Way back, when my band first started, we were playing for a school tallent show. All of us got really into it, and I poped the G string, playing finger-pluck bass. The song mainly consisted of the D & G strings, so the song lost all the... bounce, and we had to stop in the middle of the song.

My sympathies go out to you Gregg.

I just heard the tape of my last performance. For the first song, not only could I not hear myself, I was twice the volume OF THE REST OF THE BAND COMBINED!!! On top of that, I botched the solo because I couldn't hear what I was playing. By the last song, I was playing double stops and I couldn't even be heard by the audience. Stupid sound guys..... Grrrr.........

I got one that can top you all. Its really a newbie mistake. Back in 98 (yeah im an old turd) I posted an add saying "guitar player seeking a band". I was playing 3 years at that point, and thought I was good enough to play infront of people.
Well I got a call from a guy saying he needed a guitar player on last notice, just basic chords and what not. Didn't seem like much of a chore, I mean hell I could always fake it. Anyway I get to this place for a practice, and we jammed a bit, and sounded good. Never played any songs all the way through.
The guy that hired us said we were to jam at a bar 2 nights 6 hours each. Well its was sketchy at best. We had 1 practice together, and never even came up with anything.
After 30 minutes of this kid making all sorts of noise of noise alone, i wanted to hide. Then he calls us all up there to play. Well another 15 minutes rolls by and the bar owner pays us 250$ to leave.
Well we left the band and on the way home i get picked up for speeding.
Long horid night... Glad its over, and glad i learned from it.

Where do i begin.. Ok i have 2 stories for you...
When i first started playing electric bass (long time ago), i wasn't really paying attention on the right way to play etc etc.. Anyway, i had seen a bass player pull up his E string really high (what i thought).. However i was wrong because this was a 5 string, wrong string but the trick of the illusion was to loosen the string so much that you could pull it up... Anyway, i had to play a few notes for a performance, and i was waiting around on stage for people to set up and i decided to keep pulling my string.. I was determined to get it up that high... I pulled and pulled and finally it snapped off swung up and got me straight on the side of my eyebrow.. lol.. I had this nice big slash mask on my face, not really bleeding, but it was alittle open... Either way i didn't end up performing lol..
And now this story is half gross.. This happened on wednesday of this week!.. I hadn't played bass for about 4 months, (i got really sick, and then i went overseas so no bass playing for me).. When i got back, i decided to start playing again (as you do) and a friend of mine asked me to play for her in her university piece.. So i said yeah why not.. I was practising the day before and i noticed my left hand was getting blisters on the tips of my fingers because of not playing bass for awhile.. I just let it pass and didn't worry.. The next day i got on stage, started playing, was all good and dandy, my fingers were abit sore but i didn't take any notice of it, and just tried to get through the piece.. Half way through the song i look over at the drummer and the shock horror look on his face was funny enough but i just thought i had jumped into the wrong section... thinking about it for awhile i shook my head, and continued to play.. after about 2 minutes later i looked back at him, trying his hardest to drum and tell me what was wrong, i looked down at my hand to noticed the blister had opened and the string had just been rubbing on raw skin and had started bleeding all over my bass.. Luckly the song was nearly finished, and i covered myself just playing a few open notes... Thats true rock style.. having bleeding fingers lol.. However embarressing cos everyone who was watching had just been watching my fingers bleed all over my bass.. YUUUUUCK!

I suppose you can't call yourself a dedicated player without bleeding on your bass at least once xp (so much blood loss... stressed ). Interesting stories yield... both involved blood so I can't say that I wasn't a bit entertain. xd

Looking at everyone elses, it doesn't seem like mine would be that much more interesting.
I went to play a show at a popular place an hour away from my house. I told my girlfriend and a few friends about the show, most said they wouldn't be able to attend. Just as we head out for the road, my girlfriend and her friend show up running to the van. My g/f explained to me that she had left her backpack in the bandroom with her medication-- bad sign.
We get to the venue and they tell us we've been moved from 1st to 4th (1st would've played at around 8:30; 4th plays at around midnight) so i was pissed. My girlfriend didn't want to leave with a friend before she would get in trouble, so she sat there in the venue, trembling sans medication.
I get up on stage, hoping that at least my set would go well because it was my first real show and we had just been announced on a radio show as the band of the month. I was using my dad's 5-string Cirrus for the show (I had not had my own 'good' bass so he let me borrow his.) Apparently he forgot to tell me that he forgot to replace BOTH batteries in his pickup system, and so we spent just about 45 minutes trying to figure it out. The time cut into our set, and out of the 45-minute set we were supposed to play, we shelled off about only 15 minutes worth. It was pathetic.
Later that night when my g/f called her house to explain, they told her not to come home so she crashed at my house. I took her home in the morning becuase she had a band review, and her parents flipped out and almost called the cops on me.
I know it wasn't mostly about bass playing, but my bass had a large integral role in the entire f***ed-upedness of the situation. stressed

I don't really have any other stories like my pants falling down while i was playing or something.. I am just clumbsy thats all the stories i got.. Falling over, hurting something... But hey i have that amount of bleeding and fall over stories for piano as well... I wouldn't be the musician i am if i hadn't bled all over the instrument at least once lol...
