any bookstore that sells new books.....look under the metaphysical section........I have a question (it will be explained further in a thread in a bit!)
Does any one here branch out past Paganism? Like into more occult stuff?

I know the Complete Idiot's Guide was mentioned, and I have to say, that is the first book I got, and where I learned most I didn't know from. It was the CIG Spells and Spellcraft. It already says that it's not just particularly for Wicca, but that's what the writers base their text on. They just make a few adjustments like "Call the God and the Goddess, or whichever you feel you should. For example, if you're consecrating an athame, concentrate on Air" or something like that. My best friend also has CIG Wiccan Craft. So we get together and talk about what we've learned from the books. The main thing I like about it, is that it says the magic comes from inside of you, so just do what feels right. You don't have to do exactly what they tell you. That's just an example. So long as you got the basic principle down, Wiccan rede and are aware of the threefold, then you're okay.

I also have (though am only borrowing it until I can buy it for myself (my brother was looking into wicca for a little less than a year, which surprised me)) Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft.

Now, I havn't read too much of it yet, but according to my brother, that's a little olderfashioned as far as rituals go. My brother had a talk with me about it and mentioned "I don't care if you decide this is for you, just be careful. I know some people have gone out and had orgies." yeah, I didn't really want to be caught in that, which is why I was glad to read (in one of the books, somewhere) that usually the ritual at Beltane (I think it was?), as far as covens go, is done between the High Pristess and her partner, while in private. Or if something is done within the circle, it's not actually sex, just something symbolizing it (dance around the May pole, maybe?)

Yeah, I know I need to touch up, probably, but those are the books.

prices:
***CIG Spells and Spellcraft, and Wicca Craft - I got for $17 each
***Buckland's Complete Guide to Witchcraft - $15 , though you may find it cheaper at some places

Okay, this book isn't about Wicca, but it does tell you how to discover your Totem Animal. I think I bought it in Washington State, near the Yakima area. The price on the book is listed as $19.95 US and $ 31.95 CAN. The book is called Animal Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small It is written by Ted Andrews and it "Includes a Comprehensive Dictionary of Animal, Bird, & Reptile Symbolism". Its a pretty good book, as it walks the reader through different exercises and I find it helpful in finding your Spirit/Totem guide. I don't remember exactly how the author describes the Totem animals, but I like to consider one's Spirit/Totem animals as one's guides. I believe the author says that a person can have more than one Spirit/Totem animal/guide at any given time. But please don't quote me on that, since I'm not positive.
If anyone's interested, I suggest looking in the New Age/ Shamanism/ Magic section of your local bookstores...where you'd find your Wiccan/Pagan books, I'd think.

I was wondering when someone would mention the Complete Idiot's Guide. That's what kinda made me start practicing again. My friend originally got me into it but I was scared my mother would find out. Now I really don't care so I had to start from scratch: New altar, new wand, new candles, even a new Book of Shadows. But now I feel like I'm whole again, like I'm a complete person. Oh and another thing, I LOVE SCOTT CUNNINGHAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting that link to the free eBooks!

I don't mean to list my whole library here, Okay, so I did post my whole paganism/Wicca book collection, but I've enjoyed every book on Wicca or Witchcraft that I've ever read. I've just read all of these in the past 2 months, with the exception of Teen Witch, which I read like 4 years ago when I was in high school.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft by Denise Zimmerman and Katherine A. Gleason, I think, is a really wonderful book for beginners. I'm a beginner myself, and I like this book because it touches on many different topics. It covers a lot of things. If I was to take only one book everywhere with me, it would have to be this one. I think it makes a good reference guide. The best book on Wicca I've read. I haven't finished this book yet... Just a few more pages to go...I strongly recommend this book! The price listed on the back of it is $16.95.

Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham is another good intro book, for Wiccans and non-Wiccans alike. This is the book that most people are gonna recommend to you first especially if you're new to Wicca. $9.95

Rocking the Goddess: Campus Wicca for the Student Practitioner by Anthony Paige is a great book. It's written for Wiccans in the college population. Makes you feel more relieved to know that there are lots of college Wiccans out there, and what's great is that you get to read many of their stories in this book. This book understands that most college students aren't the richest in the world, when it comes to buying ritual items. $12.95

Teen Witch by Silver RavenWolf was the first book I ever read. That's when I discovered The Craft five years ago. The book was good in some ways 'cuz she tells you stories of other teenagers who also practice Wicca. Her history of witchcraft may be inaccurate, though. $12.95

Book of Shadows by Phyllis Curott is more of an inspirational book. I thought it was really good, and it gives you an idea of what being in a coven is like, I think. I found that this book was available in my local public library, so I just borrowed it since I can't really afford to spend money all the time. I thought this was a really good book. Tells you a bit about mythology too. $15.95

To Ride a Silver Broomstick is another one by Silver RavenWolf. I've only read maybe like the first 1/8 of this book, but I liked the way RavenWolf writes as if she's speaking to you in person in a friendly way. $14.95

The Encyclopedia of Magic and Witchcraft by Susan Greenwood was on discount when I saw it, and as I looked through it, I knew I had to get it. I looked through it some more, and I really looks like a good book that gives you an overview of the different kinds of witchcraft and magic around the world in the past and present. $29.95

The Element Encyclopedia of Witchcraft: The Complete A-Z for the Entire Magical World by Judika Illes was a book I just bought a few days ago. I thought it looked like a book packed with lots of info on magickal stuff. So yeah, I got it. I still have yet to look through it.... It's still in the trunk of my car because I'm hiding from my parents. They hate it when I spend money when I don't need to. I got the hardcover version. There's also a paperback. $34.71

Spell in Your Pocket by Kate West is a tiny little book that tells you a bit about the beliefs and practice of Wicca and also comes with a few little spells in the back. I haven't read the whole thing yet, but I think this is a good book for those who just want to get a little idea of what Wicca is. $8.95

Not like you needed to know - books I plan to read in the future:

That Complete Idiot's Guide to Wicca Craft by Miria Liguana and Nina Metzner looks like a good book to me. It seems to be a book that shows you how to make your own ritual tools and stuff. I plan to get that book sometime soon. $16.95

The Science Of The Craft: Modern Realities in the Ancient Art of Witchcraft by William H., Jr. Keith is another book I want to get soon. Seems to me it's about quantum physics and of course, The Craft.

Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft by Raymond Buckland $17.95

I've mentioned this trilogy on another thread, but I figure I'll post it here in case anybody's interested. Its called the "Sevenwaters Trilogy" by Juliet Marillier. The first book is called "Daughter of the Forest", second book is "Son of the Shadows" and the third book is "Child of Prophesy". They're good books about the last grips of magic in Ireland. "Daughter of the Forest was about $7 and Child of Prophesy was about $8. I got the "Son of Shadows" in hardback and it was a little more. But in paperback it should be about the same as the other two.

Anyway, I've started reading this book called Modern Magick by Don Kraig. $17.95 Not very far into it. It's not about Wicca though. Sometimes I thought of doing ceremonial magick, but... We'll see. I mean, it looks really complicated and time-consuming, and what I don't have is time...

And currently, I think I might search for some of the story books mentioned above. Thanks for posting them!
