Although considered a part of standard Japanese, ahō, or aho, is used often only in Kansai. While it is sometimes written in Kanji as [Some Kanji I'll have to look for and put in later- sorry], pronounced ahō, the final vowel sound is often clipped off and it is usually pronounced aho アホ. Depending on the toned particle used with aho, the word can range in meaning from a playful way to say "no" to a fairly strong expletive. Women, as well as men, use this word, but women need to pay special attention to usage and tone in order to avoid sounding unladylike. Women usually avoid saying aho アホ directly to the person they are criticizing.
