A grin was halfway across his face and he almost opened his mouth to make a comment about how Safiya's view on the climb would have been him. He quickly squashed that though. It startled him, really. How long had it been since his response to something was playful flirting? Too long, since he honestly couldn't remember.
Maybe another time. Right now they had both come away from bad relationships. It was perfectly natural to find attraction in companionship after suffering something like that. Rebound was the term, he believed. More than anything though Tyco did not want any more hearts to be destroyed because of him. If what he and Safiya shared was more than friendship, then time would only strengthen that. He could wait.
To distract himself, Tyco led Safiya towards the cliff edge. As they walked his breathing returned entirely to normal, and muscles that were a bit sore relaxed. "Just don't stand to close to the edge if you don't have a head for heights," Tyco warned, as they rounded a tree and the view spread out before them.

Safiya's eyes got round and she gingerly made her way out onto the cliff edge, getting as close as she could before her pulse picked up and apprehension filtered through her. That was her brain's way of saying she'd gone close enough to the edge, thank you very much.
The wind was much stronger out here, but it was blowing back towards the cliffs, so she wasn't in any danger of being blown off into nether space.
"Tyco! Tyco, look!" She said, rather inanely, but she momentarily forgot that he actually lived here. Turning to look over her shoulder, she beamed at him in excitement. It was probably her first completely unguarded moment in a long time, the happy, optimistic fox she had been peeking out.

Tyco blinked. He'd expected that Safiya would enjoy the view, but he hadn't been prepared for such a strong positive reaction. That would probably make his week, being able to bring such a happy and unguarded smile to her face.
He got over his surprise quickly, then returned Safiya's smile and moved forward to stand with her. "Wha'd I tell ya, eh," he said genially. "Quite a view."

She could see everything. The water went on and on into forever, it seemed like. The ocean was so big, it made everything else seem so small, even the hurt that was inside her. With a little sigh, she leaned over slightly, brushing Tyco's shoulder with her own. The sudden contact snapped her out of her thoughts and she gently eased away again. She didn't want to pull back and make him think she didn't like him, but she also didn't want him to think she was forgetting their bargain.
Using the movement, she turned and smiled at him again. "It's a wonderful view. Thank you so much for sharing it with me." She said. Noticing it was getting a little harder to see Tyco, she frowned. It was getting darker, night was coming. Safiya wondered if she could find an empty cave somewhere. "Perhaps you can show me more tomorrow?"

Tyco nodded. "I believe I can manage that," he said. "In fact, the cave system I sleep in during the winter has several openings. I'm sure we can find something to your tastes." He cocked his head to the side and gave Safiya a crooked grin. "I'll even help you gather some stuff for bedding if you'd like. There's a pine grove nearby that makes a fragrant and comfy sleeping space."

"Your help would be very much appreciated." Safiya replied with a smile. "And I love the scent pine needles give off, so that's perfect. Do you stay in the cave systems too?" She asked. She figured he did. Cave, as far as her experience went, were probably the safest places to hunker down. Unless the cave was already occupied, of course.

Tyco nodded and turned, beginning the descent down the hill but angling towards the forest this time. "I do live there, yes," he replied. "Usually only in winter though, or when a storm's gonna hit. Or if I just feel like sleeping there. In warm weather though, I usually kip out beneath the trees." He gave Safiya a self-conscious smile. "I like watching the stars."

"It's a little hard to see the stars from right outside my cave. The trees are too thick, you see. But I do know about this rock that I like to use to sun myself in the summer. I bet you could see all kinds of stars from there." Safiya said, following Tyco back down the cliff.
"There's a lake there, the rock leans out over it. Much easier to swim in than your ocean, but much smaller too."

Tyco grinned. "Is that an invitation," he asked. Since downhill was easier to travel uphill they'd been making pretty good time for such a short conversation. The caves actually weren't too far away either. Tyco was almost sad, not wanting to say good night just yet. Well they still had a little further to go, so he'd make the most of it.

"Yes." Safiya said immediately. "I officially invite you to come and stargaze at my rock anytime you want to. The forest may not be as amazing as the ocean, but it's still lovely. And it's very warm at night, perfect for staying out and looking at the sky."

"So you're talking sometime in the spring or summer," Tyco asked, going off the clue of warm nights. He doubted a forest could be warmer than an ocean in the winter. Sure the air was a bit more humid, but the breezes coming from the ocean kept things, if not warm, a comfortable level of cool. Though he would be the first to admit that a real winter storm by the ocean was just as absolutely frigid as it was anywhere else.

"Yes. Wait, no." Safiya replied, shaking her head a little. "Sorry. If you want to stargaze, you'd have to come in either the summer or early autumn. It rains far too much in the spring to see anything through the heavy cloud cover."
She really didn't like that fact, as that meant she wouldn't get to show Tyco her home right away. Still, she wanted to make the trip worth something. "Summer is easier, it's very rarely completely cloudy during summer. Autumn is only good early on, otherwise the clouds start coming in again."

Tyco chuckled. "Sounds a lot like here," he remarked. "I get storms with the seasons as well, but they're just as much a fascinating spectacle as the stars. A bit more terrifying, but still fascinating." And the view of the stars was also very nice here. On a clear night, sitting on the right cliff.... Tyco had never felt so much like a tiny, insignificant speck as he did when stargazing.
And in that amount of time, they'd reached the first of the caves. Most were built into the cliff in some way or another around here, though very few of them actually came out around the ocean. "Ah, getting closer," Tyco said. "Now's the time to pick up anything you think would be useful as bedding." He himself paused to scoop up some old pine boughs and carefully wrap his tail around them.

"The only storms that are terrifying in the forest are the lightning storms. And even those are beautiful when they're far away. Up close though, they have the potential to cause massive damage by starting a fire, especially during or just after summer before the rains." Safiya replied, agreeing with Tyco that the storms were fascinating even while being dangerous.
Reaching down, she clawed at some moss and picked up several chunks. They would give a bit of cushioning and they were very good at insulation. Safiya figured she'd need some of that on this cool night.

Finally they reached the caves. Tyco paused to set down the pine boughs, then looked at Safiya. "Here we are. I can help you get settled in your choice of cave, or leave you here for the night and see you another time." He smilied. "My own den isn't very far away, if you'd need me for anything." His home was actually one of the few cave above ground, tiny but preferable to him than crawling under ground.
((If you want you can do a time skip in your next post to when Tyco's visiting Safiya?))
