He should also get a 90% chance to miss any girl character he attacks. Instant fill out of an all women team.

Fair enough.

That'll balance the game.

Owner of Character: Oblivionic Desecration
Name: Desecrator
Job/ Class/ Expertise: Merc/Monk/chaos
Brief Info about character: A rival archetype, he'd be comparable to a recurring demi-nemesis, like Seymour from FFX. The kind of guy who picks his enemy and keeps trying to take him/her down. He's a true nihilist, neutral chaotic; doesn't have a real goal, but relishes the chance to make change, often destructively. If put into a team, aka the 'hero' side, he's the guy who likes to do high dps vs. big guys(/bosses). A bit maverick-ish.

Also, I'm a die-hard gamer, favoring RPGs. I often rule-lawyer, so I'm quite skilled at learning game mechanics. If you need a 'tester', or even a proof reader, I can contribute in that way.

Side note: C Fox sounds like a Cactuar

Makes me tempted to get one of the RPG makers, if they didn't cost money I don't have much of. I like the sounds of all this, and don't know why I hadn't read it before.

Me personally though, not sure why, but I'd almost be more inclined to make an RPG stringing together a series of different "Chapters" loosely retelling major events in the histories of a number of characters. By it's nature it seems like it's something I'd add a chapter to occasionally, so even if it somehow, inconceivably caught up with one character's entire history, I'd hit a point where I'd get to go work on someone else, and if they were still being actively RP'ed then by the time I did the other chapters...

It'd also have advantages like letting me toss a LOT of characters in as party members by having them wind up partied with whomever they would be closest affiliated with. A Vahn campaign might spend a lot of their game with the Glacier crew and Laz, from what I know of his past.

Problem is that ideally I'd love to make every character the main character/have their own chapters. But it'd mean a lot of jumping around, tons of talking with people about their histories and scripting, and maybe too much time spent solo for an RPG, doing each backstory chapter.

Not to mention I can see the frustration in working Glacier up to level 30 so they can win HoH gloriously, only to find out you've graduated to the Athan chapter- and he's level 5 at the moment.

Pros and cons either way. I'd love to have the tribute type game, but this idea is also interesting, and you'd probably be able to program much more complex/exciting things than I, given my single class of website programming, mostly done off templates.

I have all the RPG Makers...for free. >:}

That's why I want to undertake this task. Not only will it be more learning experience, but I pretty much can put together a game like this with little trouble. We already have an engine, which is basically the Makers. The only thing we need to add are the gameplay mechanics and, as you said, the story. But that's the fun part. I don't mind devoting all that time to scripting and creating this story. And with the collaboration of many of you guys, forming the story won't be so hard, since it requires no programming or anything technical on your part.

I also want the game to be sort of a sandbox, like the old Ultima games. Where, as you said, you can get involved in a variety of people's plots and still don't feel like you missing something. It'll somewhat follow the Mana series way of this, whereas, enemies scale as you do.

My main concern is the character being grossly misrepresented/misinterpreted, much as I know any of that would be unintentional. Don't mind creative licences to match with setting, but there is a degree to which I sometimes get agitated if I look at something that's supposed to be one of my characters and it seems like an entirely different person instead.

...but this is probably just me being picky about characters, I'm sure most are.

I'll probably post some kind of "Kael, in under 2 minutes" later similar to the other character descriptions.

Not sure if using comparisons to FFT is still appropriate given how unlikely a strategy game is.

I understand you completely. But I believe that one thing I am good at doing is not misrepresenting a character. If you can give me a character's profile, from their looks, their personalities, their histories, and samples of how they are roleplayed in various scenarios, I can easily tell how to play them out. Hopefully, my years of roleplaying canon characters could finally be put to the test.

Just rip off Arngrim's story from Valkyrie Profile.

I'm sure Athan probably fits in there pretty well.

Another idea: This can be a game with rpg elements, such as character growth, but why not have it be an action-adventure? Players, especially casual players or people with little time on their hands, love games that are real time and and allow you to play in bursts. They can save their game and play it later, though they will spawn at "key points" when they log back on. This way, it keeps the player from having saved at a moment where they may not be able to come back alive: i.e. saving with 1 HP in the middle of a battle.

The idea is that the player will simply be able to create their own character and develop their skills however they wish, such as weapons, supernatural powers, and abilities while exploring the world of Gaia and meeting with different types of people and stories (aka, our characters if we choose to implement them). Thus, the player will only control one character. You can make a gunslinger, or a fire mage, a street fighter who uses their hands, and all other types of things like that. Of course, it won't have that many options due to the amount of people working on this project, but we'll try to make the experience as if you created your own unique person.

Right now, I'm merely brainstorming as they come.

Taki Morivan

Dangerous Hunter

PostPosted: Sun Feb 20, 2011 1:10 am

Owner of Character: Taki Morivan
Name: Taki Morivan
Job/ Class/ Expertise: Monk-style combat brawler with an additional 6 different elemental moves
Brief Info about character: Vampire, originally half-wolf demon half-drow. Can daywalk cuz of her enchanted beret. Very black and white in how she sees life, and her wardrobe colors reflect this. Very much a tomboy, but with a very voluptuous body (you could have npc guys fawning over her, then get uber-rejected). Usually laid back, but quite the sarcastic b***h if you piss her off.

Basically think Tifa's physique (Taki's also 6'3", mind you), Zell's fighting style (plus the 6 element things), and Auron's personality (and drinking habits). And that's pretty much Taki in a nutshell.

If you need any pre-rendered 3D things - maybe a game intro - send me art of the characters (coloured preferably so I can texture them appropriately) and I'll get them made in a coupla weeks. Then I'd need a storyboard for animation purposes.
