good as those who do. Sometimes better, cause they're more social to make up for the lack in their childhood," Ryl said, chuckling a little.
"I've never met a parent that wanted nothing to do with their children though. That's so sad. Even if you never wanted them, it just seems wrong to take it out on the kids themselves." Ryl tilted her head. "I could have offspring with someone I absolutely detested, but I'd still give those kids all the love I could." She sighed. "But maybe that's just another thing that's unique to my kind of upbringing."

"You're right I have meet some that where just fine but others they aren't and it really harms them. Some are to blinded by the fact that they hate the other parent and take it out on the kid or the kid reminds em of the parent. They don't see that its not the kids fault which is a shame." Rai sighed as well. He had know a couple of foxes where that was the case and felt bad for em. Looking over at Ryll he was glad to here this wasn't so with her.
Clearing his throat he asked, "Do you...um.. want to play?"

Ryl nodded, and sighed through her nose. She honestly didn't know enough about her mother to really say what kind of fox she was. The only memory she had of Stella was that overemotional controntation with Shen. She didn't know if her mother hated her dad or not though. Hopefully not, she and her sister looked an awful lot like Dad.
Ming had enough of Stella in her though that maybe it wouldn't be an issue. How would she have fared, if it was her with Stella and Ming with Dad?
Ryl was mildly taken aback by the abrupt change in subject. She turned her head to look at Rai, and blinked. She got over it pretty quickly though. "A game? Like what? There's not a whole lot out here," she said, chuckling.

Rai was relieved when she didn't shoot down the idea right away. She looked like she found it slightly amusing. To him it looked like she had been thinking to hard on a subject that could hurt one's feelings if thought about to long.
He glanced around seeing mostly grass but closer to a mountains edge. "Well we could race, play tag or I don't know something else?" He suggested.

Ryl laughed. "Well I don't know about your gene pool, but my family is more thinkers than runners. We'd start out playing tag and it would turn into hide-and-seek, cause I'd hunker down and hide." Ryl gave Rai a sidelong wink. Even if it were daylight she was confident in her hiding ability, but at night when the terrain was in her favor? Rai'd lose her pretty darn quick.

"Oh well I am from a family of runners but we can do hide and seek to thats always a good wit challenging game," he said with a chuckle. It would put him to the test to find her that was clear but it was ok he was up to the challenge.
Looking around he asked "Since you know this area better than me where would be a good place to play this game?"

Ryl paused to speculate over the question. "There's a lone tree up ahead," she finally said. "If you have good night vision you can actually see it in the distance from where we are now, but unless you know it's there is can be easy to overlook. It's kinda scrawny. We can make that our base, and only go so far away from the tree so we don't lose each other in all this field."
Ryl cocked her head and looked at Rai. "Whatcha think, sound good?"

Rai looked off into the distance for the tree and passed over it twice in his search "Your right that is a scrawny tree," He commented as he gazed around the area.
Nodding his head he said "Yeah that sounds good what will be our distance?"

Ryl hummed tonelessly as she thought. "Fifty foot radius," she said. "We don't wanna go so far that we lose sight of the tree. Since we can only work on limited distance and not many unique ways to hide," Ryl said, grinning as she cast a significant look to all the tall grass surrounding them, "I say we should be able to move around. That way you don't have to sit in one spot waiting for the other to find you, and it's fair cause you risk the peril of being heard as you move and giving away your location."

"That sounds more like Hide-n-seek tag. But ok 50 feet that works,"Rai nodded heading for the tree. "And remember its at your own peril," he mumbled out as he approached the tree and sat in front of it. He figured he would let her hide first since she was the lady and it was his idea for the game. "What am i counting to?" he called out to her with his eyes closed.

Ryl laughed. "Hey, meshing the games is fun! That way we gotta find each other first, then catch each other! And fifteen seconds should do it," she said, grinning cheekily. She'd have said ten, but she wanted to try for a little stealth.
