Abdiel blinked in surprise as the Jager started to drop back gracefully, not letting his chest swell at the praise. The Gun Sniper sprinted, seeing the curve ahead, Kyrea's even, warning tones sending a pang through his guts. Instantly, his eyes flicked towards the scanners, and though he felt some measure of relief at the approach of Kyrea's withdrawal from the 'game', this new obstacle dampened his alacrity.
So, the Lance Stag and Command Wolf were tied up further back in the pass. He could make it. He could do this. Abdiel leaned forward in spite of the heavy G forces trying to force him back into the padding of the pilot's seat, concentrating. He could do this...
The Gun Sniper was at the limits of its speed-- Abdiel could feel it, could hear it, in the Zoid. "Just a little more, buddy," Abdiel told it sympathetically, and jumped when he was answered with a low, fatigued tinny growl. That's it.
Finally managing to get some idea of his Gun Sniper's cornering abilities, he compensated as he came up to the bend. There was no room for mistakes. At his speed, he could seriously damage the poor Zoid under his novice fingertips. As though unwary of the tenseness of his situation, he restored the com link to his fellow competitors.
"Hey, stop flirting back there! It's kind of boring to win this easily!" Abdiel announced teasingly to Xack and Zyali, his grin playful, though one with a sharper eye could see his competitive nature showing through.

{The Lance Stag... Has a lance at the front.
Imagining the command wolf kicking him without damaging itself from the metal-zi lance is weird, but quite possible with good timing. x3}
"How much damage did you want to give?" Xack teased the pilot of the Command Wolf, "My zoid isn't called a 'Lance' Stag for nothing!" It was true that the Command Wolf's actions was too fast for a halt, and Lance's armor now has a small dent at the front, but other then that, Xack was feeling alright.
Seeing that he is now at the back of the race, Xack increased Lance's speed to almost the max and prayed for his plan to work. Using the huge lance at the front as a pole, the Lance Stag landed heavily at the front of the Command Wolf, sending dirt into the air. Without any time to lose, Lance sped off, using the lance to break his fall.
It was too difficult to try and pass the Gun Sniper by the 'pole vaulting' trick, as there was a limit to how far the jump could take him. However, he is now one step closer to the finishing line and the lead of the race. With a laugh, Xack relaxed a bit and replied over the com-link, "No matter who the winner is, I've learnt a lot of new things. To me, that's the best prize."
With a smile, he thanked Lance silently.
{By the way, the pole-vaulting trick can be done. I've done quite some research on Lance before I posted this. Go here, and scroll down to the info on 'Lancetag', as they named Lance. ^^ http://zoids-genesis.jump-ent.com/?j=zoidbios/zoidbios }

Ooc: ....
Zy chuckled at Abdiel's comment, smirking as he edged closer to the GunSniper. "Aww, I'm not flirting babe. You don't have to be jealous. Besides, I'd rather flirt with you anyday." The Command Wolf snapped playfully at the GunSniper's tail, careful to avoid the boosters in back just in case the pilot decided to give him a face full of flame.
Frowning slightly at the move the Lance Stag made, as well as the comments aimed towards him, Zyali shrugged lazily. "Actually, it wasn't damage I wanted to give. I thought that might have tipped you off balance, since it's obviously your legs that are the weakness." Zy stated calmly, ignoring the chuckling. "You seem to think that you can just get away with whatever you want to get away with. Well you know what? You can't. I'm not going to let you. If I'm going down, YOU'RE GOING DOWN WITH ME." Taking a long leap, the Command Wolf leaped onto the back half of the Stag, using all it's weight to throw the Stag to the ground, metal paws pressing the Stag's body into the dust.
"Sniper, you better take that as an invitation to win, because if you don't I'm going to beat you over the head with this Stag's lance." Zy chuckled, making sure to keep his Wolf's metal body over the other Zoid's. He might be thrown off, but it would take some effort, and would take a bit of time. Time that would most likely ensure the GunSniper's victory. Sometimes sacrifices were necissary for the greater good.

{Hm... ^^;}
The Lance Stag was thrown off guard, and Xack replied over the com-link, a hint of irritation in his voice, "I know when I'm not liked, and this is one of those times... Anyway, I know my legs are my weakness, but haven't you heard of the phrase 'Once bitten, twice shy'? Looks like my happy first experience had just turned into a foul one..."
Lance pawed at the ground, his lower half of the body almost touching the ground. He could not get away, and was crying out loudly. Xack shook his head, his heart had been broken at the cries of his zoid, "Stop struggling, it's no use anymore. That pilot's determined to stop us." Almost at once, Lance's cries subsided and his struggling stopped. His head was hung low in shame.
Linking to Abdiel, Xack managed a smile, "Congrats, it's quite obvious who the winner is... And I've enjoyed my first race too." A soft click made the screen blank again, and he waited for the Command Wolf to let go of Lance. Both of them need a good, long rest...

Jager had positioned himself well out of the race, perched atop a cliff where both sides of the bend could be viewed easily. The Gun Sniper was nearly there, but the other two?..
"They couldn't still be back there.." Kyrea nearly growled as her Jager sweeped his head back towards the beginning of the canyon entrance, searching for the pair. Once spotted in their trivial battle, the pilot slammed her fist upon the com-link button, opening it with more anger than she had initially intended.
"So, your methods of piloting your zoids is to forget about the primary goal and go after each other? This may have been a friendly race, but you just gave your victory away. You gave it away. You failed your zoids, and if you keep doing such, your bond will never grow." Kyrea's sharply pointed words were no friendlier than daggers. Apparently, the niceness she showed earlier was a facade. It would be some time before they figured out who she really was.
The Zero Jager Mirage's tail swung low, a deep displeased rumbling echoing his pilot's words into the canyon below. He raked his claws across the edge of the cliff in threatening warning before Ky turned him away, disappearing from immediate view.

Ooc: ^^()
Zy's eyes widened slightly in surprise, another frown, this time a rather confused, hurt one, flashing across his face, shoulders slumping. "Who said I didn't like you? Just because I wanted to keep you from winning? You shouldn't be so quick to judge." he chuckled softly, no hint of any dislike in his voice. "I just got tired of you passing me so many times, and I had to take you down for good. "
The Command Wolf released the Lance Stag at that point, backing up so he could watch the other Zoid's recovery at a distance. Zyali sat back against the seat, watching, arms folded across his chest in a relaxed position. "I'm sorry I 'turned your first experience into a sour one.' Honestly, that wasn't what I was trying to do. But can I ask you something?" Looking genuinely curious, the pilot tilted his head, pondering. "Why did you just give up? Why didn't you keep fighting? You could have thrown me. But you just... let me do it. Just sorta gave up." Sighing, he let it drop, shrugging with a smile. "Sometimes you have to keep going even if it looks rough ahead."
The Command Wolf howled, stamping it's front paw into the dust. Zy's grin had returned, the competitive spirit that had been so apparent a few moments ago disappaiting into his cheerful self. Giving a thumbs up to the other pilots over the com-link, he winked, laughing. "Thanks for the race you guys. The adventure was a thrill, despite the fact that I was... almost... always... in last place..." Letting out another sheepish chuckle, Zy sighed, closing his eyes in relaxation.

KaiRosewolf Jager had positioned himself well out of the race, perched atop a cliff where both sides of the bend could be viewed easily. The Gun Sniper was nearly there, but the other two?..
"They couldn't still be back there.." Kyrea nearly growled as her Jager sweeped his head back towards the beginning of the canyon entrance, searching for the pair. The Zero Jager Mirage's tail swung low, a deep displeased rumbling echoing his pilot's words into the canyon below. He raked his claws across the edge of the cliff in threatening warning before Ky turned him away, disappearing from immediate view. Again, Zy was startled for a moment, this time by the 'senior pilot's' words. However, despite his calmness when talking to Xack, the Wolf pilot gave her none of it, fighting her fierce words with his own.
"Hey, why don't you just back off?! Since when do you know what I'm thinking?! I wasn't fighting! I didn't even hurt him! And since when do you get to say if I let down my Zoid or not?! What gives you the RIGHT to tell me I'll never grow a bond with my Zoid?! I'm tired of you and your cocky attitude! I'm not on your team, I'll never BE on your team, because obviously I'm not good enough for you!! So if you have no control over me, BACK OFF AND STOP PATRONIZING ME!"
Snarling, Zyali glared at the screen before releasing a frustrated breath, his eyes cast to the side. When he had calmed down, he spoke again, this time with a distinct frost to his voice. "Don't tell me what my methods are. Oh, and by the way, Xack didn't do anything. Don't blame him for what I did. It was MY fault, not his." With a push of a button, he closed the link, the cockpit opening with a hiss and the black-haired pilot stepping out onto his Zoid's muzzle, greeting the warm dry air.

Kyrea grinned, leaning over the control panel of the Jager, enjoying the sound of his voice with a sinister chuckle that spread darkly through her own cockpit. "I never said I knew what you were thinking, but I must admit.. your erupting emotions are a joy to play with." There was a pleasant sigh given, and a shake of her head as she switched the visual off. "I have the right to say whatever I wish. Your Command Wolf will be strong... someday. When that is, depends on when you figure out how to control yourself."
"I generally don't care what your methods are, as long as you accomplish the task given to you. The task, I might add, that you participated in upon your own free will. The fact is, you lost. That is all I see. Whether you learn from this, or not, is your own choice." She shrugged lazily, allowing Jager to turn around upon and face them again at his own desire rather than her own. "I was the judge of this contest, and to be honest, I didn't care who reached the finish line. What mattered was how you got there. Work on your control, and perhaps I will listen to your undue rage next time." She failed to respond to the majority of his rant. Besides, if she was truely as cocky as she allowed them to see, she wouldn't have pulled back right before the finish line.

Ooc: *bounces around like a loon* ^^
Zy stood out on th edge of the Command Wolf's nose all through the time when Ky was talking, lazily tilting his head towards the sun and letting the rays warm his black hair. He was obviously ignoring what the Jager's pilot had to say, for although he could hear what she was saying quite well, he said nothing back, nor even gave the indication he heard what she had said. But he had. He was listening, but wasn't caring much, finding himself too engrossed in things more interesting. He knew what he had been doing, and if she didn't, well forget her.
"You say you were a judge in the race. Well, you must have appointed yourself judge. It was, in the beginning, my race, I issued this challange, and I never said you could be the judge." Taking a deep breath of clear air, Zy smiled to himself, talking quietly so the comlink probably couldn't pick up his voice. He was enjoying himself completely, after releasing his annoyance at the senior pilot, and found that he was happy. Sheilding his eyes with his arm, he looked over at the other Zoids, grinning at them.
"Sometimes the big picture is much more important then you yourself winning. Sacrifices for your team is important. If you only care about yourself, your team just can't win." He murmured, grinning, still talking to the girl who he doubted could hear him. "And, truth be told, I found your words rather funny. I wish you hadn't said them, but they were hillarious none the less. 'You failed your Zoids, your bond will never grow.' Ha." Laughing to himself, he shook his head, waving to the other two pilots while he talked to himself. "What a loon. Winning doesn't mean everything."

It was indeed somewhat difficult to hear him, and she only had a short reply. "You're right, pilot. Winning doesn't always matter, unless your life is on the line. Or the life of your team." Zy was ignorant to Kyrea. He was the young pilot with ambitions of tournaments and zoid battling, and yet he went through nothing nor did he understand those things of what Ky knew and saw daily. His ignorance and distractability bothered her, and reminded her only of those she was sent to destroy on the Imperial forces.
"You failed at your own game, kid." Her voice, now, was grave and deathly serious. He found humor in a lesson that even newbie pilots should be able to understand. Even little kids running around their mother's knees understood the importance of teaching their zoid how to be held in battle and competition.
Com-link switched itself off, a new voice coming over it. The voice was loud, booming, but it was edged with a taint of worry. "First Lieutenant Kyrea Sakashi, report in. News has developed regarding the Imperial operation on the southern border."
A sudden change overcame her. The niceness she had displayed, whether Zy had seen it as that or not, evaporated quickly and a crimson glint developed in her eyes that spoke of nothing but business, of a hunt for lives that would soon leave this world. "Come, Jager. Let us return to base. The real fun is about to begin."
(( Although it isn't quite complete, the continuation of Ky's part in this is in her index// ))

((o_o;; ))
Abdiel blinked as Xack opened up a link to him, seeing the tension in his face even though the other pilot was being a sport about all of it. He had, without even realizing it, won the race. The silverhaired boy hurriedly turned off the boosters, bringing the Gun Sniper around to trot to a halt. His victory was hollow in spite of the fact that he seemed to have proven himself at something. This wasn't how it was supposed to be.
There was a heaviness in Abdiel's chest as he picked up the exchange between Zyali and Kyrea, not sure whom he was supposed to agree with. A frown pulled at lips, and the Gun Sniper stood silent and humbled, half-crouching in fatigue from the race. As soon as Kyrea left them to go off on one of her untelevised and much more important battles, Abdiel ran his fingers through his hair, resting back in his seat with a sigh. That Jager's pilot... she was an interesting person, all right. "And she helped us, didn't she?" he murmured to the empty space of the cockpit, receiving no answering croon from the Gun Sniper.
Still recovering from the stress of the race, which before now he had been wholly unaware of, he looked down the narrow canyon to where the rough walls curved away around that last bend. Beyond that, the shamed Command Wolf and Lance Stag lay. Did he really want to deal with them right now?
Rousing, forcing himself to sit up, he stroked the controls soothingly, bringing the Gun Sniper back to its feet. No matter how tired he felt, his Zoid had to be seen to first. He was certain that it had sustained some sort of damage, at the very least some wear-and-tear. "Let's head back," Abdiel purred to the machine, and the Gun Sniper growled wearily as it stalked back down the canyon to head back the way it had come.
"Hey, are you two all right?" he asked as he came around the bend, his eyes falling on the Lance Stag and Command Wolf, opening only an audio link. Zyali, as he could see, wasn't even in his Zoid anymore. "You guys didn't get very badly damaged, did you?" Abdiel pressed when he saw parts of the Lance Stag's armor.

Zy ignored Kyrea, sighing heavily. He just couldn't win with her. If she was bent on making it sound like he failed, well, she'd win. He couldn't say he had won in the literal sense. He had had fun, and might have earned some new friends. This was just a playful race, and they played, learned how to manage their Zoids a bit, and it was worth it. And the thing was, they weren't hurt.
"It would be different if this was a life or death situation. But it wasn't. So I wanted to have fun." Zy murmured with a smile as he watched the Jager run off, watching the Zoid for a moment before turning to look up at the approaching GunSniper. He could hear the silver-haired pilot's voice over the link, and jumped back into the cockpit to talk with the two again, leaving the cockpit open. "Heh, I'm fine. Wolf's a bit scuffed, but I don't think anything too serious." Zy scratched the back of his head, wincing, "Uh... hope I didn't hurt your Lance Stag there... uh... hey, what's your guys names anyway?"

The Gun Sniper's pilot sighed, seeing that Zyali was unhurt and his Command Wolf wasn't totalled or anything catastrophic like that. Abdiel was really more concerned about the Lance Stag, anyway. The look on Xack's face...
"I'm Abdiel. I think that we've met," the silverhaired boy answered Zy's question dryly as the Gun Sniper came up alongside them, its head inclined towards the grounded Zoids. "My Gun Sniper's a little small, but if either of you need help, we're here," he offered politely.

Xack opened the cockpit of his zoid, and smiled at the other pilots through the screen, "No worries. I'm sure I can repair and smoothen out Lance's armor, give or take a few days... No real damage to the machinary inside either."
Lance nodded, appearing to agree with his pilot. Xack winced, and then gave a light laugh, "Although I think I might have worn myself out back there." He thought for a while, and answered, "Xack, call me Xack. My whole name's too corney if you ask me... So Xack."
"I need to get Lance here some rest. By the way, tell me more about these 'teams'. I'm new to piloting, so please bear with me." A soft smile played on his lips as he was lost in his thoughts. That Jagar pilot had helped him gain more control over Lance, and pointed out his weakness. she had helped, but Xack disliked her cockiness.

Abdiel nodded to Xack, a little relieved to hear it. It would've been unfortunate if his Lance Stag had been badly damaged in what was supposed to be (and at this, he glanced at Zy) a friendly race. The Gun Sniper shifted its weight to the other foot, alerting Abdiel to the Zoid's impatience to be back to the base for some rest. At least, that's what he construed it to be. There was a fine line between living and nonliving, and the silverhaired boy wasn't entirely sure in which part the Zoids were.
"It's nice to meet you, Xack," Abdiel answered cheerfully, guiding the Gun Sniper a few steps beyond them. The geek in him was pleased by Xack's next question, in spite of his anxiousness to get out of this canyon. "Aahh, you must be new, if you don't know about teams! But, let's talk about it while we're heading back. I know that I'm not the only one that needs some rest," he grinned.
"Right?"
