Thanks Desert. But how do I pay? I've never done a contest before xd
PostPosted: Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:02 am

Crap! I forgot about the contest! Its okay, I've already got a little plotline planned out so it'll only take me a few hours to write and revise it.
Good thing I dropped by here.

So you're joining, KaNugget? Awesome!

So as you all probably noticed I've gotten a significant amount of writing done lately. Well, a significant amount compared to what I was producing. But now I'm stuck. I'm just under 27,000 and I'm stuck. I think I need to take out the Write or Die.

After Write or Die
I hit 27k! I'm so happy. I feel all motivated again. My goal, now, is to hit 28k by the end of the day.

Did I tell you all that I started the sequel already? It'll have less action and more philosophy, which should be interesting to write.

I know I'm behind on my schedule/plan, but I really think I'm going to hit 50,000 by the end of the month. And I feel confident about NaNoWriMo in November. Gosh, I'm all excited and giddy. mrgreen

To pay you have to trade with PostProgressMule smile It's all in the rules part.

So glad people are joining!
PostPosted: Wed Aug 04, 2010 12:45 pm

Yeah, I have never done a trade before, so I didn't even know how to get to trade, but I found a link at the bottom of the screen and I think I did it. This competition actually cost me 600 goal because I had to buy a trading pass, but I'm sure I'll use that again. smile Thanks for the help!

So apparently a few weeks ago (when I was saying ******** the world!') a mentor in my youth group started a writers circle. They called it 'Poetry Circle' but screw them because they do all kinds of writing. So today I actually decided to go.

It's run by this guy Kevin who has amazing t-shirts. I've been trying to figure out for 4 years what he majored in and apparently it was writing (get use of Brown freaken University!) He made this whole augment about how writing is everywhere. What's the most used form a communication? Writing! People use it in texts (thought not well) in emails, on the internet, in books. Think about it, the most common thing in the internet is text. Somebody wrote everything on the internet.

We started off with an excise called Swim. I don't know why he calls it swim. We free wrote for 10 minuets about any object that we had find at our yard sale organizer (we're holding a massive yard sale this Saturday). I wrote about a scary doll that I assume was used for torture. The doll killed me in the end. I'd so show it to you guys, but he collected our notebooks at the end (so stealing it in two weeks when he's my last time until the winter).

Then we had to take words from our first story and use them to create a completely different story. Kevin and I were the only ones to write about different things. A word, or better yet, phrase was awful awful, so I decided to write about the Newport Creamery. We were suppose to write it like a Dr. Seuss book.

The best story out of them all was my friend Bambii's. He wrote about single glove that he had found. He wrote about the gloves life, with his friends Lenny and Tracey. Glovey was very lonely so his friends tried to set him up on a date. No body like him so he killed himself. Epic!

Then we did some one word stories and played a little word ball. When our coordinator came back we had to cut the cussing and censor ourselves. I didn't like that. A writer should feel free to write and say whatever they feel like (this was Kevin's argument too). So I'll say ******** if I want to. ********, ********, ******** I really like the fact that Kevin has started this group. It's totally below my writing abilities, but you can learn something from everything and the activities are fun. I think this is really good because there are a few writers in the group and I wish they had something like this when I was still in high school.

I'm thinking about convincing these writer friends to do NaNoWriMo. I mean, I know they have a lot on there plate. There are three of them who I want to do it. Stacey does chorus, is Vice President of the youth group, and plans on becoming a cheerleader. Jessi is secretary of the youth group and has marching band. Ray...well Ray does nothing. He has no excuse, he's doing NaNo.

I think it would be really great to convince them to do it or at least try. When I found NaNo last year my friend Michelle was going to do it with me, but she bailed. It's a hard commitment, but I totally thin they could do it. I really love those kids. I know I'm only a few years older than them, but since I've had a leadership position over them the whole time I've know them, one I haven't even slightly abused (alright, I did abuse Seniority, but not my section leader position or my presidential position) that I think of them as my kids, or at least see the ones closer in age as younger siblings. I want to pass on my love for writing to them. mrgreen

Because my idiot friend made me watch that new cartoon Batman movie, Under the Red Hood, so I've been day dreaming about Batman all day instead of writing. And then complaining about how the Ocean State libraries suck and don't have any of the graphic novels I need.

At the end of the day, though, I realized that I had not submitted anything to my writers group...but no one else has either mrgreen So I ended up writing a piece really quite and I'll be my second entry for the contest. While the last one was a dark sci-fi this one is a dark romance. I just can't seem to write a romance with a happy ending. *shrugs* I went for a Laugh in the Sea of Sadness for this one.

I'm not sure if I'm as sexist in my writing as I thought I did. First I thought I always wrote about girls. But then I analysised myself I discovered my 3rd person (which is what i write more, or so I thought) tends to be more centered around female characters, and 1st person tends to be from the point of view of a male. But then I remembered all the female 1st person stories I've written, although they may be a minority...I don't know anymore!

Maybe I should just stop trying to over analysis and just write. Write what feels natural, don't try to appeal to anyone, that's how token characters come along.

Anyway, I'm going to go back to scrounging the internet for illegal copies of the Legacy arc. So then I can move on to scrounging up illegal copies of the Cataclysm arc. And then I can just get No Man's Land out of the library, because they actually have that one! xp

Totally got not writing down but that's totally okay. I needed a break. Now, after my oh-so-fun birthday party I feel so relaxed (which is weird, since we spent the whole time playing Marco-Polo in the pool and running around the neighborhood playing manhunt, not very relaxing games).

I'm really sad write now. Not a depressed sad, but a nostalgic sad. I'm going to miss my friends. I guess I'm just scared. Everything is changed. I'm becoming an adult, I'm moving into college, my dad's getting a new job, I've finally figured out what I truly want to do with my life. But I'm going to miss everything from my old life. The band, my youth group, high school, my friends. I'm honest to God scared and I don't want to lose all these people that I call friends, who are practically family to me. Honestly I have tears in my eyes while writing this, because I love them, and I'm going to miss them like crazy.

So I edited my second entry for the contest. It's really sad, and I think that's because I was listening to Brand New while writing it. I guess music really does affect how you write. I dare you all to try to write something happy while listening to Brand New.

I also inspired my friend Jen to write at least 300 words a day. That's so cool, I'm inspiring mrgreen

Apparently I have a reputation as a writer to even my friends from high school. One of my birthday cards, the one from my friend Erin, said good luck in college, blah, blah, blah, and keep writing that novel. biggrin She's always taken an interest in my writing and keeps begging me to edit my first novel so she can read it. It's really great to have such supportive friends. I only hope my roommates don't hate me next November when I become anti-social. blaugh

...
My writing group edited my short story for me. They caught a few spelling errors, but then my opening got torn apart. Well, not really, I was just told it was cliche as Hell. I was told the rest of the piece was really good, my character really found his voice, it's just the beginning. I'm trying to come up with a new start now.

I've always sucked at beginnings. I usually just say, screw this and just write so I can get going. It's good advice to just push through the beginning, but you need to go back and fix it later, which I also suck at. And I know how important beginning are, they set the mood, tone, and the readers opinion. I don't know what to do. crying

Haha, I understand what you are going through with being afraid to leave everyone behind. It is horrible having a great time with friends/family but then getting nostalgic because you are going to somewhere new without them. You will be fine smile

Beginnings can be tricky! The beginning sets the whole thing, tells a reader whether this is worth reading or not. Cliches are coming back with fads such as Twilight but the really new things get the real respect. A great exercise to do is pick a random subject you feel passionate about such as anti-abortion and write something on that subject. It gets you out of the 'cliche' mindset and into the nitty gritty real life setting.

Cliches are always going to be in a story, you cannot avoid them. Complete originally is very hard to achieve however I am sure you can do it after a few years experience. The first years of being a writer is exploring cliches and learning from mistakes. I don't think anyone can really have enough experience.
