The thief held back a little bile that began to rise in his throat. What was this thing? It looked human from far away, but up close... it couldn't be anything normal. Maybe it was one of those Mordachean horrors he'd heard tales about. Decayed skin, slow movements, nasty claws... but this thing was pretty damn fast. But despite its order... he simply would not be content with being unarmed against this... this... thing. He backed his upper body away from Ace about an inch, something he at least hoped she wouldn't mind. After all, it's not like you get closer to a blade at your throat.

As he lifted his arm in a very unoffensive way, holding the knife as if it were a delicate handkerchief, he made his move. Pushing off the ground with his right arm, the thief shoved his body upwards, in an arc, aiming a kick right for Ace's sword arm, or at least the sword itself. While his legs were attacking, the thief took some of his attention to move the dagger back into his hand, since it wouldn't do him any good if he dropped it. Honestly, he didn't care whether his kick hit or not, he just needed to get back on his feet! The thief moved to his left, using the momentum from the kick off the ground and his other limbs (they can push too, of course~) to send him rolling at least once. However, he used his hands to turn his body as he rolled, ending in a crouched state facing his assailant. The moment she did so much as take half a step, he'd likely be springing out towards her, knife in hand and aimed for the throat.

This'll come... later.

Ace swung her blade away, following the arc of the thief's kick to avoid contact and using its own momentum to recover. As the thief coiled to spring, she lunged, throwing her muscle into an impaling strike.

Her one good eye met his.

Fool.

The thief got impaled, simply put. The blade went straight through his stomach and out his lower back. It was obviously painful. The thief was rather shocked to see that, up close, the foe was quite human... at least somewhat. He could make out some rather feminine features on what did look human, so it was only all the more humiliating, to be killed by a girlish... thing. Though blood began to creep out of the corners of his mouth, he was smiling. The thief hardly had the strength to move, but he gave the swordswoman the gift of knowing why he was smiling by pointing behind her.

A snarling roar pierced the calm mountain air amidst the faint sounds of wings flapping through the air. In the distance, a brief few minutes or so from Ace's position, were what could be made out as at least two figures, brown-colored and... really rather intimidating. Wild wyverns were flying through this neck of the mountains, and the scent of blood just baited them over! They couldn't quite tell what was down there, or how much, but there was something bloody and injured, and they would have it.

"Thanks for the pity kill, demon. You'll be safe if you go that way..." the thief said, gesturing with his head towards her right, before finally falling limp on the woman's sword. Why couldn't dying people ever die easily? Oh well, at least the fact that she had boob(s?) made him help her out. But, she'd have to run quite quick to escape the wyverns, she'd have no chance to gather her things or prepare herself, unless she wanted to risk being attacked...

At least, things would look that way for a brief moment before the rhythmic clompings of horse hooves began to echo within her earshot. A certain carriage was approaching, at a rather brisk pace. By the looks of it, the driver saw the wyverns, too, and that horse was spooked. The carriage stopped as close to the campsite as it could without leaving the smooth, path-like part of the mountain, and Jerry the driver began to shout towards the cloaked figure.

"Hey, wyverns are coming! Get outta there!" he shouted, waving his arms around as if to get Ace's attention. Jerry couldn't very well leave a person in these mountains, alone, with that coming their way! "Go on, go help that guy get his stuff together!" he said, shooing the group towards the back of the carriage, "I'll park this outta the way. Daffodil here'll only get scared and hurt herself, with them in the air. Take care of 'em, but don't let 'em take care 'o you, hm?"

As the group was all placed rather unceremoniously upon the mountainside, Jerry rode off, still visible enough for someone to watch him park the carriage behind some rather large rocks. The silly hat was still visible on his head as he tried to keep Daffodil the Horse from making any loud noises.

...I never did get to this. No biggie, because Sephas doesn't gamble. He feels he's too scholarly to leave a game up to something as trivial as chance. Things happened for a reason most of the time, and when there wasn't a reason, magic was involved. It probably made the remainder of that ride a little boring for Joshua, but he probably lived.

When Jerry shouted wyverns, Sephas had to muffle a yelp. He'd barely even seen a wyvern before, let alone fought one! The wyverns that novices rode were likely domesticated from the start, and these were wild. The mage didn't even know how they attacked! But... things began to click rather quickly, and Sephas took a few steps back from the rest of the group.

"H-hey guys... I use magic, so I-I'm just going to h-hang back at f-first." It was a plausible enough reason, he hoped. Mages really couldn't take a hit until they got stronger, so he was acting in the group's best interest! Sephas looked towards the two swordsmen, Joshua and Ziaram. Hopefully, they'd be able to at least dodge an attack. If not... he'd feel really bad, and he'd probably throw up from watching someone die in front of him, and... Tiki was there, too. But she was a child. "T-Tiki, can you... can you fight...? Shouldn't you be back here, where it's safer?" After all, the only thing he knew about her was her name, and that she was a child. And children... children couldn't fight, normally! Things were just looking worse and worse with each passing second. Sephas looked up, and saw... what looked like two and a half silhouettes approaching them. And there were... five of them, including the traveler but not Tiki? Sure, they had numbers, but those wyverns probably had power and speed...

She didn't even really hear what Sephas said.

Up to that point, Tiki had stopped asking questions. She wasn't even really thinking about anything. Just staring at the floor, calmly. The only thing that had run through her mind was shortly after Ziaram's last response.

Wait... thieves?

The thought lingered for a bit, but eventually drifted off. Perhaps it was because there was too much to think about. She just thought about nothing.

Until now.

It seemed like everything else disappeared. Her hearing was fixed on the roar from the distance. Accompanied by the rhythmic beat after beat of leathery wings flapping, carrying a heavy body. Getting closer, closer...

She felt her breath escape. She could see the beast in her mind. Something that should have been familiar, but wasn't. The empty, thoughtless looks they bore. Tiny little slits that spoke of nothing, saw something different then what she saw. Acting on some long lost purpose, the goal of which had been lost, and replaced with basic feral desire. Movements, growls and roars that meant nothing. Nothing but the simple-minded pursuit of food. Prey. Even thinking things that bore no ill will, things that didn't deserved to be killed, and then eaten and ripped apart and...

Nothing was just a wyvern. There were no wyverns where she was from. What was once a thinking being, turned into... That.
The stuff of many a nightmare.

Fighting was not a first instinct for Tiki. There was no one who needed her. Her first thought was to get away and at all costs, avoid the mindless glare that was sure to accompany it...

She didn't answer Sephas. Within the span of a second, she scrambled out of her seat and dove into the back of the carriage. She went back as far as she could, and pressed her back against the carriage, glancing around, listening nervously. She was still and quiet. Her small hand instinctively wandered to her chest. She squeezed something small and round under her shirt. Make sure it's there, just for security.

User ImageWyverns? Coming their way? Of all the kinds of news they could be getting, this was what they got. Oh well...Ziaram had tricks up his sleeve for those kinds of things.

Bringing his Light Brand up, he smirked. "Wyverns...well, it may turn out that we could have a disadvantage, but we don't. They don't like magic...a good thing I brought along this sword." All right so time to make the plans.

Looking at the surroundings, Ziaram frowned...there wasn't much to use for any kind of surprise attack, so the next best option was...to stay out, and then take them head on. "Joshua, you stay towards the front. I'll have your back with my Light Brand, then Sephas will have our backs...hopefully, with his magic. This a good plan guys?"

Ace was no coward, but she tried to avoid conflict when possible-- especially against much stronger opponents. Mentally reciting a short prayer in her head, she pried the corpse off of her sword and bolted to the right, toward the caravan. She noted a snowdrift tucked into the shadows of the cliffs beside her; a quick plunge would clean most of the blood from the blade. Unfortunately, her sword hit a rock, or maybe a chunk of ice. Whatever it was, the shock unbalanced her and she fell, rolling toward the swordsmen.

Recovering into a crouch, Ace sheathed her sword with slightly wounded pride before scrambling toward the others. Her hair, which had been roughly tied, now fell haphazardly about her head, just concealing the 'unpleasant' side of her face. Ultimately, she presented an image of a bedraggled drifter, one that had spent the last week living outside without changing her attire.

She greeted Joshua and Ziaram with an incredulous look, wondering why in the hell they weren't retreating to safety, or at the very least some kind of strategic position.

"It's a decent plan, except for the fact that you want me to fight what looks to be a family of wyverns on my own. Not a fan of that part." Joshua looked down at the woman who they had stopped to rescue and smiled softly. "Hey you should go find somewhere to hide. We got this." Joshua didn't bother questioning why this woman was here. It was more fun guessing sometimes.

"Hey, Sephas! We have to make sure they don't go ahead and go for the easy prey of the carriage, right? What say we surprise the lizards. When I give the signal, lift Ziaram and I into the air on platforms up to the wyverns with your magic. Ziaram, follow my lead!"

The swordsmaster was off then, running low and fast through the path. None of the wyverns gave him more then a passing glance. They'd rather have the big defenseless meal that was the carriage. Besides Joshua was all the way down there; what was he going to do? They were about to find out, taking position so one of the bigger beasts would have to fly over him. The swordsmaster got on one knee in order to brace himself for the coming rush of momentum. With his "All-in grin," he drew his sword.

The plan was risky, but sometimes you had to roll the dice. He pointed his weapon straight up and braced his arm for the coming impact. Joshua was about to become a human spear.

"Now!" His voice echoed as the moment to strike presented itself.

(( I will also use Red for the Wyverns. :P ))

"Wh-what?!?" Sephas shouted, trying to keep his nerves with his comrade's insane idea. Catapult him into the air so he can fight enemies that fly? Well, it seemed about as good as any other idea! So, at the moment of Joshua's demand, Sephas chanted a simple Earth spell.

A pillar of stone rose from the ground, and... well, it didn't have quite the effect that Joshua wanted. It sent the Myrmidon into the air, yes, but nowhere near as far as he would have liked, surely. It was probably somewhere around... maybe seven feet into the air.

However, the timing was good enough that Joshua's sword had made some headway and punctured the lead wyvern's left thigh. It screeched and, amidst its midair writhing, managed to grab Joshua's other arm with one of its own. This wyvern simply hovered there for a moment, while the other two went ahead to deal with the pests on the ground.

One of the wyverns flew directly towards Ziaram, not giving him much time, if any, to recover if he was watching Joshua get shot into the air. It angled itself so that its talons were aimed right for this Myrmidon's chest. Assuming the man managed to block those, the Wyvern still had its maw and its claws, also.

The other flew directly for Ace. This one slowed down upon getting close to the woman and, though it approached in the same manner as the one that attacked Ziaram, this one swung its tail upwards towards Ace, flying in a small loop before coming back and rushing towards the woman, claws extended.

Sephas was absolutely terrified. Joshua's plan was turning into a disaster, and the wyverns were attacking everyone but him! He had to do something, or else one of them could end up hurt, or worse, dead!

He took a few steps back, looking around at each of the three battles. Ziaram had a Light Brand, so he could likely handle himself. Joshua was in the air, but he did have his sword stuck in that Wyvern's leg. This traveler, however, he didn't know anything about her, or her capabilities, aside from the fact that she used a sword. So, he did the incantation for the earth spell again, and conjured another pillar of stone, this time coming up right into Ace's wyvern's face as it was beginning to rush towards her after its loop. The wyvern impacted against the stone, easily breaking the pillar into multiple smaller pieces, but it was stopped in its tracks, and sounded like it was catching its breath.

"There's your chance!" he shouted at Ace, not really caring if she wanted to handle that herself or not. The mage assumed the wyvern was as good as dead, and simply focused his sights on the other two. All he needed was an opportunity...

(( Ace, Sephas did not kill the wyvern that was rushing towards you. He only stopped its movement, and is either underestimating its endurance or is expecting her to kill it.

Nommy, I didn't do too much to give you a good bit of wiggle room. I think you'll be fine. :3

Joshie, as brilliant as your idea was, I had to do this to you. Think of it this way: that fall could break your legs, possibly, and at least with this, he can descend slower or something. :3 ))

Ace rolled out of the way of the sweeping tail, cursing her derelict state as well as Joshua for attracting the dragon's attention. They might've gone for the body if we'd stayed quiet and hidden--could've gotten time to prepare--hell, if he'd wanted me to hide he should've waited so that I could! She set her jaw, supressing her anger in favor of focus as she armed herself.

She gauged the dragon's size as it turned about in the air, grimly noting its size advantage. She prepped to move, hoping to strike its outreaching mitts and avoid the grasp's death sentence--when the stone pillar rose up and smacked the wyvern in the face.

Ace sent a wide-eyed look toward Sephas as rocks fell around her. all thankfully missing, then tuned back to the dragon. It was sloppily perched on the remains of the pillar, stunned by the impact. It's head lolled forward with unfocused eyes and drooping jaw, but every second it seemed to pull itself more together...

So Ace ran forward and stabbed her sword downward into its eyeball, using her weight to drive it in as far as possible.

User ImageSo Joshua chose to use a different plan of his own...it was only a bit effective, but Ziaram still had his own plan that would work. He didn't pay much attention, as he didn't plan to go through with that plan. He needed to keep his focus on the wyverns coming around.

Sure enough, one started to come for him. The good part about magic is that you get ranged attacks, and this was exactly the idea Ziaram was going at. Sephas and himself could attack the wyverns from a range.

So going on with the plan that he came up with, he rose his Light Brand and rained magic on the wyvern as it was coming down, then went off to his left side, and continued raining magic down on the wyvern, least till it fell to its death. This shows how his plans can work out. Time to focus on other things...

To see that the new person was going for another wyvern, and stabbing the eye. By the looks of things, the beast was good as dead, but just to be safe, Ziaram rose his Light Brand, once getting closer to Ace, and sent down light magic upon the beast, to help ensure that it died. "Well, that makes short work on these two...now all we need to do is help out our other ally."

((There Rei-face, I posted. Besides, I should have told you, but I didn't before due to other things...I was at band camp. Just letting you know...a little too late now razz But thanks for making things a bit easy for me...hope I didn't fail badly.))

Ace's eyes widened as the earth around her began to shake and spears of light descended. The explosion of energy striking the dragon resonated up her arm from the sword, and the shock wave of the blast at close range sent her flying back a few paces. She landed on her rear, dazed, her sword still sunk into the wyvern's eye socket.

Well this was rot, Sephas had misunderstood his plan. Joshua didn't want to be catapulted into the air, but lifted up quickly so the momentum would drive his sword through the beast.

Still the end result was mostly the same as he had hoped... apart from the fact that the accursed thong had his other arm. Ripping his sword from the leg it was impaled in elicited another shriek of pain from the wyverns mouth.

"Didn't like that eh? Try this!" Joshua swung his sword at the wyvern's other leg now forcing it to drop him back on the platform.

Then he waited for something to happen because PS3 is annoying

Ace's wyvern died. Painfully. Ziaram's uses of his Light Brand on the two wyverns caused them to, more or less, explode. The one that Ziaram attacked first nearly exploded in midair, showering blood and guts and nastiness all around the myrmidon. When Ziaram overkilled the other wyvern that had a sword going through its eye and into its skull, that one also exploded, likely all over Ace and quite close to Ziaram as well.

Joshua's wyvern simply thrashed around a bit in the air, as it had been stabbed in both legs. As it drizzled blood all over Joshua as he stood on the pillar, since wyverns are stupidish, at least these ones, it flailed around a bit more before being overcome by the pain and simply falling down straight towards Joshua as he stood atop the pillar. Whether the man jumped down or not was irrelevant, as he would likely be unable to avoid the dying body of the wyvern as it became sprawled out on the ground amidst the wreckage of the stone pillar that shot the swordmaster into the air.

Oh and all this blood, just because I feel like being mean, is going to be slightly acidic and burn a bit after a few minutes of increasingly annoying itching. The burns are not severe. Wyverns tend to have poisoning abilities in most fantasy media, so that's where that is coming from, if not loosely. Have fun!

Ace had only enough time to close her eyes and turn her face away before the shower of gore hit her.

...Eeeugh.

Her entire front was drenched with the dragon's ocher, and lumps of meat dripped off her chest and into her lap. Ace blinked her eyes open, wincing at the taste of iron that had crept into her mouth, and stared at the long stake of bone lodged in the ground not a meter away. It must have been part of the jawbone, as it was about the length of her sword. And if I had been sitting just a bit closer...

Moving slowly, Ace stood and collected her sword. It was a deliberate slowness, a trained reaction to slow her thoughts and control her rage. They were probably mercenaries, untrained and unaccustomed to planned battles and teamwork--probably inexperienced--cocky and stupid--probably killed as many allies as they saved with that behavior--thank god they weren't in her army because if they pulled that kind of s**t--have them stripped and whipped, hang them from their feet, smash their heads in with the butt of her sword and RRRAAAAAAAGH.

So Ace trudged toward Ziaram, not knowing that he was the spellcaster in question but not in much better spirits for it.

...Why is my face feeling itchy?

User ImageWell, the explosions weren't so bad. The blood, on the other hand, was. His wyvern had chosen a good time to explode RIGHT in front of him, so that blood went all over him. Talk about a good way to finish an enemy off. This blood reacted a bit after the time that he finished off Ace's wyvern.

GAHH! DAMN! THAT BURNS! Why the hell did I do this? I should have known better...oh well the deed is done. Time for the consequences.

Oh yeah, and not to mention the fact that now they somewhat had a nice supply of wyvern meat, all they would have to do was clean it. Oh yeah, and did I mention how these burns were being annoying? It didn't help that he got a second dosage of blood to land on him.

He turned his head towards the geomancer. "Hey Sephas, do you have any idea how long wyvern blood affects someone? These burns, and itches are going to be annoying if they stay around for the journey." Ask a magical question to the mage of the group.

The sounds of footsteps near him made him turn his head towards Ace. "So, what brings you to this area anyways?"
