"Attacker, singular," Lian closed her eyes and tried to call back the hazy vision. "Large, dark, scaled... lots of very sharp teeth. Black eyes... Vicious. It happened quickly and it was dark."

He rolled his eyes at the description of the attacker. She must have dreamed it all up. He hadn't ever encountered anything like that in the marsh and the creatures would have alerted him if any such thing was nearby.
"That settles it then." He told her. "You are crazy. I have never seen such a thing in my marsh nor will I ever." He even chuckled to himself a little at the thought of such a monstrosity. "The only monster here is me."

"I am not crazy!" Lian snapped, irritated at being called insane. "And I did not make all this up! It will happen! Just because nothing like that creature has...oh...." she stopped suddenly as the second part of what he said sunk in. Now that he mentioned it... he did resemble the creature she'd seen. Dark at night, with everything moving so quickly... It was possible...

Boi-Tatá was about to just tell the mare to leave when she suddenly stopped mid-sentence. What was that look for? She seemed to show a little fear in her eyes, or perhaps it was simply just a trick of the light. He couldn't quite tell from this angle.
"What is it?" He snapped at her. He didn't like the way that she was looking at him.

"You... um... wouldn't ever hurt anyone, would you?" Lian asked, uncertainly. She had to be mistaken. He had been nothing but helpful so far. Surely he wasn't the monster in her vision.

At Lian's comment, Boi-Tatá grinned his wicked teeth at the mare. Perhaps he hadn't physically hurt anyone so far, but he was quite capable of it. Sure the stallion avoided physical contact if possible, but if this mare wanted a demonstration.... He shook his head, as if trying to rid the thought. It wasn't worth the effort to go beating up this mare. At least not yet.
"Perhaps." He told her, still grinning. "Why do you ask?"

"As you said, you are the only monster in this swamp," she mumbled, taking a step back. Well. What was she supposed to do now? She couldn't very well just leave... but maybe she could talk him out of it?

He just rolled his eyes at the foolish mare. She really was naive wasn't she? If he was going to harm her, he would have already, though she apparently didn't think that.
"You know, if I wanted to harm you I would have already. Now what are you suggesting? Are you saying that I'm the one who attacked or attacks this mare? Because let me tell you, I haven't ever and i doubt I ever will. I might not be the nicest of the bunch but I don't make a habit of picking physical fights with anyone." He told her.

She studied him for a moment before nodding slightly. "I believe you," she decided. "Which means that another creature will come into your swamp. Maybe it will chase the mare here."

Bo sighed a little exhausted by the conversation. Why was it that this mare could not simply go away and leave him alone? It seemed that no matter he asked or said, she continued to stay right where she was. Whatever her reasoning, the stallion was beginning to become fed up with it.
"Let me get this straight." He told the mare. "It's supposed to be a darker mare, and she's being attacked by some sort of monstrous creature that is vaguely like me right by this sink hole....." Boi-Tatá trailed off with his last words. Was that really what she had seen? Could it be? He shook his head as hard as he could. No, he had been abandoned. That was what happened.
"You're visions are only of the future right?" He asked her, obviously not paying as much attention as he could have been.

She blinked. "Well, no. I have visions of the past and present as well," she admitted. "Why?"

He shivered a little, though there was no breeze nor any cold air. What the mare was saying couldn't be true. It just couldn't. She must have just had an odd dream, just a weird coincidence. It couldn't have happened. Couldn't have. He wouldn't think about it. Wouldn't. Couldn't.
"Go!" He barked at the mare. "There is nothing for you here. Leave my swamp!" He was yelling now. What Lian had brought him, he couldn't stomach it and he couldn't stand to look at her. There was no way for him to comprehend that perhaps his father had come back and killed his mother. That perhaps he hadn't been abandoned after all or that he wasn't truly a monster. No, he was still a monster.

Something had happened. The stallion had made some kind of conclusion, Lian was sure of it. And it wasn't in her nature to let one of her visions go unexplained, just as it wasn't in her nature to back down from a challenge.
"What is it?" she demanded, ignoring his raised tone. "What's wrong? Do you... Do you know the mare?"

The stallions eyes flared with madness. Years of pain, of being alone, flared up within him. Hadn't this mare heard what he had said? Why was she not leaving? Why didn't she listen to him?
"Did you not hear me?" He asked her angrily. "I said get OUT!" He screamed it again, far louder this time. "How DARE you bring me this news? She abandoned me, she was NOT killed. I won't believe it!" He turned and cantered off into his cave, hoping that she would leave him and not follow.

Lian gaped after him, stunned by what he had said. Far too late, she realized that her vision could have been of the past, and far more importantly, of someone important to him. A mate? A sister? A mother? There was no way to tell.
Uncertainly, she looked around the swamp again. It looked a bit different from her vision, but that could have been the lighting. Or years of natural growth. And she had just poked and prodded at his wounds, slicing them back open. Nice job, Lian. This was why her uncle shunned the act of conversation, she was certain.
Hesitantly, she followed the stallion into his cave. "Excuse me?" she called, tentatively, unable to let it go when she had clearly hurt him so.
