Faran The Vupix eagerly continued onward, his tails waving excitedly; sure they were behind but they could catch up! The finish line was right in front of them, all they had to do was get the rest of the way there. "We've got this!" he said encouragingly to Puer. He was misreading the Rhyhorn's hesitations for fear of crushing him as nervousness for going faster just out of not wanting to hurry. The Vulpix did his best to keep proper pace with him, a mixture of taking several hurried steps followed by stopping for a moment for his partner to take another step. In they end, they did manage to cross the finish line in one piece, and Faran waited eagerly for the results. Whether they won or lost, it had been really fun. "I think we were awesome Mr. Rhyhorn!" he said, then paused for a moment, "Ummm Mr. Rhyhorn, what's your name?"

Puer
Puer tried his best to maintain the stride they had had before; it seemed to work fairly well. A few quick steps from Faran and one longer from his.
Fortunately the person who had tied them together had given them a bit of extra slack since Puer's skin was rock solid extremely tough, so they needed a bit of extra give.
He was more than a little relieved when they managed to cross the finish line without dying. If he had tugged the Vulpix too hard and he had ended up underfoot...
The hyperactivity of Faran, however, was not expected at the end.
"Ah... I'm Puer. Sorry for not introducing myself earlier."

"Haha! That was quite the race! My congratulations to one and all; you made a commendable effort!"
From his cape he produced a single envelope.
"But of course, there can be only one winner! Although the race was quite close, there may be only one!"
The Lucario swept down and offered the envelope to the Glaceon and Manectric couple. With a tap of his free hand, a single golden ticket.
"My congratulations to the couple! As they say, 'to the victor go the spoils'. Please come redeem the ticket at the end of the day."
With a sweeping motion and something of a fantastic leap, he was directly in front of Tris and Maestro.
"Although you did not win, you got the next best thing!"
With another tap of his free hand, two red tickets shot out; one for each of them.
"And let us not forget our remaining contestants!"
Three blue tickets came out which were given to the team of Red & Blue.
The Lucario then pulled on the edge of the envelope. It quickly caved in on itself and disappeared, leaving two blue tickets in his hand.
"And, of course, to our last place contestants. Although you did not win, you tried hard! My congratulations for your effort."
In a puff of smoke that came from nowhere, the Lucario vanished.

  Zero && ZoseeThe two of them accepted the ticket graciously. "Well that was fun." Zero commented, massaging his sore right foreleg as Zosee placed the ticket in her bag. Zosee helped Zero stand as he tested his weight. Not bad, he seemed to have twisted it slightly, but that'll go away after a few minutes. The two approached the other contestants, both with a large smile on their face. "That was a good race. Very close too. Good job everybody." Zosee talked to them in general. "And you two did amazing for what you had to work with." Zero told Faran and Puer, giving a slight bow.

Tris & Maestro Both Maestro and Tris applauded for Zero and Zosee, respectfully recognizing the winners. Maestro accepted his Ticket with grace and a polite nod to the Lucario who handed it to him. Tris merely took it and stared with wonder at the marvelous Red Ticket. They were second highest only to Gold Tickets right? So that meant that they were special. Second place wasn't bad at all in his book, although first would have been nice. The duo politely applauded the two groups after them, and as the crowds began to disperse, Tris smiled at Maestro putting their Tickets safely into their bag. "Not bad Maestro!" he said, a playful grin on his face, "We got second place! How's that for a job well done?"
Maestro looked as though he was about to respond with a displeased comment when the two victors came over to talk to the rest of them. His expression changed to a polite smile, "To you as well," he replied to Zosee's comment, "You both were excellent, a finely tuned Team."
Tris nodded, "Yeah, you two work together very well I'm sure," he added, "Are you Leaders of a Rescue Team as well?" It was obvious that they were a couple, that part didn't need to be asked. Faran "It's no problem Puer," Faran said with a smile, "We had to focus on the race, right?" He was surprisingly undaunted by the fact that they had come in last, even though he'd wanted to win he seemed to be more of the type who enjoyed things for the game, not the winning or losing. "Plus we got these cool tickets too!" he held up his own Blue Ticket with a smile.
The Vulpix's smile broadened as Zero acknowledged them. "Thanks!" he said, although he didn't really see what the Glaceon meant by "what they had to work with." In his mind, he and Puer had been the perfect pair. They weren't that far behind the others, they'd just had a bit of trouble getting started, that was all. ((Just using the extra ticket as a plot device Cy, don't worry. I'll have Faran lose it later or something.))

Zero && Zosee Zero took a look at Zosee who considered this for a moment. "I disbanded the team because it wasn't the same without you dear. But since you're back, Team Absolute Indignation is back as well."Good enough for him. "So yes, we've been exploring together for well over a decade. We haven't been working with the guild until recently, and we plan to leave after the current situation gets dealt with."Zosee had noted the "as well' at the end of Tris's question. "You two lead a team as well then? I don't believe I've seen you around the guild before. In fact..." Zosee cocked her head curiously for a moment before continuing. "I'm afraid I'm not entirely sure what species you are. Are you from the Five Islands?"The comment was aimed at the ditto-turned-Mienfoo. Zosee hasn't exactly gotten herself familiar with the fifth set of Pokemon yet.

Truth be told, the Rhyhorn probably cared less about the reward than Faran did.
Team Southern Cross had... so much money. WAY too much money. Even though the Move Tutor business didn't get much attention from the guild members (which was honestly surprising) it had huge attendance from the regular civilian populace. Times were getting tough, but for many people in the city leaving wasn't an option. Either the city was all they knew or they weren't strong enough to brave the wilds...
Either way, they ended up in the Move Tutor. Since it offered more hands-on training than the Dojo, they ended up taking in a lot of weak individuals.
The prices weren't too cheap for something like that, but the alternative was getting eaten in the wild or dying to whatever attacked the city.
"Thanks. You two look like you had a bit of a hard time too..."
Zosee towered over her husband. It wasn't nearly as bad an arrangement as Puer and Faran, but all the same.
"It was a lot of fun."

( Red & Blue )Blue looked at the three tickets they were given, they didn't do so bad! If it wasn't for that fall they had maybe they could have won first. He bent over and untied his leg from Reds, the Vulpix waving her paw around madly. "Oh thank god..." she mumbled, looking up at the tickets. She took one and pressed it against Blue, "Hey! They blend right in!" She said, snickering. He looked down at her with an annoyed look, "Stop that" he said, putting the tickets at a safe distance from her. She stuck her tongue out, "Just shove them into your man purse and move on" she said. He gritted his teeth, "Sack. Its a sack" he said, shoving the tickets into the brown sack at his side.
Blue looked up at Zosee, "A good race indeed, we had fun!" he said. Red just nodded in agreement, looking over at the Rhyhorn and Vulpix duo that had come in last. It mush have been tough for them, that other Vulpix must have gotten so dirty! No no no, that was never good. Nonetheless, he looked happy. Going over to the two, she smiled, "Congrats on the blue tickets guys! I guess everyone wins!" She said.
Blue stayed behind and listened to the Glaceon and Manectric couple who had won, looking over at the two pokemon they had been referring to. A Delibird and some other species, what was that? He was curious too, he had never seen anything like it. Wait, what was that? Five islands? What were those? So much to learn, he listened carefully to them.
He looked pretty awkward, just standing there alone and looking at these four talking while he stayed silent. He didn't know this, however, and kept listening.

The Lucario appeared in a puff of smoke, much the same as when he had disappeared some time ago. However, this was a new place and quite some time later.
"Come one, come all! The next contest is about to begin!"
He stood in front of a seemingly abandoned building. Cloth covered it and the door was boarded up, leaving it without detail.
With a tap of his hand, the boards fell to the ground and the cloth sailed into the air before wrapping itself into a ball and disappearing.
Lights glittered along the building in malevolent shades and the door was the maw of some ancient beast, complete with pointed teeth.
"Step into this hall of terror and retrieve the five proofs of your journey! They are hidden somewhere within this building; gather each of them and return to claim your prize!"
The Lucario threw his arms into the air and a dramatic, evil laugh sounded from the entrance. Fog spilled out and an obvious wind blew his cape forward.
"But be warned! This is no adventure for children; for within you will find the most terrifying things!"

This contest is a writing exercise! Write as much or as little as you please.
The entries will be graded on the following criteria:
Creativity
Quality
Tone/Theme
Length will also be considered, though not significantly.
Your writing, regardless of other factors, has the following restrictions.
You may meet other pokemon, but using them to pad length and distract from a lack of description/narration/etc. is a no-no!
There are five distinct areas within the building.
At least one of these is a mirror maze, because I'm interested in seeing what people can do with it.
Your story must end with your group leaving the building, but not any further (ie: rewards) or any earlier (ie: not leaving)
Other than that, you have free reign! You can do whatever you want. Feel like making it legitimately terrifying? Sure. Want it to be corny as hell? Why not. Aside from the above and the inherently obvious, there are no limitations.
The inherently obvious being things like "No, Arceus does not come down to help you through the maze".
Submissions must be posted in this thread. The time limit is 9 PM EST.
If you will be slightly late, please contact me as I will begin reading at 9 PM. If you're going to be 10~15 minutes late on submitting, that's fine.
But don't test my patience! I'm a nice guy, but I will cut people off who are too late.
Edit: The time has been extended until around 7 PM Monday.

Tris & Maestro A smile spread across Tris' face revealing his evident delight at the question. These were the moments the Ditto lived for; taking on the role of another, even at a moment's notice. It wasn't mean-spirited, or to trick other Pokemon, it was quite simply for his own amusement. No one ever met him in the same form twice. The Ditto bowed, "Yes, two for two ma'am," he replied, eyes glimmering merrily, "Mienfoo are Fighting Types from the Five Islands." The best part about the whole thing was that he wasn't lying at all, it was simply an implication.
Maestro smiled a bit as well, amused by the irony of the situation; here he was, an actual Five Islander, yet his partner was the one getting the questions for it. "My partner and I met by chance," he informed the Glaceon and Manectric, "He happened to have heard rumors of the Guilds here on the mainland and took a long journey to get there. We happened to stumble across each other's paths before we arrived, and decided to form a Team together." He chuckled a bit, "Sometimes our partnership is a little difficult because of the vast differences of our cultures, but I'd like to think we manage rather well most of the time."
Tris smiled, "If you've never taken a visit to the Five Islands I suggest you try to at some point," he said to their audience of three, "Pokemon around here seem to be rather amazed by those of us who live there but of course, it's the same with us about them. There are books and other things about the four generations of our kind who live here; but to actually see them is quite the experience after so so many years of isolation." He nodded to the others, "I must say though, it's quite worth my while. I'm very glad to have joined the mainland Guilds, and now that I've been here a while, I could honestly say that I wouldn't rather be anywhere else."Ethfael & Faran "It was, wasn't it?" Faran said cheerfully to Puer's comment to Zero, jumping up and down on all paws. He was delighted that the Rhyhorn had seemed to enjoy it too, "We should do it again sometime! Then we'll win for sure!" When the other Vulpix came over, Faran happily accepted the congratulations, "Thanks, you and your partner were really good too," he told her, "Even when you fell over you still got back up and kept going, that's awesome!"
A Dragonair made his way over to the excited Vulpix, a smile on his face. "Nicely run Faran," he said to him, "You and Puer did very well." Ethfael had naturally been watching from the sidelines, slightly unnerved by the Rhyhorn and Vulpix's pairing just like everyone else, but it had turned out alright in the end; and that was what mattered.
"Thanks Ethfael!" Faran said happily, "Everyone did great!"

The Rhyhorn took in the comments from both Vulpix and the Dragonair and simply gave one blanket response.
"Yeah... I'm glad everything turned out fine."
Oh god, those brief... flashing images.
The splatter would be everywhere.
The Rhyhorn took a quick look around. Now that the race was finished and the pokemon had dispersed, it was kind of an odd place to stay.
"Maybe we should head somewhere else...?"

Zero && Zosee "I'm glad that you've had a good experience on the mainland." Zero told Tris with a smile, giving a small bow. "We'll be sure to give the Islands a visit some day. I'd to love to map the area." Seeing as how over the past decade Team Absolute Indignation had mapped most of the Eclipse Region, having a new area to work towards was always exciting. "Well then, it was great meeting you. In case we ever run into each other again, I'm Zero and this is my mate, Zosee, of Team Absolute Indignation." The Glaceon introduced themselves, and they waited for the other team to give their own names before saying farewell. Zero was looking forward to finding somewhere to rest and allow his leg some time to recover.

Tris & Maestro Tris and Maestro smiled in return, "Ah, pardon our manners," Maestro said, "My name is Maestro and my partner here is called Tris. We're the Leaders of Team Night Mirage, a newer Team in the Guild." He smiled, "Hopefully we'll meet again sometime." They gave a final farewell to the Glaceon and Manectric before heading off in the opposite direction towards the midway and something else to do. It wouldn't do to get in the way of another event that was taking place after all.
"You surprised me," Tris commented to Maestro once they were out of earshot, "I thought you weren't one to talk to other people."
Maestro smirked, "I am a man of many talents," he replied, "Just because I don't choose to engage a conversation, doesn't mean that I can't hold one. It's just like what you do, "playing a role" is what you call it, I call it wearing a mask."Ethfael & Faran Ethfael nodded to Puer's suggestion, "Yes, you're probably right," he replied, "Is there anywhere you'd like to go Faran?" They'd have to catch up to Era and the other two at some point, but Faran and Puer had just run a hard race, so why not treat the kid a bit?
Faran jumped up and down excitedly, "Oh! Ohhh! I heard that there was an Arcade!" he replied, "Can we go play some games?" He asked, then with a second glance at the Rhyhorn he added, "And can Puer come too?"
Ethfael chuckled, "Yes, we can go to the Arcade, but it's up to Puer whether he wants to come or not, he may have other plans."
Faran looked at Puer excitedly, "You should come with us!" he said cheerfully, then added with a puzzled look, "Unless you have something else that you have to do that is." Then, without another thought, Faran hurried off down the path toward the Arcade.
Ethfael paused a moment to see if Puer would follow and once the Rhyhorn headed one way or another he would follow Faran, still having to keep an eye on the young Vulpix, who by this time was far ahead, racing towards the games.
