This reminds me of an idea I had once.
Imagine a RTS game —like Age of Empires, for instance— but set up in the Touhou universe and with the following factions: humans, gods, lesser youkai, tengu, kappa, oni, and phantoms. Lesser youkai would be all the species portrayed among Team ➈, like fairies, night sparrows, nightbugs, and so on; phantoms would be a group of ghosts + evil spirits + poltergeists. The battling grounds could be either parts of Gensokyo or Gensokyo as a whole plus areas such as the Netherworld or Higan.
It'd be freaking awesome. And yes, I know that a game like that already exists... but it's crappy.

Heh, thanks.
The game I was referring to in my other post, Age of Ethanols, has only three factions: Hakugyokurou, the Hakurei Shrine, and the Koumakan manor. It's actually rather entertaining, in fact. I'd post a download link if I had one. sweatdrop

Hmmm.....Koumakan Manor eh?
....I can get behind that. (Random Fairy: Well of course, it's no good being in front of it.)

IMO, melee and danmaku combat, combined or separate, might be a good idea.
Also to Meiling's statement on class, there could be like, "class levels" instead of regular levels, and you could rank each class separately, or even simultaneously.
There's also the problem of "skills", if there is close range and danmaku combat, then there would be splits between each "class"'s tree(s). Unless each skill is carefully made to have two effects, one danmaku, and one "close(r) range" effect.
Or we could just take skills like mabinogi. (Rank up every skill sperately, with no restrictions except, maybe, race.)

How about having it where any class can use any item, but to greater or lesser extents depending on the item? You know, like in Disgaea.

Thanks. In Disgaea, Etna can use ANY weapon, but she's best with the spear. Laharl can use ANY weapon, but he's best with the cliched giant sword, and...

I figured as much. And what's Laharl's deal with Pudding? I was playing Soul Nomad the other day and one of the shopkeepers mentioned a guy asking for an Oven, some Pudding, and something else I can't remember. Once I heard that, I thought about how NIS likes to reference their own games, so I instantly thought of Laharl, because only he could be strange enough to concoct a plan involving those items........aside from yours truly, of course.

There's ONE problem with this theory: Laharl does not concoct plans. He just charges in. But it works, because he's awesome like that.

True, so then it must have been one of Etna's minions asking for those things. She'd be enough of a Wild Card to try someing involving those.
