Pachu'a glanced the way that the other had indicated. He blinked in surprise. Sweet grass? Was that actually sweet grass? While it wasn't as rare as some plants he dealt with, Pachu'a couldn't recall the last time he had the opportunity to sample the treat. He gave a grateful nod to the other stallion, then headed over towards the grassy knoll, slow enough for his companion to walk with him, should he so choose.
Lian would like sweet grass. Had she ever tried it? He couldn't recall. It felt like her childhood had vanished in a snap. Where had that time gone?
No! He did not miss it. He didn't. Lian clearly wasn't coming back, clearly he meant nothing to her. He had no daughter, she was just a passing moment. That was all. So it didn't hurt. He wouldn't let it hurt.

Arden walked slightly behind the other stallion, his mind was far elsewhere. What had ever made him think that he could give any good advice to Acacia on a situation like that? He'd never been very good with social stuff, but to have kept a secret like that from her, she said it was unbearable.
How could he have denied her the knowledge that her sister might be alive? Had he known for sure, he would have told her. But he hadn't wanted to hurt her, or give her false hope. But somehow this hurt her far worse. Why hadn't he just been honest with her?

Pachu'a glanced back at the other stallion, and gave him an understanding ear flick. It seemed as though they both had their own internal pains to work through. No, Pachu'a didn't. he refused to let it hurt. Refused. So what if Lian never came to visit. So what? It didn't hurt. It didn't. Blast it all, it didn't!

A cold wind blew across the clearing, and Arden remembered it was coming to fall. It would be time to harvest very soon, and prepare for winter. Prepare for the coming of Voodoo.
"Do you need any of this?" Arden offered his companion.

Pachu'a took a mouthful, then nodded for his friend to take some while he chewed. Friend? Really? With how much he spoke? Well, he clearly was troubled, perhaps even a kindred spirit. And he did talk less then so many others. Maybe he had potential. Friend? How long had it been since he had a friend? Did he even want a friend again? He wasn't sure. He wasn't sure of a lot of things, recently. Well, things would be what they would be, and then maybe he'd know.

Arden took a deep breathe and munched some grass for a moment. He liked the silence of the other stallion, it was nice to have someone present even if they didn't talk a lot. "It's going to be a cold winter," he remarked.

Well, yes, Pachu'a thought, flicking an ear in irritation. Most winters were, in fact, cold. So why waste words saying as much? Why did some feel the need to constantly speak about what was clear? He did not bother to reply hoping that the other would take the silent rebuke, and no longer speak what needed not to be said. He took another mouthful of grass to soften the emotional blow of the ear flick. He was annoyed, after all, not furious.

His words hadn't been clear, as his thoughts were often muddled. But it was true, the winter would be cold but in a way unlike most would think. "He's coming." He dropped the ominious words. "He's coming back..."
Voodoo was coming, he could feel it like the chill in the wind. Voodoo was drawing closer.

Pachu'a glanced at his friend, as he debated mentally. He could ask for clarification. Who was coming? Why? What did that mean? However, that would probably lead to talking. So few of his fellow Soquilli seemed to understand how to communicate with minimal words. It was quite frustrating. He would grant that some things, such as names, needed to be said. Concepts however often could be discussed without the pointless and irritating noise of voices. Pachu'a had nothing against conversation after all, just words and speaking irritated him. So who would be a request for more information, but would the other understand that the only part that would require vocalization would be the name? And really, Pachu'a didn't even need to know a name, perse, just the reason for the reaction in the other. But would his friend understand that? Pachu'a just was not sure.
Well, he could take the risk, ask to know more, and face the fact that he might invite the other to chatter at him, or he could hold his peace and let the other lapse back into silence, the question unasked and unanswered. The latter, Pachu'a knew, would probably be the more favorable for him. However he was familiar with the frustration of having to express himself, and having no one around who could understand, or who was willing to try.... Lian....No. He would not think of her. Would not.
Finally with a mental sigh, Pachu'a flicked an ear questioningly at his friend with the smallest of nods, allowing the other to get into the open what he needed to. And Pachu'a would know from this if the friendship could last. So... maybe it was worth something to ask after all. It was all on the other, now.

Arden could feel his heart thrumming loudly in his chest. He had sold his soul for this. Would he change it? No. He got the result he wanted...but he was afraid of what it was going to cost the others now.
He saw the other stallion flick his ear in question. He took a long minute to try to figure what to say concisely without irritating the other stallion. "Voodoo is..." He searched for the right word. "Against nature, against everything good. His coming..." He shook his head pretty sure the other stallion would understand.

Pachu'a nodded softly once, to show that he understood. And he did. This was bad. Of course, he did not know if this was bad for everyone or just for his friend, or somewhere in between. After all, against everything natural, everything good could mean that he was actively in opposition to those things. In such a case, he would need to be stopped, and that stopping was the responsibility of all who were good and cared for nature. So certainly that would effect those who were not his friend. It would effect all who were good. No, to be honest, it would effect those like himself as well, those who weren't good at heart, but simply in the way. So for his own personal interest, if nothing else - and there was nothing else, dang it all - he really should help out against this other. If he was actively acting against the good of the good and mediocre, anyway.
But the words could be taken another way. This was part of what Pachu'a hated so much about spoken words. There were so many nuances in what was said or not said that made it confusing and tended to lead to asking for elaboration, which meant more words. It was a vicious cycle and the best way to escape was to avoid it in the first place.
The words could have meant that his physical nature was against everything good, in other words, he could LOOK unnatural, could SEEM evil without being active, or even evil, in the least. From the way Arden spoke, Pachu'a was more inclined to believe the first interpretation, however, his new friend could simply have a weak constitution.
If Arden had communicated non-verbally, his stance, posture, expression... it all would have told the tale. While Pach was glad that Arden had chosen few words of any, he wished still that he had chosen none at all.
Taking a deep breath, Pach squared his shoulders, and lifted his head. He shifted into a pose that was ready to stand and defend, to protect. Not that Pach was the sort to protect anything but his own best interests, mind. But to protect himself, it was better to stand along side another warrior, then behind, giving a foe a chance to recover before closing with him. That was why he would stand at Arden's side. Yep. No other reason. None at all. Now if only he could stop seeing Lian's face in his mind...

Arden was lost in his own thought, troubled that it was his fault that Voodoo had more power than he should. Voodoo was able to come back and do as he wished because of him...Why had he not tried other ways?
But, of course, he had. He had tried other ways of saving her, other ways of finding what to do to keep her alive--but nothing of this world had helped. That was what lead him to Voodoo....He could still remember the chill in the air when he had met with the bone masked stallion.
He remembered the slow, halting words--the swaying of the tree and the charms hanging down. Oh god, what had he done? Why had he thought that going against nature, against all that was good, was a good decision? And why, even though he knew it was a bad choice--why did he not regret it?
Acacia....he loved her. In some ways, she was his first child even if she never thought of him as a father--even if she didn't ever understand what he had done for her. He loved her, and he risked all of heaven and hell for that.
He noticed the other stallion, and he felt his heart swell with emotion that he seemed to stand with him for some reason. He nodded his head gently, in silent thanks.

Pachu'a nodded firmly once. They understood, and no more words were needed. They would stand together and they would defend. They would do what needed to be done. Pachu'a looked to his friend. He would follow his lead, he would let the one who knew the foe better call the shots, and Pachu'a would follow, and make the world safer for Soqs like Lian... No. For himself. He would stand beside his friend to keep himself safe. That was all.

Arden sighed heavily, thoughts of Him pulling him down. He could feel himself sinking beneath the weight of it. But yet, had he the chance to do it again, he would, a million times over to save her.
He knew that was wrong, that it wasn't right to upset nature--to knock off the balance of it for one soul. Yet he had, he would brave hell, a thousand hells for her--his first child.
"Destruction," he said the word softly, his voice breaking at the end.
What had he done?

Pachu'a moved and pressed himself firmly against the other Soq for a moment before stepping back, a show of support.
