Nathan nodded, watching as Booder went to investigate this new person. He was friendly, as far as hamsters went, and allowed people to hold him. He didn't run off and he didn't bite, as Nathan had learned. He kind of just sat there, when he wasn't running in his wheel, and he liked to be near people and be stroked. It was a little needy for attention sometimes, and Nate imagined that was being Tony spent a lot of time with the little animal.
Probably didn't really have any other friends.
"His name is Booder," Nathan said, shaking his head. He had to ask around for that one, and eventually the landlady told him. Apparently they had been introduced before, and she loved Tony and his hamster. She didn't seem to distrust Nathan, and when he said he was Tony's son the old woman was quick to believe him.
He grinned, heading to the kitchen part. He could still easily talk to her from there. "It's okay," he said, opening the freezer and taking out two dinners. "I don't think Tony'd like his kitchen blown up or burned down, either, so we'll just keep you in the living room and I'll handle the cooking. Er. Microwaving."
He put one in and got it going, heading back into the living room. He looked down at Booder, who was sniffing at Angela eagerly. "You can take him out of the cage if you want. He never goes anywhere."
He sat down on the couch, turning on the TV and browsing the channels. At least Tony had a nice TV. He was trying to find something scary, going slow so she could read through as well.

"I'm sorry that I can't assist you in such a horrible task," she told him, offering a mock sigh before returning her attention to the hamster. It didn't seem like it had any intention of biting her, so Angela put a finger through the bars of the cage and stroked the animal's fur, "He seems sweet enough," she'd been about ready to do as Nathan had told her she could, when there came a loud knocking sound from one of the nearby windows. The rapping sound was repeated and the girl turned to find the large black raven, hitting it's beak on the glass, obviously wanting to be let in.
"I told you he was smart," she blinked and looked over at Nathan, "Would you mind if I let him in? I'm pretty sure he won't make a mess of things," not more of a mess than they already were anyhow, "I don't think he likes rain all that much," and on second thought... she would leave the hamster in it's cage. Just in case.
Walking over to the window, she waited for the boy's confirmation to open it, pausing, "What is this, by the way?" it was asked out of the blue, following her earlier train of thought, but she couldn't help but feel curious over it, "This as in.... this," she signaled around the room and then specifically to both of them, "How would you call this? I was trying to figure it out earlier. An outing? A ... hanging out...uhm... ing?" or something else entirely?

Nathan nodded, "sure, let him in. As long as he doesn't eat Booder. I'm pretty sure Tony will be pissed at me if I let that happen, though I wouldn't be upset with it." He laughed, having suggested earlier to feed the hamster to the bird. He couldn't really do it, though.
When she asked what 'this' was he had to stare at her for a long moment, until she stammered out what she was talking about. He seemed to understand, and then shook his head and offered her a shrug.
"I guess we're just hanging out? Do you need a name for it? We could call it a date if you want. I am making you dinner," he grinned teasingly. 'Making' was hardly the right word for it. 'Heating up' was more accurate, since it was already made.
He stood when the microwave dinged, going over to heat up the other one and let the one that had finished stand so it wasn't burning hot. He brought it over with a board, so she didn't burn herself with it or something, and a knife and fork. "Here, you can have this one. Mine's almost ready."
He sat down again, settling on a gory, psychological movie for them to watch.

To her credit, she actually waited for him to give her the go before opening the window to let the bird inside. The raven, for his part, hooped inside as soon as it was able to, taking a perch on the girl's shoulder as it shook itself off, riding himself of the excess the water as it fluffed out. After closing the window, Angela turned to find Nate staring at her. She was well aware her question had been strange, but in her defense, she had a perfect, logical reason for asking; she wanted to know what to text her parents.
She was not really in the habit of lying to them (... and boy was it hard to maintain secrets from them), so she wanted to know what to call this. However, his words made a strange sort of sense, and the girl tilted her head to the side, "A date?" well, that worked. Even if it uhm... didn't really feel too much like one. Not that she was complaining for she'd never quite liked the date scenes she'd seen in movies and found them to be particularly dull. After all, whom wanted to go have dinner in a fancy restaurant while wearing uncomfortable clothes when you could, instead, go ride a rollercoaster, or just simply have a movie marathon with popcorn and-- okay yeah, if this was a date, it was a lot better than those movie scenes, she decided, "I can live with that. I never liked those fancy restaurants in films anyhow," she seemed pleased, and it was hard to tell if she was teasing back, or actually being serious. She then took the moment to go over to her violin case, opening it up to pull a mobile phone.
Pressing the numbers, she texted a message over to her parents; no doubt telling them she was out and would not require dinner that night. She finished right as he was coming back with her tray, and she promptly put the phone away before settling on the sofa. With one hand, she shooed the raven off so that it was perched on the sofa, and it voiced it's displeasure with being budged from the warms of her shoulder. She made herself comfortable, and turned her attention to the TV, "This is good," she meant the good... TV and company actually, but he could take his pick.

Nate grinned, nodding his agreement. While he was sure those fancy scenes worked for some people, maybe people like his dad, he wasn't much for restaurants or fancy things. He was, more or less, a punk kid who would just get funny looks if he tried to take anyone on a proper date any way. Chances were good the waiters would think he was there to steal the silverware.
And to spite them, he would probably do just that.
When his food finished he came over and sat on the other end of the sofa, not too near, suddenly deciding he would try and be polite. Kind of. He still slouched and put his feet up on Tony's coffee table, knocking Booder's cage, though it didn't go anywhere. It just rattled, and the hamster looked irritated at the boy that had been taking care of it recently. Where was Tony, anyway?
Nate had also brought over some drinks, sodas from the fridge, though he didn't know if she liked them. He offered one to her, opening his and drinking from it before looking at the movie as it started. They had gotten home right on time it seemed.
"Oh, hey there Edgar," he said, noticing the bird. He didn't have any food he thought the bird would like, so he didn't offer, "I hope you don't poop in here. I'm not cleaning it up." He grinned at Angela, implying that she would have to if the bird did.
The movie started rolling and Nathan relaxed, scooting a bit closer so he could see better. Or so he told himself. This was very nice, he decided. Good company, 'good' movie, good food. He could get used to this.

Her gaze flew up to the raven as Nate spoke, and she stared at the bird for one long, awkward moment. Edgar, for his part, seemed to fluff up, looking almost offended by such a horrible, horrible claim, then turned his attention off elsewhere; the hamster that sat on the table was much more interesting that the humans, at this point.
"I... would hope not," she eyed the boy next to her sheepishly, as if to say that yes, she would in fact clean up after the bird if push came to shove, which she pretty much hope if did not. In all honesty, she hadn't thought of that. In her defense, she usually left her window open, though now it did not seem to be a possibility. He grabbed one of the sodas he offered and leaned back against the sofa, turning her attention to the movie.
She started off more interested in the food than she did the film, but soon enough it became obvious that the longer the film played forth, the more Angela was getting into it. Her food, now mostly finished, was forgotten on the tray which she'd placed on the table, and she had scooted closer to him on instinct; it was probably more amusing to watch her than the movie itself. She jumped on certain scenes, and in a certain one, went so far as to grab his arm. But then again, to her credit, she made no sounds beyond a sharp intake of breath and never tore her gaze away from the TV. It was indeed like a train wreck of some sort - the film (as corny as it was in some place) was managing to scare her, and yet she seemed entirely into it.
The only 'downside' was that she was that she was using him a bit like a human pillow.

Nathan was watching the movie quietly, grinning at how stupid it was. But his attention was drawn when he felt Angela grab his arm. He looked at her, surprised, about to ask if she had been lying when she said she liked scary movies. But he saw her face, and the way she was enjoying herself, so he smirked and let her hold on to him, not minding.
Of course, her gripping him made him feel a bit more anxious, and he was sure it had nothing to do with the movie itself.
He told himself not to think about it, though, and soon enough he was watching the movie again, only sometimes glancing at Angela when he thought she might get scared, because her reactions were amusing. He couldn't help himself. At one point, when the tension in the film was mounting, he jostled her by the shoulder just to scare her.
After making sure both trays and drinks were safely out of spilling range, of course.

It wasn't that she was exactly scared of the movie. Not so much scared as completely into it, and it didn't seem to matter that the plot was ridiculous, or that there was no way on earth any of it could ever happen. Once a film had her attention, she was sucked into it, and even B movies could manage that, which was... a bit of a stretch.
Angela was probably a film maker's dream come true as afar as audience went; she felt exactly what the movie wanted her to feel, exactly at the moments the film wanted her to feel them at. This meant that she actually enjoyed herself thoroughly throughout even the lamest of movies.
Of course, that meant that when he jostled her by the shoulder just as the tension was mounting, the girl actually jumped; she'd been so utterly caught up in the action of the film that she had blocked out her surroundings, and not only did she not see him move until it was too late, but it elicited a rather amusing reaction out of her. She squeaked comically after jumping, snapping her attention over to him, "Damnit!" it wasn't really a curse, but it was probably as far as Angela got to one, "Damniiiiiit," it was clear that she was more embarrassed over having been caught offguard than actually upset at him, "God, don't do that!"
Edgar decided to take that moment to sneak his head head beside the girl's ear, from behind and 'cawed' , eliciting yet another jump from the girl, this time straight into the boy's arms, more due to the adrenaline rush from before than anything. That, coupled with the fact the bird had pretty much yelled into her ear and she hadn't been expecting it... had caused her to startle; in her defense, she was a tad hyper aware of her surroundings now.
The bird in question blinked lazily from his perch and watched them innocently.

Nathan laughed at her reaction, grinning broadly at her. He shook his head, laughing openly, though he wasn't mocking her so much as just enjoying her hilarious reaction to him startling her. That had worked out just as well as he had wanted! Better, even: he hadn't thought she would jump so much.
"Sorry, I slipped!" he laughed, shaking his head. Of course, that made no sense, because he had clearly taken hold of her and shook her to scare her, but it didn't matter to him. He grinned broadly, stifling his laughter for a moment. Or trying to anyway.
When she ended up in his arms he was laughing even harder, though he had been surprised by the caw as well. He could hide that, though, in reacting to Angela clinging to him. His laughter subsided and he looked at her, smiling. This was the most fun he had been able to have in a while, he noted, and it wasn't even his usual fun. He wasn't out hassling anyone, or vandalizing something. He was just hanging out, watching a movie.
But it wasn't really what he was doing, so much as who was with him. He grinned at her, patting her arm reassuringly.
"Don't worry, I'm not sure the bird will try anything. And if he does, we can take him." He didn't seem to be embarrassed by the proximity, though there was a little new color in his face, and he didn't need to speak very loud.

"You slipped? That is a horrible excuse. Don't use that excuse if a life or death situation, ever. It won't fly," not that it really even seemed to matter anymore, seeing as how she had relocated and was was now in his arms. The current situation was taking on way more importance than the fact he'd startled her earlier.
What was more interesting to note (from her perspective at least), was that she was not entirely adverse to the situation on a whole. Granted, she was mildly embarrassed that she'd been caught off-guard not once, but twice, but all in all, she wasn't actually upset, and she was idly wondering if perhaps that was a bad idea. Something in the back of her mind told her that honestly, she shouldn't really be associating with someone that apparently caused trouble, or at the very least... paint-balled windows.
Another part of her was telling her that there was no harm in enjoying herself, and that really, he wasn't that bad. He was much nicer than he tried to let on. That aside, what harm was there in any of this? He was actually laughing, and that didn't seem like a bad thing to her; he wasn't even making fun of her so much as actually having a good time. When, exactly, was the last time she'd had a good time? A real, honest to God good time? Angela found she couldn't really recall, and that despite everything, the previous night was the nearest she'd gotten to a good time since forever and a day.
"I'm sorry," she told him as she turned her head to offer the bird a small glare; the bird in question simply blinked back innocently at her, cawing softly, "Thank you for catching me," when she turned her head back to him, she was starting to realise just how close he was, "I don't know. I think he's a demon in disguise, Nate. And he can fly. I'm not too sure we'd win," okay, see, now the movie wasn't entirely one hundred percent as interesting as it'd been moments ago. This seemed to be just a touch more interesting.

Nathan grinned, knowing full well that his defense was the most see through one possible. Maybe he didn't want her to believe him. He certainly could have tried harder on that one. In any case, he just grinned at her teasingly, very amused, making note to keep that reaction in his head because he didn't have a camera to record it.
Next time he would have to be prepared.
He hoped there would be a next time, anyway. Why not? They were both having fun now, and it was going so well. He didn't see the harm in trying to keep this friend. It didn't feel like it would be work, and he had incentive. If only he were more practiced with this whole thing. He wasn't used to being nice, often taking advantage of a situation.
And he found he didn't want to do the latter. Just the former.
"Of course! You might have fallen a devastating three inches off this couch, and I couldn't have that," he shook his head, eying the bird, "that's true. He could be some kind of monster under those innocent feathers. We'll have to be careful from now on. If you just stick with me, we'll be fine." He nodded, sure he could 'protect her' from the 'monster' that was her own pet bird.
He grinned, arm around her. They were very close, weren't they? But he made no effort to move, and if she didn't want to he would certainly be glad. He could admire her face from this distance, and he managed to keep his eyes there, on her face or her own eyes, instead of day tripping down to her chest as his impulse told him to.
So maybe he could be nice when he wanted to be. Kind of.

"I'm pretty sure it's more than three inches," in all honesty though, it wasn't so much the height as it was the fact that actually falling off the couch would have been horribly embarrassing. More so than actually getting caught off-guard twice (she was going to have to work on the whole... keeping an eye out on her surroundings next time she watched a movie). The bird watched them both, turning his head this way and that, almost as if on queue to Nate's words, looking for all he was worth like an innocent creature. It cawed softly and then turned his attention away from the silly humans to groom his feathers; it had apparently decided that now that they were still again, they were boring, and thus, that meant that grooming was a much more interesting task.
It was rather hard for her to feel self conscious, embarrassed or out of place when he was managing to joke around as if nothing were wrong. That, and his smiling was horribly contagious; he had the inkling of a notion that it might be because they were, in fact, rather close, but she couldn't help herself from grinning back at him, "You're going to protect me? Does that make you a knight in shinning armor? Minus the armor. And sword. Though I guess the paint ball gun could double for a weapon in that case," yeah, uh... definitively really close.
Really, really close, and she had no idea what to do. Should she move? Should she stay? She wasn't sure which would offend him, the former or the later, and she idly found herself wishing she had some sort of manual she could read up on, just so she could figure out what the hell she was supposed to do. In a bind, she chose to go with instinct (mostly because she was rather used to trusting it), and simply stayed put; in all honesty, she was actually enjoying this more than the movie, for some odd reason, and she found she actually... even liked this, awkwardness aside. which was prooooobably dangerous ground right there, "At any rate, I think it got bored of us, so that probably means we're safe," a pause followed, "I really like your eyes," another pause, "Actually, I kind of like you."
Yeah. Apparently she still liked him; her opinion of him had only gotten better from last night. Oh boy.

Nathan nodded. He'd fight off a monster bird with his paint ball gun if it was needed, but it didn't look like they were in trouble right now. He'd have to keep an eye on that raven, though, just in case.
He grinned again, shaking his head. Maybe it was being silly, but that was fine. He liked it. He liked her. Did she just say she liked him?
He looked at her, wondering if she was kidding, then smiled.
"My eyes are boring. Yours are pretty though. I like... this. Sitting here and being able to just... relax. You're pretty cool. And. Uh. Pretty." Boy, he was saying that a lot. He frowned, hoping he didn't always act this stupid when he was nervous. How embarrassing and useless! He was supposed to be confident.
"Uh, so, look. Usually I don't... I don't ask but I thought, since we're having a good time and, uh, I don't want to ruin it... I mean, feel free to say no, but I was... uh... wondering... if... I could kiss you... or something. I dunno. I mean. You know." He was trying to play it off as cool.
And failing miserably.

"No they're not. I'm pretty sure I would know if they were, since they're... right there," yeah just... right there, damnit, this was kind of awkward, "This?" she blinked as he continued, and soon enough concluded that yes, she was enjoying 'this' too, and that notion was making her feel quite a bit better, seeing as how she felt she'd been taking a gamble when she'd decided to stay put instead of pulling away, "I like this too," she nodded, as if it really did need voicing, "Which was... why I stayed," apparently, blunt seemed to work in some cases, for which she was distinctly glad, "I was taking a gamble. I wasn't sure if I should move, or stay and... I'm rambling. I'm new to this."
All of this. Whatever 'this' was.
"Cool is not the word I'd have used; I startled. Twice. In a row. I think the word you're looking for is awkward," but maybe it was a good sort of awkward? She wasn't entirely sure. Not to mention that had Angela been sure of anything at all, it would have all been tossed out of the window two minutes later, because out of any possible amount of outcomes, the idea of him asking her if he could kiss her was not amongst them. It caught her entirely by surprised, and she blinked at him, completely at a loss for words.
It took her a moment to kick start her brain again, but when she managed, she offered him a bit of a smile, "You know, it makes me feel quite a lot better to know I wasn't the only one on that wavelength. I was starting to feel a bit ridiculous," she closed the distance and allowed her forehead to land on his softly, "Yes you may. Thank you for asking."

Nathan was glad to hear she was liking 'this' too. It would have been very awkward if he was keeping her there against her will. But no, it was okay, she wanted to be there and had stayed on purpose. Good. That was one worry off his mind, at least. He nodded slowly, chuckling.
"Well. Awkward can be cool..." he certainly hoped so, anyway, or he was doomed. Because he was certainly acting like a good around her. He liked it, though, since it was new. He hadn't been this way around anyone before. At least it was interesting, if not a bit vexing and maybe intimidating if Nate was the kind of guy to admit when he was scared.
Her long pause made him think he had asked the wrong thing. He was about to say he was kidding, or he had phrased that wrong, or he had slipped somehow, but she spoke and he felt his anxiety ebb. He closed his eyes for a moment as she leaned closer, smirking as her forehead touched his.
With her consent in his ear, he opened his eyes so he could go and kiss her, without bumping her nose with his or something. He found her lips without any trouble, closing his eyes again as he gently kissed her.
He as very glad he had asked.
