Dakari sat there, dumbfounded and just a little hurt. He was glad Sitara had gotten up to get a new fish, it gave him time to mask his expression. So was that just a joke? Did she just mean they were always going to be good friends so he'd be like a father to her children?
He stared down at his half-eaten fish. He didn't really have much of an appetite anymore, but knew he should finish it or he'd be hungry again later and wish he had finished it now.
What would kits from the two of them look like, Dakari wondered? Definetly purple. Would they have any of his white or Sitara's starry patterns? Would any of his spirals or stripes come to play? He was sure they'd be good-looking babies; between him and Sitara, how could they not be?

The kits they had been talking about still danced around in her imagination. She had a feeling that she and Dakari would have made good parents. She screwed up though, and she wasn't sure how to fix it. Still staring at the water, she thought up and discarded several things to say.
An irritated growl left her as she frowned down at the water. How in the Diety's name was she going to say what she wanted to say. Preferably without makeing more of an a** of herself as she just did. She growled again in frustration.

Dakari lifted his head and looked around at Sitara, ears perked forward curiously. "What's up," he asked. "Don't tell me there's a fish insulting my honor now?" It wasn't like Sitara to growl when there was absolutely no reason to do so. Something had to be bugging her.

Sitara's ears went back at Dakari's voice and she shook her head. "No, no, it's not the fish. I mean, yes. No...no." And suddenly the Deava, who had a wise a** answer for everything, had nothing to say. She also had a huge urge to go and bang her head into a tree for a while.
Sitara let loose another loud growl. She was being an idiot. And this time she couldn't blame it on her Phim genes; she was just plain being an idiot. She stormed back out of the water and flopped next to Dakari. "I'm not hungry."
There, that was the perfect thing to say. It wasn't even on the same subject. Sitara put her head on her paws and closed her eyes. "The fish told me to tell you that I'm just as dumb as they are and that I like you." She said in a rush. "No joke. It wasn't the first time...I'm just dumb. Sorry."

Dakari blinked, just a tiny bit bemused. Okay, maybe a lot bemused. He'd known Sitara for awhile now, and had never seen her act like this! And then she'd gone and admited to liking him. Dakari was starting to think lakes had it out for them or something.
And maybe he was just a coward. He couldn't say he loved her too, not yet. "Like me? Like as a friend or like me as something more....?" Dakari's voice relected some of his confusion. It might have been a silly question to ask, but he just couldn't open up yet without being sure.

Sitara muttered darkly to herself, something along the lines of 'figures he'll make me spell it out'. She couldn't fault him though. If he had been acting like a loon and then said that, she'd probabaly make him spell it out too. That didn't stop her from grumbling or blushing.
"You're already my friend, Dakari." She said softly. "I like you. And I think it would be...nice to have kits like how we were saying. Ones that will pounce their father, and that's you by the way. Other males are rather...blah compared to you." Sitara finally opened her eyes and looked at Dakari with a wary but hopeful expression.
After all, if he said no...she seriously doubted they could go back to their easy going friendship. Her body was rather tense, waiting for his decision, but she stayed where she was this time. She was not going to run and pretend to fish this time.

Dakari felt like his heart was trying to work it's way up his throat and got stuck. When had he gotten so soft. 'No,' he corrected himself. 'I'm only soft for her.'
He hadn't realized he'd been holding his breath until he exhaled. And like that the lump in his throat seemed to have vanished. He dipped his head down and lightly bumped it against Sitara's. He whispered something very quiet, meant for her ears alone.
"I love you too, Sitara. Go figure."

At Dakari's words, Sitara relaxed all over, her heart leapt in joy and she smiled. She moved her head to bump softly into Dakari's, showing him her happiness and her affection for him. Still, she was a Deava, and she couldn't leave well enough alone.
"Go figure? That's what you have to say?" She teased. She was used to how Dakari phrased things by now, so she wasn't mad. In fact, it was one of the the things she liked most. He never said the same old boring things. She used her wing to flip him over again and smirked at him. "You deserve that for making me spell that out and putting me on the spot."
Sitara laughed for the simple way to express her joy.

Dakari put on a mournful face. "Ah, poor me! I fell in love with such an abusive woman!" He was surprised at how easy it was to say now, even though he was having trouble with it just a minute ago.
"Well, as the way of karma goes, I'm sure any kits we have will constantly find ways to topple you," Dakari drawled. The thought of a load of kits using Sitara as a climbing pad made him chuckle and break his "drawling-face", which was somewhere between arrogant and bored. What kind of litter sizes did Daevas have? Dakari knew Sitara had two brothers, just like he had two sisters, so that wasn't a great comparison for him to go by.

Sitara scoffed. "And I fell in love with someone who says 'go figure' after such a nice thing to say. I think we're even there." She liked saying that phrase it made her feel phimtastic, but in a good way.
"If they topple me, the first thing I'm landing on is you. Then you'll be stuck and the kits will lick you to death." Sitara teased. She nudged his side. "Come on, I want to fly and you're coming with me." She certainly wasn't going to leave him right now. There was no way another female was going to be taking him away. She'd sit on him first.

"Fine, fine," Dakari said, rolling his eye but grinning. He stood up and waited for Sitara to get a proper grip on his. "And I'd like to see you try to land on me. On the ground I've got more speed than you with your longer legs." He was more than confident he could dodge a fall. Especially if there was a kit sitting on her face so she couldn't see him....

Sitara snagged Dakari under the ribs and paused. "Considering where you are, I wouldn't suggest challenging me as to whether or not I could sit on you. I think even as fast as you are, you'd have trouble getting loose in time." She retorted, smirking down at him.
The Deava launched the two of them into the air, gaining height before doing a loose barrel roll. "I could always slow you down by dropping kits on you too. Then I can flatten the lot of you with one try."

"Didn't we try something like that once," Dakari asked, blowing at a strand of fur determined to tickled his nose into submission. "I forget what I said, something about comparing your aim to......can't remember. Anyway you jumped up in the air and started throwing those green pinecones at me. As I recall only two of them hit."
Dakari frowned. What had he compared Sitara's aim to. You'd think he'd remember; how else was he supposed to encite a repeat of the excitement if he couldn't remember how he set off his.......mate?

Sitara remembered, but she wasn't going to just give him insults. He could think them up on his own. "Next time I'll make sure to drop one on your head." She assured him. "Maybe it will improve your memory?" She did a couple of loops before doing a small dive.
"Want to go water gliding again?" She asked. It had been the first stunt they had done when they met, and it had quickly become one of her favorite activities.

"Sure," Dakari replied. Maybe not the most poetic of responses, but he said it with enthusiasm.
"And we'll just see about you landing one on my head. You'd have better luck of crashing down on me from the sky than trying to drop something." Dakari wasn't bragging, he was just stating the truth. He loved Sitara, but if you had to pick the more agile of the two (on the ground of course), Dakari always won. His.....mate..was quite graceful herself, but speed was Dakari's specialty.
