Grace smiled and nodded, agreeing. She was very tired, and felt her eyes drooping closed, weighing a lot more than they should. She was fighting sleep with all her might, and losing. It's funny, losing a fight against something like that. But it happens all the time, and Grace felt herself drifting off, her body warm against Decay's.

He yawned softly. Watching someone fall asleep next to him was making him tired too. Their combined body heat was strangely soothing, and he too soon found himself powerless against the heavy pull of his eyelids.

Outside their little cave, the wind howled and the thunder beat like omnipotent, ceremonial drums. The mysterious song of the wild soothed him like a lullaby. He had happy dreams that day.

It was night again when Grace opened her eyes. Decay was still there, surprisingly. Why did he stay? She didn't even know why he came back, but she felt a pull to him. A spiritual pull, she supposed. Looking at the contours of his face, the calm expression he had as he slept. He looked very peaceful, as they all did when they were sleeping. Nuzzling his cheek, she wondered when he'd fallen asleep.

He awoke slowly to a soft feeling on his nose. There was a small butterfly perched upon it's damp tip, fluttering it's wings as it danced in circles. He watched it silently, his eyes only barely open.

This peaceful observation lasted what felt like hours. He moved as little as possible, quieting his breathing as so not to scare the small winged creature. At long last, though, he felt a furry nudge on his cheek, and the start it gave him cause the little bug to fly away into the cool night air.

He closed his eyes again, his breathing heavy as his lungs caught up with lost time. The smell of wet earth buried itself into his senses, calming his nerves once more.

((I don't see how that has to do with anything, but okay.))

Grace smiled at Decay and said, "Morning," as she nuzzled his cheek again.

"Err," he said slowly. His eyes peeked outside of the small entrance to the hollow. "...Morning?" His single word was a sure reply, but it had the slightest giggle of confusion buried within. "T-to you, too..."

Grace frowned. Obviously he didn't remember anything from last night. Deciding that playing it off like there wasn't anything that happened between them, she smiled at him and started to walk away, kind of hurt that he didn't remember. Beginning her song again, not as lamenting as last night, but not particularly up beat, she started to enter the swamp again, where it was drying up from the rain from the night before.

Decay tilted an eyebrow. "Or evening, if you prefer?" he called after. "Seeing as I don't typically associate the dark of night with morning." He laughed lightly, his mood changed drastically by her mystical presence. He inched over to the entrance of the hollow and stuck his head out, taking in the smells of the night.

Grace smiled and nodded. "I don't usually stay awake during the daylight hours. The only time I ever see the sun is when it's just peeking over the horizon....." she said, her voice trailing off as she reminisced of seeing it, which seemed like such a long time ago.....

Decay tilted his head slightly. He opened his mouth for a moment, about to speak, then closed it again. Was he really ready to cross this bridge? The one connecting a quiet acquaintance and the road to friendship? He thought about this for a moment more, then found that his curiosity was overpowering him once more. Curse that devious fault...

"Why not?" he asked. "The midmorning sun has such a beautiful glow..."

Grace turned to Decay, a distant smile on her face that matched the look in her eyes, looking at him but not seeing him. She was trying to remember the last time she'd actually seen the sun during the day that wasn't when it was rising or setting. Thinking of nothing, she dropped her gaze in despair. "I wouldn't know."

Grace was nocturnal, and never saw the sun in it's complete beauty. She'd always wanted to, but singing the night away, making sure that the lullaby was cheery enough to reassure young kimeti that they were safe under the stars but not too cheery to get them going. Melancholy tones often fell from her lips as she sung, searching for answers of her past, that she did not know..

Decay studied her face in the long quiet. There was something familiar about that look in her eyes. Something that reminded him quite a lot of himself.

A small spark of a though crossed his mind when she spoke. Would it work? Perhaps, perhaps not. No harm trying when he'd already come this far. He took a deep breath, then, "Would you like...to stay up with me, then?" he asked. "It does seem to be getting closer to morning, and considering that we just woke up, perhaps it wouldn't be too hard to keep you up to see the sun past it's rise?" There was an awkward but truthful smile on his face.

Grace thought for a moment before looking into Decay's dark eyes. "I'd like that," she said, walking over to him.

(Short, I know)

Decay rose from the hollow to meet her halfway. "Well," he said, "You can't see a proper sunrise with so many branches overhead." He glanced upward at the thick cover of entangled trees. "Let's find a slightly clearer spot to watch, shall we?"

Grace smiled and nodded. The place where they'd settled was rather wooded and dark...Walking up alongside Decay, she smiled and raised a hoof to the path before them. "You lead the way."
