The mare perked up when he moved out a bit. Maybe...he didn't...
"Well I guess I have... But um... Do you dislike me? I've kept saying were were friends but well...you've said it was a mistake to show yourself to me...so does that mean you hate me?" There she had asked it. Mian really hoped he didn't hate her. She'd never known someone to hate her before. She knew some didn't like her, or thought she was weird. But that wasn't to horrible. But to be hated...well...

"By mistake, I simply meant that for one who has spent the majority of his life in hiding," Archi explained, picking his wording carefully. "That to be seen out while getting food...I was careless. It has nothing to do with my like or dislike...just meaning that I had been careless. Had you been a more fierce mer, out to make a name for yourself...I suppose things would be going differently about now, rather than an idle chat."
He wondered why this mare was so damned and determined to be hid friend. Maybe she truly was as lonely as he was. "You've speculated on my family...what about yours? Surely they don't think you're strange and run from you."

"Oh..." Mian let that sink in for a moment before smiling happily. "I'm glad. I was worried for a moment." She nodded. However his question took her off guard. She blinked a couple times, a bit stunned he had asked. But it seemed he really had asked about her family.
"Oh I don't know my family. My mother left me on some rocks when I was still safe in my shell. I remember her talking to me before it went quiet. When I came out a while later I was all alone. I played by the tide pools with the little seathi mostly. And I used to follow mer families around. That worked fine until my sky obsession started... then I had to stay alone mostly, unless I found a new group who had never heard of me. News travels fast and no one likes a crazy."

Archi listened to the mer, tilting his head slightly. "She left you on your own before you left your shell? Where do you think she went? What did those other families think?"
He couldn't help the questions, it seemed like they were the proper in this conversation...given Mian had asked her fair share.
"I wonder if it was predators...." the tentacled mer looked away, thinking. "There are quiet a few large enough..."

Mian nodded. "Yup. I don't know where she went. I don't remember her sounded paniced. I don't think she was in danger... She sounded a little sad. Least I remember her sounding sad. I like to think that maybe something bad happened. Maybe I was an accident. And she had to leave me in the hopes some other family would find me. I figure she went back to home. Wherever that is." Mian shrugged lightly, thinking. It seemed like it was the most likely. "As for the other families... Well... Most were happy to take me in when I was little. I was a poor lost foal, they took me in and took care of me. But when I started wishing for the sky...Well they were worried I'd be a risk to their kids and started avoiding me. Mer's aren't meant to be out of the water." She shrugged a little" They thought I'd make their kids want to leave to and then we'd all end up dead or something.." She shuttered. "It was harder after that. But I'd learned what to eat...so it wasn't so bad."

Archi frowned, or it looked that way around the beak. "So...she abandoned you? I wonder why. I can understand why my mother would have with me....but you?"
"At least you had others that would care for you..." he murmured, looking past her to the waters around them. "Even if they did think you were crazy. Why would you give up the water for the sky? Swimming I would imagine is like flying....same movements, different element..."

Mian nodded. "It seems so. As far as I can tell at least." She shrugged lightly. "You know...your not the scariest thing around. I've seen some of those land walkers who are just scary as can be." She shivered. "And they are just mean! Your not mean, so your not scary, I think I've said that." She went quiet, thinking a moment. Ah the inevitable question... Why give up the water for the sky. She huffed lightly, a little depressed at the question. Most didn't stick around long after asking it. But then again he was her friend, so he wouldn't run off. She nodded to herself. "Well because even the water has to stop when it hits land." She explained. "We have limits. The sky doesn't though. The sky is the true ocean. Truly endless. To be in it is to be totally free." She let out an airy sigh. "That's why."

I don't have to be mean to scare others," the stallion replied. He brought his tentacles up to rest on them, as if they were a bed. He moved his hooves over them, as if inspecting their spines. "I don't think landwalkers are as scary as some of the things in the water. I've seen a lot of frightening things in the deep...like fish with no eyes and all teeth...."
He glanced at her. "That's not entirely true. How do you know that once you reach the stars, it'll keep going? What if the stars are like the bottom of our ocean? I think they're just as vast as each other....but, ours has hidden places. You can see everything in the sky."

"I don't think anything can really be scary unless they are mean to. Mean is scary." She nodded. Curious, she watched him position himself. "That is so cool" She said off hand. At his question she blinked. "Oh I don't mean up and up, I'm sure there is a top that is just like our bottom. But you don't have to stop swimming just because you hit land. We have to stop. Those who fly don't have to stop. They can go over the ocean, over the land. Up to tall mountains and down into valleys. That's that's what I want. And that isn't true, there are clouds. Clouds could be places to hide." She smiled at him. "And tall mountains have caves, like we do. I...a birdy told me once, you know one of those birds that like to swim to? One once told me that he'd seen lots of things on land like what we have. Mountains, valleys. He said we've got prettier things in the ocean but I don't know, trees are vary pretty to."

"Some people don't think like you," Archi replied quietly, ignoring her observation on he was 'sitting'.
He looked up at her descriptions of land. "We have those things down here, and more. We have trees too, but we also have the coral reefs. The land dwellers do not have those. We have the depths where things that glow live....they couldn't compare to what we have. They have their monsters, we have them bigger here."
The stallion shrugged, "And you don't have to stop swimming because you hit land, simply swim along the shore to the end of the land, then keep going. They might have clouds, we have our versions....but, a cloud up there can't completely hide you like things down here....not like the depths. They wouldn't be able to survive them, because they'd be crushed. I imagine a bird can fly to the end of the sky freely with out anything harming it. Here, if you swim deep enough to areas you shouldn't...the water will crush you."

"You know, your not making a good argument for why the ocean is better then the sky. The sky won't kill you, but your saying go to deep and the water will. That doesn't make it better. I'd like to live long, thank you vary much." She stuck her tongue out a little at him. "In the sky you can go in one line forever. And see everything. We're on the bottom right now, the sky is the top." She paused. "And before you say it I know I wouldn't be able to see deep into the depths and see all these monsters you keep talking about but I don't need to. There are monsters on land and your monsters aren't any worse then they are. So there." Mian nodded, huffing a bit. "You are so stubborn." He was the first who put up a good argument against the sky. And she wasn't sure how to deal with that. But...in a way it was nice. She felt like he was taking her seriously. Unlike all the others who just dismissed her claims as being lunatic.

"The sky might kill you...since you know, you're made for water," Archi muttered, resting his hooves over his tentacles. "And this is by far not the bottom of the ocean. This is perhaps a ledge. The bottom is countless fathoms down in the depths."
He shrugged, "It's not always bad...sometimes the water warms up where fire comes out into the water. It's nice there. And sometimes it's very dark and the only things you see are other fish glowing."
"And they're not all monsters down there....and not all the monsters live in the depths. They live up here too, in the shallows..." Archi told her, then pointed a hoof behind her. "Like that one!"

"Oh hush." Mian giggled lightly however. "Yes yes, I know I'm made for the water, and I know this isn't the bottom but to everyone else this is the floor." She shook her head. "So stubborn, I mean really. Up here the water is always warm. And at night you can see thousands of glowing things. The stars." She tilted her head upward before looking back at him. Not all the monsters were in the deep? But all he had... As he pointed behind her and spoke she squeaked and turned around quickly to look. A little frightened, and a little excited. Really she wanted to see these monsters he kept talking about!

Archi chuckled when she looked, mostly amused with himself at tricking her. He sighed and peered out at her from the nook in the rocks. "I wouldn't let a real monster sneak up on you...."
He looked up, then shrugged a little, "Stars are so far away. You can't touch them."

Mian blinked, looking around. "Oh you tricked me you!" She turned back around and looked at him, a little surprised he had pulled that kind of trick on her. "Oh you, that was a mean trick." But she giggled lightly as she said it. At his words she smiled. "See, that's why your no monster. A monster wouldn't save a little air head like me from another monster."
Mian followed his gaze upward. "Well, how do you know you can't touch the stars." She smiled. "You've never been up there. Perhaps those who can are able to touch the stars." Then the little blue mare got an idea. "Um...Archi, I can call you Archi can't I? I have an idea. Would you like to hear it?"
