Dear Journal,
I’ve decided to name the little tiger cub Bai Hu. Master Ziye laughed at me for giving an orange tiger such a name, but I pray the name will bring the creature luck after having been so luckless before. The name of the guardian of the East was perfect I thought and hopefully Bai will grow up to become a wise of tiger. Right now though, he’s really just full of mischief.
It’s been a week since I rescued him and he has healed nicely. After a day he was up and running, harassing the geese I keep penned in the back garden. Other than being too skinny for his own good, Bai is the perfect cub. I’ve thought about releasing him back into the wild, but Master Ziye counseled against it. Bai is only a baby after all and while I hate keeping a wild creature from nature…I understand what Master said.
For now, I’ll keep watch over him. Surprisingly, Monk Ling, knew a little something about tiger care. His knowledge coupled with the books from the library has lead me to believe that I’ll be able to raise him in a healthy manner. I’ve already started to mix the proper formula for him. Bai still has all his baby teeth after all and is still too small to be able to eat solids.
I pray to the Ancestors that he’ll grow up happy and healthy. Perhaps on day he’ll be able to return to the wilds of his true home. The thought saddens me, but it would be the best for Bai Hu. As would it be for all the animals from that horrible market. I hoped most of them managed to escape.

P.S. I told Master Ziye about the market and he assured me he’d take care of it. I’m very pleased.

Well, today was an interesting day. I met this crazy boy in the woods. And he was punching a tree! Can you believe it? At first I thought he was angry cause his head was one fire, but that was just the color of his hair. At least now I know what they say about redheads to be true! They do have fiery tempers.
I'm not sure what to make of this new boy, Sakngea. He talks so strangely and is very crass. Of course he's from a small fishing village but that's beside the point. The point is, I didn't think I'd be able to put up with him and his grating speech. I was wrong though! He's actually a very smart person. And manly. I mustn't forget to mention manly. Did I also say that Sakn is tall? Yes, he tall. Very, very tall. I'm envious of him Journal. Why can't I be tall and manly like Sakn?
I think I'll be able to fix the manly part though. After fighting with Sakn and throwing a bag of tea at him (he deserved it for calling me scrawny!) we finally settled down and talked. And guess what? I managed to convince him to train me! Can you believe it? I'm so happy! After that botched up training session with Bataar, I was sure I was a failure. There's hope yet it seems.
I'm not sure what will happen in the future, but I'm sure Sakn will be a very good teacher. I was to be strong and tall like him someday. I think I'll pray twice as long tonight for the gods to grant my wish and--
Hang on Journal. Master just rung the dinner bell
Later in the evening
Okay, I'm back and with a slightly ill stomach. Ping was the one who cooked dinner tonight. It was...interesting...okay it was horrible. How anyone could braze trout in such a manner is beyond me. I'm glad that I'm cooking tomorrow night. I'm going to go to the market and get ingredients for miso and some red bean dumplings. I'm sure Master Ziye will be pleased.
I'm off to bath and pray before bed Journal. We will talk again tomorrow.-Xiu

Dear Journal,
It seems that I'm finally home after two very strange days. Master Ziye sent me to scrubbing the halls as punishment for not contacting him. I know he was very worried though so I did not mind cleaning too much. But that's beside the point and not as strange as what Sakn and I did.
I didn't tell you about that did I, Journal? Well, let me just say that it was terrifying to say the least. If Sakn hadn't been there with me, I don't know what I'd have done. I was surprised to find such a powerful spiriting hiding in a very public shrine. My favorite one in fact. Perhaps that it why I was so shaken. That, and the fact that it rendered me unconscious.
The battle was strenuous and if I hadn't had Sakn's power to pull from...I don't know what would have happened. It is strange really...for the first time in my life, there is someone outside of the temple who actually...cares for me. As a friend of course, but after the incident with my brothers, I was sure that there was something the matte with me. Then Sakngea came along and well...but I'm digressing again.
I haven't even mentioned the most embarrassing part! Sakn carried me all the way to his home and took care of me. Can you believe that? I was so shocked and yet...touched that he would do such a thing. I guess that means we are friends right? I suppose it does, since I still like Sakn very much even after meeting his family. What a strange bunch. I like them anyways though. It's a real family. Would I have had a family like that if I hadn't been born so weird?
And then...well. Something happened Journal. Something that I'm not sure I want to believe even myself. Sakn and I talked. And not just talked, but TALKED. It was so strange and new that I'm stilling remember it. It's not really important what was said, it was just that we both said it. I've realized something about Sakn as well. I like him. And not just the regular kind of like either. I'm not sure when it happened, but it just did. It started out as a nervous feeling in my stomach and then bloomed into something else entirely.
I like Sakn. A lot.
I just hope I don't screw things up. I'm meeting him tomorrow to practice more sparring. I don't think he'll notice anything different. Will he notice I'm weird? I hope not. I couldn't bear to lose him.

P.S. On a completely unrelated note, I haven't seen Bai Hu since the incident at the temple. I know he has a tendency to run off sometimes, but I'm starting to get worried. I hope he pops up soon and isn't causing too much havoc.

Dear Journal,
I'VE FINALLY DONE IT. I've done it, I've done it, I've done. And I can't believe I did it either. This has to be the best day of my entire life. Well, maybe my second best day. My first was actually meeting Sakn, though I didn't know it then. But yes. This is definitely my second best day. And do you want to know why journal? I BEAT SAKN. Yes. That's right. I'll write it again simply because. I. Beat. Him. It was perfectly fair let me tell you. Okay, well maybe not entirely fair.
Sakn was already poking fun at me the minute I showed up. Sure I was a little late because of Master, but he just had to make fun of me. I'm used to it of course. It let's me know that Sakn is still my friend. He only does that will people he likes. Anyways. There I was at the sparring circle. I was sure I was going to get beat into the dust as usual. Only it wasn't like that this time, was it journal?
I fought so hard. I remembered everything that Sakn had taught me before and but the knowledge to use. It's just like studying books really...only more physical. While doing all this I just ran at him. Of course I was half out of my mind with anger, (I really must work on that) but it worked. The only really unfair part when was I kick him. Between the legs. Sakn went down like a rock of course, crying and such. I didn't blame him. I KNOW what that feels like and it's most unpleasant. I still laughed though, mostly because I'd one...but also because it was nice to see Sakn in the dirt for once.
He didn't take it to gracefully though, but he did admit defeat. He even praised me. I got a funny feeling when he ruffled my hair. It wasn't a happy feeling either. It kind of made me squirmy. I don't know why. I hope it doesn't happen again. I just couldn't bear it if he found out. He didn't seem to suspect anything, but you never know. I hope he remains as dense as usually. I can't lose him as my friend. That's most important to me.

P.S. Still no sign of Bai Hu. It's been more than a week. He's done this before of course and I let him. I still can't help but worry. Should I start looking for him?

Sakn insists Xiu hang with him, and on the way in from a boat trip, the redhead insists on knowing what is wrong with his friend. Xiu in turn gets flustered and emotions are revealed.
