I crashed into someone who was not paying attention at a serious competition. He almost fell over. we got second. probably would have gotten first if not for that.

Our witner cocnertt was...horrible. I'm embarassed to say i played at it.
First off, the choirs had special ed kids in them. nothing agaisnt special ed, really, but they were brining down the whole group. There were some in there that yes, they were some of the best, but one or two were horrible. Not in tune, only "sang" one or two words per song over and over again, and at the wrong times.
Then, the director couldn't keep a steady, rpacticed tempo. Not a big change. But it was annoying. My groups both were forced to paly songs at nearly 20 bpm slower then we had been practicing them, which messed everyone up. I don't mind slowing down a tempo, but either warn us first or let us practice it at that speed. And then she would speed up and slwo down. we were trying our best to follow her but it was horribly annoying and impossible to follow.
Finally, when the orchestras were up, the 'advanced' orchestra(it had 4 violins, a cello, and a bass) came up. They playued one song alright(both orchestras were earsplittingly horrible might I add) but then their second song...oh dear. The director tried to let them lead themselves, which was unpracticed, and right away she came back and STOPPED THEM and made them restart. tehn they fell apart again and she stopped them AGAIN and made them start HALFWAY THROUGH THE SONG! The head dm, who was sitting two seats in front of me, just shook his head and grumbled "this is ridiculous".
It was. Teh director is an idiot. She was director for all, and so that tells you one thing. But you don't stop in the middle of a concert. Thats jsut not right. and embarassing.

I've had a couple cocnert band music incidents.
-We were at a conert festival and for some reason there was a huge draftfrom the roof, right above the clarients. We had to tilt our stands up so it didn't make our music fly away, but even when we couldn't lift it anymore and be able to see our music, it was still flying off. That caused a lot of us to get binders and sheet protectors.
-At the christmas cocnert that same year, before the draft incident, I was at the end of the front row with the first clarinets. Well, there was one part where the clarents had a part that was just us, and we kept forgetting to breath before and the first ntoe came out wimpily. So, to emphasize, our director took a deep breath and blew. he leaned over my stand, of course. And my music went flying. I was out for the rest of the song trying to rescue my music. The director was trying not to laugh and whispered an apology to me. It was embarassing to scramble to fix it.
-My freshman year at graduation, i was really windy but we had the ceremony outside in the stadium. Which was horrible for us. not only wre we playign the dreaded pomp and circumtance, but we had to keep it up on our stands, and our stands up. Me and my stnand partner resorted to each keeping a foot on one leg of the stand, and lots of tape. Then my chair was sitting in a soft part of the ground. even though was on the tip of the seat, it was still sinking backward, which made posture difficult.

Well one of the worst things that has happened was that during our marching band performance to get rated, there was a part we had to dance in and well one of the members, came running up to high five another member in front of me. While he was running back he tripped right before we had to stop dancing and move to a different possion on the field. Thing is he got up in time, while carrying a saxophone, and marched at the perfect time, and the people thought it was probably done on purpose. Which was good in our case.

Well, my hat fell over my head and my sax wouldn't re-hook after I had to pick it up, (I had to put it down for part of the performance) and so I had to finish the rest of the show with my eyes covered and holding my saxophone and TRYING to make it seem like I was playing.
I cried after the show...

One time when we were marching in a parade, and one of our drum majors accidentally bumped into one of our flags, who hit him with her flag pole. There was also an incident when one of our trumpet players mouth piece somehow fell off while he was high stepping.

Well, this unfortunate incident happened to me early during our show opener at the Jo Albi Stadium competition.
Our opener is "Any Way You Want It" by Journey, and as such, it's at a 148 bpm. Not too bad, right? Well me, being hyped-up for the competition, in bringing my Trumpet down from a horns-up to attention, flung my Bach 3C mouthpiece AAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL the way into the bleachers.

Oh god this year during a marching band competition I tripped over a clarinet's foot and fell and twisted my ankle and broke my saxophone but I don't back as fast as I could and and was back to marching. I didn't even remember falling and I didn't feel the pain until I was off the field.

at our last fall comp this year, it was the worst weather i've ever seen...at a band review anyways. first, there was jazz, and it was pouring, so the amp got wet, so you couldn't hear either the guitar or the bass (i forgot which) then for parade, it stopped raining, but right before we did our warmup pass, the wind came. it was, no lie, the strongest wind i've ever been in. we once had a practice where we had to go down to the gym because it was so windy that the tubas couldn't stand up straight, but this band review beat that. if any of you are in guard and have tried to spin in the wind, you know when that random gust of wind comes and takes your toss at least 5 feet in a direction you didn't want it to? we had a 3 minute gust. THEN at awards it started pouring again and i felt so bad for my friend who was accepting for guard. our uniform is a skirt and vest with a leotard that has fake sleeves (they're sheer and poofy) then it started thundering and lightninging and we were at the top of metal bleachers. we couldn't even hear any of the scores or places. luckily most of us made it back on the bus before the hail came...

Probably the worst thing that has happened to me was after every single competition I went to for marching band I pulled the muscle in my leg (it was the same leg). But I had someone else who was in my clarinet section who, while we were in the middle of the marching performance, tripped and fell straight backwards and we have white uniforms...the back of it was green and brown from mud and grass.

I remember at last year's state championships for marching band I got reeeeaaaally horrible cramps right in the middle of our performance. stressed I stuck it out until the end but I collapsed after we were back by the buses.
Also last year I remember this one girl in guard practically broke her ankle in the middle of a performance and had to perform on it the rest of the show. I could see tears running down the side of her face by the time our show had finished. sweatdrop
