Reeshie looked at the address on the paper and then double-checked the house number. She hated getting things wrong; it looked really bad, especially on cases. Yup, the numbers matched. She looked uncertianly at the necklace again and sighed. Friday the thirteenth it might be, but she'd never had this much bad luck in her life. And she swore to God that thing had winked at her or something.
She hesitantly knocked on the door, one thousand and one scenarios of the chaos she'd find when she got home playing through her head. Her poor housekeeper, bless her, would probably be at her wits end soon. Reeshie sighed again and ran a finger over the charm. She slowly shook her head. No, it had been nessicary. She needed to know more about it.

Sileust yelped and jumped up from where she'd been hidden, looking at something or other in the bushes in front of the house. "Ohoh! I'm so sorry, I was supposed to greet you... but there was this really interesting bug... and... and..." The doll bit her lip, hopping back up onto the step.
"You can go on in... they're all waiting," she murmured, eyes downcast, and opened the door for Reeshie.

Reeshie was totally taken aback by the sudden appearence. "Um, waiting?" she asked slowly, processing everything Sileust had said. She nodded in understanding and walked into the house. She took one look around and blinked. It was a nice house, smaller than her villa, but just as cozy and homely. Her ears twitched and she followed the sound of voices into another room. There were several other people in the room as well as a creature she didn't recognize, but took an immediate liking to.
"Good evening," she said in a smooth tone, masking a twinge of nervousness as she nodded to each one in turn. She was never a very good people person; she worked better with animals.

"Reeshie, good, you're here. Take a seat. That just leaves one more. Then we can get down to business." Aubrianna gestured to the couch.
Perhaps we should start anyway if our last caretaker doesn't show soon, Abolesce suggested, stretching a little.

Reeshie nodded and sat down without a second thought. She crossed one leg over the other, rethought the decision, and switched legs. "What's this talk of business?" she asked, looking first to Aubrianna, then Abolesce.

"I have an announcement to make, but I really would prefer to wait, if that's all right with all of you."

Trintika was late, and she treally hated being late.
Huffing and puffing, she ran up to the house she had gone to earlier to inquire about a pet. She had recieved notice to return, and now she was late.
Wincing, she straightened up as best she could, smoothing her hair and breathing deeply. After a few moments of prepping, she rapped sharply on the door so she could be heard over whatever happened to be going on inside.

"Of course. I'd imagine you don't wish to have to repeat yourself, nor exclude one of... caretakers?" she replied, finishing with the question. Reeshie absently scratched behind one ear and then went to rub her finger over the charm again.

Sileust didn't bother saying anything, just stepped up beside Trintika and opened the door for her. She didn't enjoy being ignored, but this wasn't her time to shine - this was about Mother, Dau, and the Dumyr.
Aubri spotted Trintika as the door opened. "Ah-hah! There you are. Come in, sit down. I-" A beeper went off in the kitchen. "I will be right back," she finished, chagrined, and stood up, hurrying to the kitchen.
Abolesce glanced out the door, craning his long neck to do so. Sileust, dear - you can go to the Count's, if you'd like. You've earned it. Just... behave. Don't do anything that'll get you into trouble.
With a happy, hyper thank-you, Sileust was off and running.

Trin quickly moved out of the way of the young woman, stepping inside timidly. She nodded at Reeshie, then sat down in the nearest, oh-so-comfy seat. She idly twiddled her thumbs while waiting for Aubri to come back, not really liking being in the presence of a room full of strangers.

Maggie had sat, simply watchign and listening as Abolesce and Dau had tried to explain a little. This day gets odder and odder, she thought idly as she nodded a greetign to Aubri. I came expecting talking cats and get confronted by a living doll and a being who was created in a lab. What's next?
Maggie shook her head slightly, clearing it off the trailing thoughts and began to focus more on the group sitting around her.

Kat had been content to sit quietly and absorb the conversations around her. Lion-sized? Well, it could still fit in the house, though she wasn't sure she was going to like that. At least they turned humanoid. Vertical was better in the size constraints in her house.
Integrate them into the world? What exactly was Aubrianna thinking when choosing me? I have to be the worst person when it comes to that kind of stuff. Though the underground settlement bit sounded interesting. Kat hoped Mr. Abolesce would elaborate, but when he didn't, she just tuned her ears towards other talk going on.
She gave a slight nod back to this third new person, but wasn't sure if she had seen. Someone mentioned her name, but she had already forgotten. Now there was the Fourth. "All alone and all together," she hummed to herself, then realized that she had been neglecting Dau while floating among her own thoughts. "Sorry," she said, scratching his chin again, "I spaced out."

Now that Trin was settled, she had a chance to look around her. It was a cosy house, just as it had been when she'd visited before. However, it was now full of activity and various people... as well as some non-people. She was still uncomfortable around the other guests, so she waited quietly for Aubri to return from the kitchen. In the meanwhile, she soaked up the atmospehere and waited quietly.

Hakim was intrigued by explaination on the Dumyr's city. Intergrating them back into society would be a big responsibility. The atmosphere of the room was tense, he could sense the nerves of the other four applicants. If that was the right word.
Smiling to himself he waited patiently for Aubri to return and make her announcement. It seemed rude to start a conversation before they had heard what Aubri wanted to say.

Aubri skittered out from the kitchen, pulling off oven mits. "Okay, announcement time. I've been talking with the leaders of Baarikmet, the Dumyrciedel city. They've extended offers of apprenticeship to the Dumyr you will be taking care of.
"If you choose to look into this option, and your Dumyr is found qualified, then you will not see your Dumyr unless you go to the city or they decide to visit you. After their apprenticeship is over, it will be their choice to either continue on in the city or come here, to Barton.
"An apprenticeship is an important thing, especially when offered by the leaders of the city. Your Dumyr will be trained in history, magic, and ritual. They will become, to some degree, scholars.
"I know many of you wanted to bring your Dumyr home. Still, this is a great opportunity for the children. You will still be considered their parents, and you will have a home if and when you decide to visit. Your Dumyr will still be taught to speak our language, and will be prepared to come into our modern world should they choose to."
She took a deep breath and smiled, tightly.
"Any takers?"
