Nightfall came, and with it, more cold weather. The stars had all twinkled in the sky, like tears drops, and the sorrowful, nearly turned over moon shined over the land. It's glow radiated the ground, and set the scene for an average night over the mountains. Up on the top of the cliff just a ways from the clan was Raj over at his own special place for resting his weary soul. Almost witchcraft like, the moon communicated a tune in his heart and lifted the days troubles like dirt off of him. He listened carefully to what the song sounded like; like echos.
Raj stood up and shook the snow off of his stomach before turning around. He wanted to go back and check on the two who slumbered in his burrow. As he walked back, he heard the sound of two wolves feet tracing their shapes into the snow. Raj stopped after he heard what they were talking about. Their voices grew louder by the second.
"... Yes, tonight. This can't continue. It has become to dangerous." "You mean the outsiders?" "What do think I'm talking about!? That also includes our long-time friend Raj." "Sorry. We better get ready, then." "We 'are' ready, they're waiting for us back at the camp."
The voices and footsteps trailed off towards the camp. The countdown started, and pressure began to fill his mind. He had brought them here, so it wasn't fair that they had to deal with this.
Raj darted towards his home with speed, the scent of his markings making the trip quick. He clawed at the snow that had built up and nuzzled them both to get their attention. Then-
A howl. A fighting call rang through the night.
"Get up!! Get the hell up, we need to go!!" he barked.

Raven woke, "Wha...?" he whispered, he was a light sleeper, so he was already standing, and since Raj was tense, he assumed the worst, "They want us dead, huh?" he asked, he shook his head, "We better get going then." he was calm, this wasn't his first life or death experience.

Raj continued trying to wake the other wolf, he was nervous. His thoughts started rushing, usually, if the clan has a problem, the lower level members take care of it, but I can hear all of them!
Raj tried to think of what to say to the suddenly awoken wolf, then said, "They're casting suspicion on us, they are always so uptight about letting other people in, but this..." Raj stopped. "This is just senseless, and it's all that damned alpha's fault!"
Raj stopped shaking the other wolf and moved towards the bear skin pelt that was lying on the floor. He picked it up with his mouth, and waited for the other wolf to awaken.

Raven paced back and forth, "How are we going to get out of here?" he asked. "Surely they are watching this burrow!" he then had an idea, "Raj, as soon as he wakes up, both of you get ready to leave, I will go create a distraction."

(Sorry for the wait, I missed the activity)
Fields bolted awake, barely catching what Raven was saying. "No," he mumbled "I'll do it, I'm almost positive that I'm the fastest one here. I wouldn't be able to live with my self if you two were hurt. I'll run out and lead them towards the cliff. You two head to my cave, it's secluded, but if can find the scent, you'll find the cave." He padded to the burrow's entrance and listened intently to the sounds of the coming pack. There were a lot of them, and he hoped that none of them were as fast as him. He doubted it, if it was one thing he was good at, it was running.

Raven growled, "No." he said, walking to the entrance, "I swore to myself that I would help you two leave..." he looked at Raj, "Thank you for everything." he said with a smile, then he turned serious again, "If I don't find you guys, don't come looking for me." he said, running out the burrow, he barked and caught the attention of the hostile wolves.
He ran, faster than he ever did before, praying that the other two will survive.

Fields watched as Raven ran out, he felt a deep saddness that the boy was risking himself for their sake, but knew that Raven was doing what needed to be done. He looked to Raj, "Okay, my cave isn't that far from here, if you can stand the cold, then we might make it."

Raven wove his way through the trees, darting through bushes and away from the wolves, he was running out of options.
He saw a pile of snow ahead, he didn't think about it, he leaped into it.
The wolves came to the end of the sent trail, "What the..." one of then said, "He's gone!"
The confused wolves ran off to search for him.

"RAVEN!" Raj vociferated over the hill in front, James' scent coming closer. Raj peeked over and found him buried in the snow. "Raven, I don't give a DAMN how brave you think you are, that's just stupid! Don't be a hero, you're up against over fifty men who've been trained to kill on instinct, and they're all together. Now get moving! We can leave and be safe without the violence if we head to the west past the trench!" Raj cursed enough to make his point, and deserve a good punch in the mouth. It was stupid to just fight, the trench was an easy, and close way out. They could go for however long their legs could push them, and the clan would just be settled with the fact that they ran them out of their home.

Raven shook the snow off of him, smiling, "What a rush, didn't I tell you NOT to look for me?" he asked, then looked at him, "The trench... got it." he said, running west.

"I'm glad that you've come to your senses," Raj said. Raj was part of the team of tacticians, and a better one than the rest. Even so, his voice wasn't completely heard. "Listen, the only thing that we need to be careful of is if that trench becomes unstable and some of the rocks fall from it." Raj paced forward to go back and get the other wolf. He found him, and informed him as well. "Sorry for ignoring you before," Raj told him, "but that was just so I wouldn't waste any time saving Raven from a suicide mission. Now let's move!"

Raven looked at him with an eyebrow raised, "Suicide? I don't like fighting, but I can." he said, "Pretty well, I could have easily taken at least four of them out." he said, with a slight grin, This size isn't just for intimidation, he wanted to add, but instead just followed Raj cautiously.

"Self-conceit is never something that you should practice," Raj snapped. What did he want? A 'mountains toughest wolf,' award? If he wanted to say that he could take a clan full of wolves that would attack at once, then he was mental. Raj already met some tough wolves in his life time, and watched them die at the hands of six or seven killers. Fantasy, although fun to tell tales of, was something that was impossible. What Raven had said was fantasy.

Raven sighed, "Well, what did you want me to say? 'I would've died at the first hit'?"he asked sarcastically, "I respect you Raj, you've done a lot." he said, "You would make a fine Alpha."

Fields followed them, not really adding to the conversation. He had nothing to say. When they reached the canyon, he took point, he'd been through here a few times on the way to get herbs and knew a few of the safer spots to run. "Just follow my movements and we should get out just fine." He heard Raven make the Alpha comment and smirked, yes, Raj would make a good Alpha, but that was Raj's decision to make. Fields kept close eye on the rocks he waas stepping on, the slightest wrong step could dislodge a cascade of rocks and bury them alive. It was a gamble that he was willing ot take.
