(( There was a reason why there was an unnarrated cut as Coren and Thelios made their escape - I too have NO IDEA how they managed to lose the guards for that long. XD ))

Coren would have stayed at the door, staring dumbfoundedly had Thelios not ushered him back into the hallway and away from the door.

When the phoenix tells you to move, you move.

Coren frowned slightly, in thought. A phoenix? he asked Thelios, eyes on the bird now in the hallway with them, guarding a flame.

Fire bird. Usually bigger than this. Very dangerous.

I don't see what's so dangerous about-

At this point, the small flame the phoenix was carrying in the hallway turned into a giant fireball, searing some approaching guards before either of them could do anything.

Oh.

Yes. Fire bird, very dangerous. Thelios reiterated with a grin.

As if to emphasize the point even further, there was a very loud explosion from the room they were just in. Thelios dodged in front of Corn as he ducked. Some of the wall on their side crumbled a bit, as water started gushing through the door into the hallway. After exchanging glances, they followed 'the bird' into the room, where they saw the young man kneeling in the water, looking exhausted. Debris was all around, and there was a giant hole in the ceiling.

"Let's go! Will one of you please grab the boy?" the phoenix asked.

Thelios walked over and hoisted up Isaac, so the boy's head and shoulders were over his shoulder. He turned to head out the door, but Coren shooed him away.

Up. We go up.

Then what are you doing over there?

Making a barricade.

Coren was almost done making one too - quite a bit of rubble had escaped to the hallway, perhaps due to the water. He merely grabbed the door and wedged in the hallway at a diagonal. It would only let one or two pass, if that, until they took it down. If they could take it down - Coren felt that it was wedged pretty good.

He then hurried back inside the room, where Thelios was waiting, and proceeded to work his way up into the room above. Making sure that his footing was good, he reached down and helped Thelios up out of the watery room, with both the phoenix and other boy in tow.

They both looked around. The room was large, but empty, full of beds on the far side. But it wouldn't be empty for long.

Which way? Coren asked.

I wouldn't know. But the phoenix might have an idea or two Thelios told Coren, wryly.

Coren grimaced slightly, and then turned his attention to the bird. "You know which way we should go?" he asked, his physical voice incredibly low and raspy. He hated talking as a Minotaur, but it seemed silly to transform right now.

||This post is mostly filler... ^_^' It's up to you guys if Faraday & Axis find your room.||

Axis and Faraday flew side by side, Faraday transforming into a chimera as she rode the thermals. The act caused her to falter in the air for a moment, but she continued on unperturbed. She was used to transformations in midflight.

the noise seems to be coming from the southern part of the fortress, Axis observed, ears swiveling as he eyed the castle that was quickly looming over them. Faraday gave a terse nod; she was not interested in the where, just get in there, help out, then get the hell out. Axis rolled his eyes before tilting his wings to bank toward the castle. After a moment's hesitation, Faraday followed.

The two chimeras landed lightly on the ground, their landing thumps muffled by the long stalks of green grass. Axis prowled around the wall, though Faraday hung back uncertainly, suspicious of the fact that no alchemists rushed out to attack them.

they seem to be concentrating on whoever's trying to escape.

Someone big, by the sound, Faraday replied. She stretched up so that she rested her forepaws on the wall and her strong haunches and wings held her up and balanced her stocky body. Faraday began to push with all her might, trying to break a hole in the solid stone wall. While she wasn't as strong as Axis, she possessed the strength of more than a handful of oxen. Still, the rock wall gave her some trouble.

Axis watched her for a moment before joining her at the wall, his stance mirroring hers. Though much smaller than Faraday, Axis was much stronger, and their combined strength caused the wall to tremble before collapsing inward. Their paws quickly widened the gap and both peered inside, seeking whatever was making the ruckus.

(Sorry for the delay. Also, the plural of minotaur... Would you tack on the 's' or would it be like deer? Where the singular and plural are the same?)

As Thelios picked up Isaac, Hikicter bounced to the boy's waist so he wasn't thrown over the minotaur's shoulder too. "Excellent idea there with the barricade. Now... We're going to have to hurry..." Hikicter announced as he glared around the room. He only hoped that these minotaur were relatively kind, or at least not very intelligent. Sooner or later they would realize that from here on, Isaac was dead weight and Hikicter would only be shoulder mounted and unable to fly.

As Hikicter tried to recall what he remembered of his time in the fortress he suddenly perked his head up. He heard a noise, it was faint, but it sounded like stone falling. The strange part was that it didn't come from a lower level, it was actually probably a few rooms down. "In any case, we cannot stay here. Move that way," Hikicter ordered, indicating the direction with his beak. "Look for a window of any kind. We have to be sure we aren't going to bust through just to fall down a cliff." Hikicter was scheming. If the minotaur(s) didn't hear the same sound he had, then he could keep their minds off of it and keep them focused on navigating. Another added perk would be that once they hit the hall, there would probably be a few torches lit to make sure the guards and alchemists could maneuver with little issue. The alchemists hadn't imagined that Isaac and Hikicter would make it above the basement level.

With any luck, Hikicter could identify the source of the noise before they got too far away. "Please be sure to check every room as we go by. If nothing else, we could find something useful."

((Honestly... I'm not sure what to do with my characters! crying ... well, here goes nothin))

Ciara came to a halting stop in front of the building, almost throwing Rosalind off her back. Quickly, Rosalind jumped from her companions back, and landed delicately on the ground. The Chimera's had arrived first, and both watched as they forced the walls to fall in. Nether of the two kelpie girls had such strength, and while Ciara envied the raw power, Rosalind couldn't help but feel a slight amount of fear.

The noise in the building was loud, and the kelpie shook her head.

Someone's taking some initiative. she told Rosalind, whinnying.

the Girl glared at her companion "Not Funny Ciara." she said aloud. "Maybe we should try and help them, and not stand out here like idiots."

As Strange As It Sounds

(( I don't really know what the plural of minotaur would be (as in greek mythology, there was only one!) I would guess it's like deer, and therefore would be minotaur. XD Also, I think that the group outside can find us. That'd be cool. I'll leave it a bit short so Kyground can have more time to react, what with me dragging his characters around. ))

Coren led the way as the two of them - and their 'cargo' - quickly made their way to the far end of the guard room, where the phoenix suggested they go.

Did you hear that? Thelios asked when they got to the door.

Hear what, Coren replied, thoroughly distracted by sneaking through the door. It lead to another empty part of the barracks, containing even more beds. A quick check of the wall showed no windows. Light filtered through the room behind them and the door ahead.

Thelios gently repositioned his burden. Sounded like... digging? His ears flicked about, listening intently for the sound.

I don't think we have time to search it out right now... Coren warned as they jogged through the second empty barracks to the far door. Coren opened it, to find yet another abandoned room. It had quite a few tables in it - but more importantly, a few horizontally slit windows near the ceiling.

Shut the door behind us. I'll look out the windows, Coren told Thelios. He ran over to the windows, moving a table over to stand on to get a better view outside (the slits were annoyingly small).

Thelios shut the door, still preoccupied with the sound that seemed to be coming from just beyond the room they were in. Maybe a little further.

||Thanks for posting, guys. :]||

The chimeras peered inside the dark room, eyes quickly roving over the empty niches and corners, though the search proved fruitless. Whatever had been making all that noise seemed to have halted for the moment, as if listening, and whatever it was was not in here. But this did not deter the two, and they soon enlarged the hole enough for the two to slip through, though not at the same time. Axis crawled through first, his smaller frame easily passing through the gaping hole. Faraday, however, was not as successful, and only managed the feat with many curses and scrapes. She landed on the floor next to Axis, sides and belly and back and wings scratched mightily from the stone, drops of blood spattering on the floor.

Faraday shook herself, sending blood flying everywhere, and peered out of the hole at the two Kelpies.

"Are you coming?" Faraday asked mildly. She might as well have asked them if they were joining her on a peaceful walk through the forest.

Neither chimera waited for an answer and both slunk towards the door, Axis edging his way to the front. Faraday did not comment, for he was better suited to react to surprises and to attack. Plus, his whole experience and strength and yada yada yada gave him seniority, though Faraday was not always graceful in acknowledging this. Now, however, was not the time to needle him, and she followed his need.

Axis halted at the door, ears to the flimsy door, and listened for movement outside. His extraordinary hearing picked up sounds of stealthy moving, of closing doors and quick feet. Not sounds Alchemists on a chase would make.

He glanced at Faraday, as if for assurance, and she nodded. Axis then proceeded to launch himself through the wooden planks composing the door, deciding to take those on the outside by surprise rather than giving them warning with the creak of an opening door.

(( Short action post, activate! ))

Thelios, his interests piqued by the sounds in the other room that Coren was apparently oblivious to, had crept over halfway to the door when it suddenly burst in. The loud noise startled Coren enough that he fell backwards from his vantage point from the table. Thelios, meanwhile, took a couple steps back from the door, turning sideways to keep the boy and bird on his shoulder farther away from the door shards and the creature who came out of it. (He shrugged off the brief discomfort of Coren crimping his tail when he fell.)

A quick glance showed whoever busted through the door wasn't human, but Thelios didn't spend much time thinking about that at all. They were on the run, so he fully expected some sort of resistance from the alchemists. Therefore, he went into full fight mode and charged the beast in the doorway, leading with his unburdened side. His attack plan was to grab one of the head with hand and hold them all against the wall with his forearm. If that missed, well, his foot could make a follow up kick. That would buy them some time to... to escape somewhere.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 23, 2010 7:51 pm

Just as Axis broke through the door, a huge hand clamped itself around his side head and an even larger forearm thrust the rest of Axis's heads against the wall. Axis hissed in surprise and outrage, and his body writhed as he tried to free himself.

Faraday, on the other hand, let out a shriek like an angry cat, and fully charged whatever was outside that was holding Axis down. She burst through the remaining tatters of the door and landed next to her bonded pair

-her other half-

and snarled at the huge thing that had him pinned. Faraday opened her huge lioness's jaws and slavered poison that dripped from her fangs.

"Let him go, or you die," she snarled, jaws snapping to prove her point. The drops of poison and saliva splattered to the floor, the poison hissing very quietly and bubbling before mixing with the saliva.

Axis, meanwhile, fought to gain purchase on the giant's arms with his claws, his wings beating frantically against the wall and his several heads snapped their maws slightly, their movement impeded by the huge, hairy arm that gripped them against the wall.

(Sweet, thanks.)

Isaac groaned as he started to stir, bobbing up and down as the minotaur walked. There was some pain in his shoulder and lower back that he didn't know what it was from. Trying to push himself up, which was made rather difficult since he was on the minotaur's shoulder, which he had yet to realize. Imagine, his shock when he was suddenly bombarded with bits of wood and then wretched sideways as the minotuar charged. He wanted to puke.

Hikicter on the other hand, was airborne. As the group explored through the halls Hikicter's hopes had been answered, torches. He had snatched up their flames and dried himself and what he could of Isaac. Four small 'orbs' of flame floated around him as he watched what had to be the original minotaur charge whatever was coming through the door. Hikicter had heard the same tell-tale signs that he had, and was prepared, but dared not risk igniting the hairy beast on fire in the midst of a blind attack.

On the other hand, Isaac had no clue what was going on and nearly fell off of his hairy carrier when he pinned the chimera to the wall. Out of instinct Isaac's wings flared, buffeting both the chimera and the minotaur in their faces. He was lucky that the snappy jaws of the chimera weren't timed to bite him then, not that there was much stopping him from biting it on the way back.

"Cease!" Hikicter screeched, following what was one of the loudest predatory bird screeches he could muster. Hikicter recognized the beast as a chimera, and the likelihood that the second was a bonded, Hikicter figured it was more likely they would be friend than foe. Also, he really didn't want to try out those fangs. "Isaac, be still." Hikicter ordered, just in time. Isaac was just starting to bring his talons up, still in a daze he would have sliced the chimera.

Acting quickly, "Stop, all of you. Chimera, are you with the alchemists? Answer truthfully and we will release you. Lunge, and I kill us all." Hikicter proclaimed, the fire spinning slowly around his head now. It was a pain that he had to keep flapping his wings, but to land meant potential death. Distantly, Hikicter and Isaac both could hear the clanking of iron boots on the stone floor. They didn't have much time, and the ridiculously loud noises that they were making would be like a beacon for the alchemists.

If Axis hadn't been so busy snarling with rage as the minotaur continued to pin him against the wall, he would have laughed at their predicament. He was the one who wanted to help these idiots, and here they were, attacking him. But the thought was washed away by his fury, and he continued to claw at the minotaur, his razor-sharp teeth nearly making connection with the phoenix that flew away from the minotaur.

Faraday, on the other hand, was slightly calmer than her bonded, though her anger was obvious by the stiffness of her body and her six malignant, flashing eyes. Her long alligator's tail whipped back and forth, eager to collide with skulls and ribs. However, she turned to the phoenix that had just addressed them. With apparent effort, she bridled her anger and addressed the phoenix calmly, though her voice was laden with warning.

"We're here to help, you fools," Faraday ground out, wings shuffling restlessly with frustration.

(( Thelios - a man, er, minotaur of action. XD ))

Thelios was trying to hold the heads down (a harder task than he had thought it to be, with all the snapping they did, not to mention the boy-phoenix had apparently woken up and was flapping his wings in both their faces), when another beast came in and threatened to bite. Thelios eyed the other chimera; its bite looked very deadly, even past all the feathers. He was considering the threat when the ... 'conversations' took place between the phoenix and the chimeras.

Should I...?

Yes. I don't think they are here to hurt. Coren sounded somewhat reproachful.

Hmph. Well, if they were alchemists... Thelios grumbled, but then released hold on the chimera, swiftly moving back to get himself (and his arm) out of harms way. He then checked on the phoenix's boy, and seeing that he was more or less awake, gently lifted him and set him on the ground next to him. If he still needed assistance, it would be easy enough to pick him up again.

By this time Coren had gotten off the floor and moved up towards the rest of the group, surveying who was there.

He ahemed.

"Sorry about the .... misunderstanding," he rumbled. "But we wouldn't mind any help."

With a snarl of relief, Axis thrust himself away from the wall as the minotaur released him. He set about to shaking himself, trying to rid himself of the feel of those large, hairy hands about his heads. It was disconcerting to be so manhandled, really, for such an ancient, powerful being as he was, but since he'd been shrunk, Axis had found that being manhandled a frequent occurrence.

He joined Faraday near the doorway, and the two chimeras stared down the minotaurs and phoenixes. What a ragtag group.

"the alchemists are coming," Axis said harshly. Faraday looked at him sharply, but soon the sounds of footsteps and yelling drifted down the corridor, confirming his words.

"We need to get out of here, and quickly at that," Faraday added. "Let's go."

As she turned to leave, several alchemists rounded the corner, aiming several different weapons at the bondeds. Several cross bolts fired, and all were aimed at each bonded pair. Axis quickly backed into the doorway, but Faraday was not so fast. The bolt thudded into her shoulder, and she let out a roar at the pain and fury.

"There, was that so hard?" Hikicter chortled as he swooped around. Isaac was stumbling a little when Thelios set him down.

"Th-thank you..." Though his thanks was a little premature. Running on instinct at the moment, he siphoned off some of Hikicter's fire. Hikicter had much more control, but Isaac didn't have to be looking at it, so long as he concentrated.

Hikicter looked at the chimera pair as the alchemists rounded the hall. "You want to help, lead the way. We'll cover the rear." Hikicter and Isaac were doing their best to cover their new allies. Isaac had already been grazed twice, once in the cheek and another in his left wing. Hikicter was in little danger of being hit, though if he was it would be bad. For the moment, arrows and bolts were their only concern, no one would get close while one pheonix was conscious. Jets of fire and small, precise blasts meant that they were both still with it.

(Ewww... Writer's block...)

||I guess that's my cue?||

Still hissing with the pain, Faraday backed into the room and quickly scaled the debris, eager to get out of this place. This bolt in her shoulder was a reminder of why she hadn't wanted to return in the first place, and some hairy oafs and flaming birds weren't really worth it in her opinion.

Axis, on the other hand, was barely containing his excitement as he made his way out. This was exactly why he wanted to come back. They had gained four powerful allies, and Axis could just see their potential as a group. Blood was pouring out of his shoulder, but it was worth it. Besides, this pain was minimal, and Faraday was being a pansy about it.

Catching his thought, Faraday halted in her bid for freedom, turning to snarl at her companion. She made as if to leap at him, but the pain reminded her of her condition and why she needed to get out of there.

"Come on," Faraday snarled at the minotaur and phoenixes. She snaked out of the hole, wondering if the minotaur could fit through.

The alchemists stood near the far end, shooting at them. Apparently phoenixes were a little tricky for them, given the booby trapped room and the fact they weren't rushing in. Thelios was angry that they did not charge in at them; he was looking for a fight now. In fact, he almost did charge in, batting away the arrows coming in his direction, until Coren stopped him.

No - we need to escape. Now. Take the phoenix boy with you.

Coren had been hit by an arrow on his blindside. The wound barely punctured the skin, though, and Thelios didn't realize it had happened until he saw it on Coren. He snorted in acknowledgement, and then, still swatting arrows down, he moved to lead the winged-boy to the other room.

Meanwhile, Coren already had already followed the chimeras, where he saw their handy-work. A hole in the wall, a little small. They were already snaking through them, one of them telling them to come on. Coren bent down and peered through; on the other side was grass, the chimeras, and some weird horse things.

You're not gonna fit through this hole, Coren stated to Thelios, doubtful.

Thelios had gotten inside the room at this point. Well, I think we can change that.

Coren knew what he had in mind.

"You better go through quick," Coren told the phoenix's boy. Through the hole he said, "Everyone, stand back!"

The two minotaur sized up the already partly-broken wall -it was unlikely that they could knock it down if it hadn't already sustained damage - and with a mental countdown, started to charge it.

=Thud-

-Thud-

-Thud-

There was a suspicious rumble as a few stones fell from here and there, and several cracks appeared.

A few more times. Charge there next time.

Thelios nodded.

-Thud-

-Thud-

-Thud KRACKTHOOM-

The wall crumbled before them, while amazingly the ceiling did not fall. The minotaur backed up as a slew of dust went up, and rocks formed a heap where there once was a wall. A gap, larger enough for the minotaur, was now about the pile of rubble.

Let's go! The two of them started to scramble over the rubble to the other's outside.

((Kyground, I assume that Isaac goes through the door, while Hikicter is still guarding them, but I'll leave it up to you as to what actually happens with your characters. Act around this. XD ))
