Skeep. o.o. I'm in a coven, sort of, but sometimes I think I'd rather work on my own. Our coven consists of four of us, and we're sorta still very haphazard, since two of our members' parents don't know and would freak to high hell about their choice of religion...Oddly enough, one of those is our HPS. >> Now if she would just ACT like it...But it's nice to have them to talk to and celebrate the Sabbats with. And it's easier for the other two to hide it, since we don't have to have all the Sabbats at one person's house or anything.
Buuut, on the other side of the coin, I'm an incredibly moody *coughbitchycough* person-very, very easy to annoy. Trying to fix that...But it's sorta hard to be in a "Perfect Love and Perfect Trust" state of mind when I'm glaring at someone over the matches I'm wasting, thinking "Lying piece of..." sweatdrop

Yeah...We're a mess and I usually remind Ky of it...>.>; But I wouldn't give them up for anything. heart

I know exactly what you mean! My coven only has four of us in it as well, one of who's parents are extremely devout catholics. There are some days when we meet up and all I want to do is to be left alone, you know, and just meditate by myself, the last thing I feel like doing is being with other people.
But at the same time I love them all and I love having them around.

That's cool, at least you know about both now and you can choose which one you prefer instead of being stuck with just one or the other way of studying.

I worked as a solitary for a year before I found the coven that I eventually trainded with. I have been leading my own teaching coven since 1996. We generally have around 20 or so adults in our group.

But coven things are just a few times during the month. On other days I do solitary work just for myself as well. It's like having the best of both worlds.

i would really enjoy meeting a group of Wiccans that are in a Coven, and until i moved to Arizona i did have one. It was just the 4 of us expanding our knowledge of the Craft. I found it to be very supportive and very helpful.

But in the subject of Coven, i do reject the fact that one must be initiated by Coven leaders in order to truly be a Wiccan.

I'm just more comfortable being a solitary practitioner, because I never was a real social butterfly.

I can't really say. I've only worked solitary, and I don't really know what it would be like to work in a coven. I personally like being solitary, you have more time to do different rituals and such, and you don't have as much stress as you would in a coven.

So, I guess my answer is still kind of... split.

I enjoy celebrating the sabbats with my coven, but I also enjoy doing solitary work as well. So I'm split as to how to vote in this poll.

Just as a note: Someone commented on some covens not allowing people under the age of 18. For some covens it's a legal matter of not accepting people under 18 without parental approval.

Because some rituals involve being skyclad, or naked, and the fact that Wicca and Paganism is now classified as 'Untraditional Religion/Occult'

I do most of my stuff alone. I wouldn't mind being in a coven, if I could find one. I think it's important to have that kind of support. But, since I can't find one, I'm doing most of my work on my own.

I'm just wondering if people prefer practicing in covens or by themselves. I have a coven here in Ireland, and I can't imagine studying Wicca without them, I rely on them for emotional support, for information, for so much. And yet, I do most of my spellwork alone, we generally only do circles and stuff together during the Sabbats.
But I'm curious about other people's opinions on the matter, do you prefer to study alone or to work in a coven?

I work primarily alone, sometimes with my friend. But we live in the buckle of the bible belt in Kentucky, so we really don't have much of a choice. If I could find a coven I would want to join. smile

I worked with a few people in a "coven" for a little while. They treated me like I was completely ignorant, often we didn't even do anything when we planned. People were not taught on levels adequate to everyone... it was a very poor group.

I guess being a solitary works for me. Sometime, I intend to actually work magic with my boyfriend. We just haven't found anything in particular to do, yet.
