  Ah, I once again return to this thread. xD;
Since we all already covered the basics, I'll post other things.
1. Make sure your badge is safe. My friend Celes (First post on the previous page), lost her badge in the First Mariner Arena. Not a happy scene. We searched around for it, and the staff there didn't even help us! It was pretty rude. We asked them to, and all. We found it, then she lost it again. She had to use her mom's badge from then on.
2. Don't yell out that you own a character. You WILL be attacked.
3. Don't bring a sign, unless you want it to be put on a giant wall for everyone to see.
4. Try not to get lost. The convention center is really big. If you get seperated from your group, the Otacafe is a GREAT place to meet up. It worked for my friends and I.
5. Don't be annoying. People will ignore you or be mad at you. That's no way to have fun, is it?
6. Is there another game of some sort this year? I don't know. Stay away from drunk people in general. Last year, some drunken baseball fan had a failed and bad attempt to grab my a**. x______x;;
7. If you lose something... Then you might not get it back. Take into consideration the fact the the convention center is huge, full of 25,000 screaming raging anime fans. I know, it's sad, but there are some greedy fans out there.
8. Remember kids, do not have the whole, "WILL FIGHT FOR HUGS AND OR POCKY!!" thing. Bad. They find it as a form of prostitution.
Hmm. More later. xD;

hello, I am one of those nice little rural districts in the south beside a decent town. And we still have the drunks and the homeless ppl who are willing to do nething to get booze. I have been to D.C. and if any more little idiot kids say "i've been to D.C., that's a city, so Baltimore's gunna be fine" I'm saying right here and now that: yes, d.c. does have ppl that are asking for money for good causes but Baltimore is a big Northern city*i'm editing this bc baltimore is in a border state but the city seems more northern than southern that is all* (no offence to nothern ppls just sayin' y'all's got some violence issues up there) and most of the ppl asking for money are homeless ppl who will do bad things to you. also the bad ppl wont be noticed by ppl around you bc there's a lot more of them. also they may be the only ppl around you. so in the case of big cities if you feel comfortable holding the big guy's in your group hand plz do so. we don;t wanna get separated and we don't wanna get killed raped ect. and if you have a southern accent (like i do sometimes) and a dude who doesn't like it starts yelling at you plz ignore and keep walking it's all for the best. trust me on this one.

Well, warnings people! I've lived near Baltimore all my life, isn't a month I haven't spent at least a few hours in the city. Okay, first, do not give the homeless money. Yes, it's a good deed, but people might try and mug you. Secondly, do not go in alley ways. People love short cuts, I know, but alleys have angry homeless, drug dealers, and more not nice peoples. Take streets Thirdly, if you are alone, try and walk behind a big group of people. It'll make you look less vunerable. Although, I suggest coming with lotsa people. Fourth-ly....THIS YEAR IS A KILLER! The humidity and heat are horrid and now combine that with a polluted city enviorment, dress lightly kids. Fifthly, Food isn't hard to find. Next to the Convention Center is the harbor where the mall is! And the mall has a wonderful food court with lotsa options! Sixly, Keep purses and all bags close. You don't wanna get it snatched, do ya? Seventhly, Make sure you have a sure ride. Make sure you can afford a taxi or have a friend because walking around B-more at night is how we have one of the biggest crime rates in America. Eightly, Don't walk around like a tourist. This makes you an obvious target. If you're lost, don't get whimpery, try and find the nearest restaurant/establishment and ask for directions back to the convention center.
Well, this is all I have for now. Ciao~

Heh, I live here in Baltimore, and I've said all of this before in this thread buuuuut...
Alright, it's true, we have some violence issues out here. If you find yourself outside alone at night, which I suggest avoiding, then try and find a group of people from the con that you've seen before, and don't go up to random people. Dangerous, very dangerous. Especially in Baltimore.
Also, Baltimore is a big city. Personally, I could probably walk home from the BCC and I don't live close to it, but that's because I live here. It's easy to get lost, so if you do don't panic, just go into the nearest store/resturaunt and ask for directions.
Oh yes, girls, I warn you of something. Avoid drunks, at all times. A friend of mine had a drunk "fall" on her and in the process he ended up "accidentally" groping here.

I live in the Baltimore area, but not inside the city itself. Severn is a rather docile town, so I wouldn't to give any tips other than what Anise (Question! By the Anise in your name, is it by any chance from Tales of the Abyss?) has already given.

BEFORE ANYONE ELSE POSTS, PLEASE READ:
I'm going to assume that all the people who said that they live in Baltimore either live in the county or like Pikesville or some other nicer part. Therefore their opinion isn't too helpful.
Okay yes, Baltimore is a crime-ridden city, but (as I seem to endlessly repeat) most violent crime happens deep in the West side or the East side, NOT THE INNER HARBOR. Do not dispute me. I worked in Criminal Filing for 2+ years (aka the place where they send records of all the crimes for the year.) What I have learned from this:
1.) The most common crime is not murder. It is not rape. (That is actually the most rare. And most of those are between parties that both know each other. Seriously, that is some ******** up stuff I read.) It is not robbery. It is drug abuse/dealing. Of all the violent crimes, they happen between parties WHO KNOW EACH OTHER. So unless you are going to visit "Shorty" in Cherry Hill you're not gonna get shot or beaten or stabbed.
2.) Do not act up at Otakon. I don't want to have extra work to do on Monday.
Also if this is not enough experience for you, I have walked through many bad neighborhoods in my life. I used to go to school right across the street from Central Booking. (No, not making this up. St. Frances Academy, a catholic school is located behind the main jail for the city with the highest murder rate.) Many students from my school can say that they have sat on the #8 bus stop with newly released convicts and nothing has happened to them. I've walked from my school to the Harbor countless times and the only thing that ever happened was a guy wanted my phone number, which I declined in giving. I've gone to summer school and lived in Liberty Heights. I went to school and live with the kids that go to Woodlawn. I've also never been in a fight in my life. And I KNOW these asshats.
Point is, no Baltimore isn't a paradise. But its not like you'll get shot the minute you get out the car/plane/whatever. Jesus, people. Common sense. Don't put a target out for yourself by doing stupid s**t but relax.
And if you want the general opinion on Otakon-goers its that you all are creepy or weirdos. They either find you amusing or are slightly scared of you. It's pretty much the same as what you think of them.

Kuro Kitsune-chan BEFORE ANYONE ELSE POSTS, PLEASE READ: I'm going to assume that all the people who said that they live in Baltimore either live in the county or like Pikesville or some other nicer part. Therefore their opinion isn't too helpful. No offense meant but uh... quite honestly, I live INSIDE city limits, in Hampden. I go to school At BPI, there was an arrest and all not too long ago on campus involving weapons. Not some nice little neighborhood or the county. And I've posted her. Several times. People I know that live in other areas of the city that aren't so good have posted here, several times. Not meant to offend you or get off topic here, but that assumption was kind of off. At any rate though, to be on topic, I have little to say anymore about Baltimore itself. I think it should be common sense. However, for those of you coming to the city for the first time, be warned. There are so many tourist traps that it's hard for people that live here not to get caught. If you value your money and want it for the Dealer's room, don't go out and shop around at the Harbor Place. However, I admit, eating at there during Otakon isn't too expensive, just pick the right places. EDIT: Yep, Pure_Sango, that is where my username came from.

Even if you don't live in Baltimore and live in the county people know what they need to. Especially if you've gone there enough and worked there. And I've been going to con for years now with people from around the area.
As for during Otakon, most people from around the area try to stay away from anyone cosplaying during the day. Thats just the way people are. I'd stick around the Inner Harbor to keep safe. Pretty much, there are some pretty bad neighborhoods if you wander too far away from the convention.
And for cheap food, the places they have listed on the map and schedule each year are within a good distance and reasonably priced. Unless you're willing to dish out over 10 bucks for food, I'd stay away from Hard Rock Cafe, ESPN Zone, Cheesecake Factory and California Pizza Kitchen. There are plenty of places to eat!
If you're really there for the anime and shopping, you won't leave the convention center for anything but food and sleep. Unless you're from not around and site seeing, do your research ahead of time on how you're traveling to get there and how long its going to take. Light rail and Metrobuses are the cheapest way. Just get the all day pass and you're good to go.

Yeah, I'm trying to think of something else to say, but not coming up with anything else.
@Celes: Yeah, I go to BPI, too, obviously. >w>;;
-Don't stay out too late, yeah. -Don't wear heavy fur suits unless you want to die of heat.
And I have an Otakon guide in my journal, but I haven't updated it in a year.

It's just I've been reading through the Baltimore Survival guide for the past three years and it's always "Oh I lived near/in Baltimore and it's a horrible place and you'll get raped and mugged and shot at." The people rarely give where they're from, how long they've lived there and exaggerate beyond all belief. I just kinda snapped. And (depending on what part) Hampden is a pretty bad area from what I hear. Some it's nice though. Also, thank you for bringing up the tourist traps. I haven't seen that in the Baltimore Survival Guide yet. Wait...BPI? You mean Baltimore Polytechnic Institute? (Sorry not good with schools xp ) You might know some acquaintances of mine. (And sadly I can one-up the arrest for weapons at your school. Can you say 4 bomb threats in 5 days and one of your classmates arrested and charged with attempted murder during summer break?)

My tip for Otakon: -Bring a backpack. (and bring water bottles. They are expensive in there! I didn't know that I could bring in a backpack and food inside.) -Bring a lot of money! -Sunday isn't a big day there. I just leave late saturday night.
