It sends a negative image - that all we are are objects. Well it's the way the music industry has been for sometime as far as rap goes anyway. [Rap isn't the only culprit, though. As far as I know, rap became popular in the 80's. But before then, some rock-n-roll artists were just the same. "Sex, drugs & rock-n-roll," anyone?] But rock never never shows the sex, drugs, or whatever. Rap in the 90's began actually showing that crap and hasn't changed it ever since. (This is also the reason why I don't listen to either rap or rock.) oh really rock doesnt show it? i have seen a few rock videos from the 80's and they did indeed show women at least, no they did not show drug comsumption, but i dont recall any rap videos doing that either. I remember the video for that song " shes my cherry pie" or something like that, or the song where the guy has his own daughter dancing on the hood of some car, Rock is no better, but it seems because Rap is so popular it is used as a scapegoat while some of the more racy Rock videos fly under the radar. When the game changed for the worst. Rappers just wanted the money and fame, it wasn't about gettin a message out just about how much bread you got.

Personally, I think it is degrading to women. As women, we have come so far to get respect and I think it's unfortunate that they would choose to display themselves in that way.

wow im so late but what they choose to do is their own got damn life and its not degrading unless you decide to wear somethin slutty and i dont care if they call a girl out their name as long as their not directing it to me you have to see it like that. you decide to do somethin degrading then you go get called out your name.

i think the term is degrating, but like so many others said, its the woman's choice to shake what her momma gave her on the videos. however, i hate the lyrics and how hip hop/rap is today. in order for me to listen to it, i have to tune out the words and listen to the sound of the voice and the beat. i think that hip hop has gone downhill just to sell some records.

Ehh.. this subject.. I dunno.
On a plane ride to Arizona, this man gave me this book, "Confessions of a Video Vixen". It was good actually, but it also talked about how the rappers would treat the girls and what they had to do to get that main dancin spot.
I personally like videos that have hip-hop dance moves, like Chris Brown and Missy Elliot's videos. I hate how I watch MTV Jams and there will be a song about cars and rims and out of nowhere, a girl will be on top of the car in some daisy dukes.
But then other videos like Snoops, Drop It Like Its Hot make me wanna learn to move my butt like that one chick did. Lol.
But when you think about "video hos" or whatever you want to call them, why are they really hos? Is it because they are paid to dance in cutt offs and a tube top? Can't you do that and not be classified as a ho? is it cause they have a cute face, they already have that stereotype? Because they can pop their a** in a certain way, "oh shes a freak!"
Eh... I dont know. I think because of the way media potrays image, it has developed music videos with the use of "video hos"...
By the way, when you look at.. TRL for instance, mostly pop and Hip hop songs are on the countdown. Not rock... infact.. there is no channel for just alternative/rock/punk music. Maybe that is why you haven't seen any such videos, Lupin?
Oh.. as for degrading. How so? Should women be ashamed of their bodies? I think not. They can walk away from that anytime they want.
So.. Video ho.. well. If they are sleeping around from artist to artist, or doing favors, then yes... But dancing for a profession. I think not. It's unfair to throw all video dancers into that group...
And wow.. I'm watching the My Hips Don't Lie - Shakira... if I could move my hips like that...

Oh yes. You also have to think about the song lyrics.
If someone is singing about "I hate everything about you." Why would they randomlly have some girl shaking her butt? It would be out of place.
Then also think about the instruments used in Rock videos.. not that easy to shake your hips to. But even when you watch Rock videos, there is the factor of a pretty face... one step to classification as a video ho..
Now Shut Up - Simple Plan is on.. I would find it hard to incorporate headbanging and jumping with booty shakin.. doesn't fit..
Shame rap is portrayed in that mean...
