He saw the edge of her flush and allowed himself another smile. Ah, if only she were single...but he knew better then to dare to hope. Such hope would only break his heart, for no one would be such a fool as to let a beauty like her escape.

When he didn't enter the cave behind her, she reappeared at the mouth and frowned slightly at him. Was he mentally slow? Maybe he hadn't fully recovered after all...

He gave her another small smile, watching her.

Yeeeah.... definately mentally slow. She sighed. Was this brain damage presnent before or after the near freezing to death?
"C...c....come... I....in."

Her voice was so pretty. That it was so soft and so rare only made it all the more precious. "With such a delightful invitation, however could I not?" he asked her, smiling warmly as he approached.

Her eyes narrowed at that as she tried to dissect what he could possibly mean. She backed away as he entered, trying to maintain the same distance. It was difficult, though. The cave wasn't very large.
It was, however, neatly set up for a lone soquili to wait out a storm. Wood was piled against one wall, with a fire pit near the mouth of the cave, to let out the smoke. Moss covered one corner, creating a nice, soft bed.

He saw her narrowed eyes and winced as he entered. He would have to make amends. He had been too forward, too obvious, clearly. He would have to apologize. He looked around. Nice for one, cozy for two. But he wasn't the second she wanted to be cozy with. Three wouldn't fit, and he knew who would be put in the cold when her lucky stallion returned. Out in the cold in more ways then one. Once they were both in, and he had stepped carefully not to disturb anything he looked at her. "I'm sorry," he said softly.

She blinked at him, startled by the apology, though she wasn't certain what he could possibly be apologizing for.

"That my forwardness has made you uncomfortable," he elaborated when she didn't respond. "I did not mean to make you feel apprehensive, and I will not challenge your mate. I would never harm some one so close to such a kind heart."

He closed his eyes, drinking in the lovely sound of her voice. A treat, it seemed, made all the more special by rarity. He opened his eyes and drank in the sight of her as well. "Your mate," he said softly. "Whatever stallion was lucky enough to win your heart, oh fair angel of winter."

Then every stallion here was an idiot... unless.... He swore mentally. "You decided you prefer to be alone?" he asked her softly, sadly. For a moment, a precious wonderful moment, hope had soared within him. "You don't want a mate?" It was the only explanation that made sense how so wonderful and lovely a creature could be single.

"W...w...what? N...no.. I...I mean... y...yes.. b...better to be a...alone bu...but....what?" she stammered, flushing darkly. What in the world had brought them onto the topic of mates?

He blinked, very nearly as confused as she was. "Come again?" he asked, softly. He watched her, hope fighting like a flame in humid air.
