I finished the second book and now i'm on the third. It really is a good trilogy, I haven't heard or seen Lyra's Oxford anywhere.

Would you believe that when I was 13 I read the first book a whopping 40 times during summer camp?

sweatdrop There's no technology for miles and there's a lot of free time between hauling hay, riding horses, clearing trails and cleaning up manure. But I only got a package once in my five week stay (Stuffed with books at my request) and I foolishly brought only 5 different books to read.

Needless to say, I scrutinized the text for every morsel of entertainment. No metaphorical stone went unturned... neither did any actual metaphors, either.

I've heard about these. I want to read them. I also heard there making a movie with Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter.

I have also heard that, although I have no idea when the movie was supposed to be produced/ready for theaters.

I thought it was an excellent series. I couldn't buy them fast enough, so I ended up borrowing them all from a library. I was really upset when it came time to return them. I'm trying to recollect them, and I've already bought the first. I saw "Lyra's Oxford", but I thought it was some extra thing that wasn't really worth anything. Should I rethink that? Was it good? As for the ending, I actually stopped myself from finishing for one night just so I could remain hopeful that Lyra and Will found a way to stay together for a little longer. Which they obviously didn't.

I saw the preview!!!! The movie's going to be produced by the same company who produced The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Here's a link to the Flixster page. It doesn't give much info, but it does have some pictures, and a couple clips.

I thought they were a great trilogy. I'm looking forward to seeing them as movies. There's also reports of another book coming out called "The Book of Dust"? What's the latest on that?

Amazing books. Absolutely amazing!
I have read them all number of times and each time is better than the last.
Lyra's Oxford wasn't as good as the other 3 but still worth the read in my opinion.
I hope the film is as good as the books!!!! I can't wait for it to come out December here we come haha!
I hope the 4th books comes out soon and is as good as the others, it would be a shame if it wasn't but i doubt that will happen.

Awwwww yeah i cried like a baby at the end of the 3rd one it was so sad. crying

I'm not one for the whole christian view on things so I probably missed out on a lot of the adam and eve connections he made. I personaly like the first book the best, after that if you ask me it totaly went down hill. Then again, I am hard to please when it comes to trillagies. Although the ending of the third book I thaught was cute! I was hopeing for them both to switch demons! Think about it! that way they could be close together forever and have normal life spans! Either that or both of them live in a world not their own so they would live the same time and happily together, I was waiting for some loophole or another to appear!.... Oh well, guess not all novles have a fairy tale ending.

I've been hearing that. I've been disappointed lately in a lot of the movies made from "children's" books.

I liked these books, because they were always interesting. But I was really upset about the ending of the final book. I thought it was sort of ridiculous, since I really hate books where that happens.
Spoiler Alert I think
Its sort of like there was no happy ending.

I like Subtle Knife because Will is my favourite character. I appreciated all of the issues raised in the books, like the church having too much power and other species being as intelligent as humans. The ending of the trilogy made me cry.

These are some of my favorite books. Only last summer did I get to read the Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass, but they were good. The Golden Compass I have read countless times (I was probably like in the 5th grade my first time). While I was reading them I didn't recognize the religion stuff as anything but entertainment.

The movie was such a disappointment....but really, most books made to movies are not near as good as the book anyways.
