We'll just see about that, Tereth replied, amused by the other's posturing. This race would be different than the last, for he would not be powering ahead from the start. He'd be saving that for the end, and which point he could easily overtake the blue-- if he hadn't already by that point. Let us begin then. The two pairs took off back into the air again, and at Opeth's signal the second race began.

"GO!" And with that, Opeth went. Xan had been ready for the acceleration this time, and lent forward over her dragon's neck. No way they were winning this, but she didn't care about that, and with the elation of speed Opeth didn't either, for a short while at any rate. Let the slow brown lumber into the lead in the end, but first let him watch speed and grace he could never possess. Big dragons were sledgehammers, rough and crude, while small dragons were darting clever silver needles. He didn't care if he didn't win this... Much... Okay, he cared. Baring his teeth at the world Opeth shot onward, hoping to get so big a lead that even when he tired the larger dragon wouldn't be able to catch him.

Tereth flew along at a decent clip, but made no effort to overtake the speedy blue. Yet. He would tire out in time, but in the meantime he would let Opeth enjoy his lead. They had a long race ahead of them still, so it was best to conserve energy while he could. The brown may not be quite as speedy or graceful in the air as a blue, but he definitely had more than enough stamina to spare.
S'ren was content to maintain the speed they were flying at, mostly letting the dragons fly this race on their own as he and Xan rode along as passengers. He too had no doubts that his dragon would catch up in the end, but for now he merely watched as Opeth increased the distance between them. He could only imagine what sort of conversation the blue and his rider might be having about now, if any at all.

Predictably it was not long before Opeth began to tire, and despite his best efforts the blue started to slow down. Snarling frustration he strove to maintain his lead, but he could already swear he felt that stupid brown just behind him.
As her dragon growled and snarled Xan gave a lopsided grin and patted his neck; it had to be hard work being so grumpy all the time, maybe if he spent a bit less effort on being such a grouch he'd be able to fly for longer!
"Very funny Mine. Very. Funny. In case you didn't guess, I was being sarcastic."

As Opeth began to visibly tire, Tereth took the opportunity to begin closing the gap between them. It wasn't as difficult to do when the other was slowing down as such. Yes, victory seemed near.
Try not to make Opeth feel too badly about it, S'ren cautioned as they began flying just over the bluerider pair.
Of course not, he agreed, glancing down below them as they began to pull ahead. He was almost tempted to slow down even, but... Well, they would be completing the lap soon, so might as well go for the win while at it.
