Pele was warmed by Sophia's enthusiasm. She smiled at the younger foal as she wiggled and chirped. She almost didn't notice Crown's blush until she turned to him, confused and distressed that he didn't want to dance. Pele tilted her head slightly, studying Crown, trying to decide what the blush was about and why he wouldn't want to dance.
After a moment she realized she was staring and blinked, shook her head and looked at the ground at her feet. "Oh, well, if you don't want to, we don't have to, we should do something everyone would have fun with. I'm sorry, I just . . . I thought . . . never mind."
Pele tried not to be hurt that Crown didn't want to dance, but dancing was such a part of her that the rejection felt personal. She didn't understand his blush or his reticence. And she forgot all about Sophia's enthusiasm as she tried to keep the disappointment from showing on her face.
Pele told herself that Crown wasn't rejecting her, but it still stung. She wished fervently, now, that she had never even suggested dancing. Pele hadn't expected the rejection to hurt this much.

Crown felt guilty. To say any more or less would have been a lie. The look on Pele's face nearly broke him and he found himself looking away. "Sorry." he mumbled and he scrunched up his face as if he was in pain, his mind going over all the ideas he could think of to try and fix the situation... to see Pele smile and dance again. He couldn't believe he had taken it away from her, couldn't believe that she was giving up just because he didn't have faith in his own ability to dance.
All his thoughts concluded one thing. He would have to dance. He sighed softly and tried to force a natural smile onto his face as he spoke, "Let's do it then! Lets dance." He gulped and looked rather sheepish in his nervousness but he did mean his words. If it would make Sophia and Pele happy then he would dance.... and make a fool of himself.
Sophia looked from Pele to Crown and then back again. She didn't really understand what was happening except.... "No dance?" (Noooo dwance?) And with that she burst into tears and fell onto her bottom. Sophia wanted to dance.

Pele sunk into herself for a moment, the world roaring in her ears. She could hear it's song, but suddenly it wasn't music. Then she heard Crown's halting words. Obviously she wasn't very good at keeping her disappointment from her face. It bit hard that he would dance out of pity.
A dance without the soul behind it, longing to be one with the dance, wasn't a dance. What was Crown playing at, but then the thought was lost. Because then Sophia was on the ground and crying.
Pele had forgotten Sophia's enthusiasm in her disappointment at Crown's denial. Suddenly being reminded of it, Pele felt horrible that she had allowed Crown to dissuade her from giving Sophia the gift of dance.
Just now, Pele knew she didn't matter, what mattered was that Sophia wanted to dance and needed someone to show her how. The fact that Pele had never needed that help never entered her mind as the music of the world around her rushed back into her ears. Sophia needed to hear it, needed to feel the freedom that comes with dancing.
With a nod that set aside everything else, Pele turned to the younger foal. "We'll dance Sophia. We'll dance and the world will sing to us while we dance. Crown doesn't need to dance if he doesn't want to, but you and me, we'll dance."
