It really did take forever to find his way around the massive campus, that just happened to be really vacant for an academy. Was there a hibernation class he didn't know about taking place? The gnomes weren't much help either, tugging him in all direction and trying to peek inside his bag, hands off, no touchy. "Enough! Can you just take me to the headmasters office, please?" he couldn't get pissed off and shift in the first half hour of arriving but Jack, it was so tempting to punt a few of them down the hall. He felt a sharp tug him over and dragged him through the halls as the gnome dropped him off in front of a large door, kicked him in the shin and ran off. Not nice, not nice at all.
The room was dark, very dark, and as uninhabited as the rest of the campus except for the gnomes, maybe the headmaster was in the back, he wondered. "Uh, Hello? I have some forms to drop off-" That was when he saw it, a shadow. Standing there by itself, was it the headmaster, or just a part of it. He didn't get to speak as a portal opened in front of the figure, in its dark shimmering depts lay .... a beach? an oasis, this must be an illusion, a trick. Survival training, maybe it was like a test, to see if he was worthy to attend.
"Extra credit you say? I'll take on the challenge." He told the ominous shadow. He wouldn't back down, he came to experience trials and grow from them, and so all it takes is this first step. And step he did, right into the portal.
