Just a reminder, this thread is for History chat.

The French suck. They seriously do. They lost Canada to the British(Way back when xD), and almost got killed by the Germans.

Don't forget, they were almost killed by the Germans TWICE! They are a rather pathetic country in terms of international relations, and their government has never been too stable. Truly crazy.

But, you are forgeting about Napolean ((Even if he wasn't French, he still led them)) and Charlemane. They both nearly conquered Europe. The only things that screw France over was the same thing that screwed Germany over, too many enemies and too much land. That is always the downfall of any nation at war.

All this talk of history reminds me....

I know where the middle finger earned its symbolism! It was historical too, so you can't tell me to go elsewhere...

I don't know from where, but I'm guessing its just like the British "middle finger". Holding up your index and middle fingre backwards to someone in Bristish culture is the same thing. Started back in the good ol' Hundred Years War.

Precisely. The British and the French at war. Can't remember the name of the battle, but during this battle, the French threatened to cut off the middle fingers of the British longbowmen because it is such an important finger when using the bows. With the French retreating in defeat, the British longbowmen raised their middle fingers and cheered, "Pluck you! Pluck you!"

Wow, the French really were funny in the past. My friend thinks they're all snobs, but he was saying it in the middle of our French class. xd

And they're still part of the UN Security Council.... rolleyes

It was the battle of Anginecourt((Probably missspelled, but I know how to say it.)) Three hundred longbowmen, about fifty pikemen, veruse three thousand French knights. THe French would cut off the first two fingers, since you use it to pull a bow string. That was what you were thinking about Trimely, its not the middle finger. If fact, cutting off the middle finger gives you a slight edge because that gap between your index and ring finger acts as a natural thingy to hold the arrow. You can pull a bow with three fingers, but not with two.
