And there, before everyone, the fight broke out. Azuran paid hardly any attention to the new green that broke out, for she seemed to already be heading toward Hers. Instead he watched with almost a sense of helplessness as the blues continued to fight. There's got to be something we can do! he thought desperately to himself, looking about the grounds and stands for any sort of inspiration. His eyes fell upon Drakell, who was watching the scene agitatedly from the closest spot possible. Could the firelizard possibly divert their attention long enough to end the fight? Drakell! Try to get their attention! he thought desperately to the small flit, unsure if the other would get his unspoken message.

Whether Drakell understood what Azuran wanted or not would remain a mystery, but it was clear that the firelizard was agitated by the scene unfolding below. Eyes whirling red and orange, he let out a violent screech, hissing his agitation at his two much much bigger cousins. Now was not the time to fight! Especially not so near to his master!

There was a heavy hammering of her heart against her chest as she watched the two little blues begin their fight, this was just terrible! What on Pern could have made the two little ones so angry with each other so soon into life, she knew that yelling at the creatures would do no good, they were going to get hurt and maybe even damage some of the other eggs on the sands.

Ashmere stood from her spot, her dirty charcoal covered hand was the last thing on her mind as she stood and watched the dragonets, it was seemingly just at that very moment that she stood that a little green had chosen her rider! Rocking on the heels and balls of her feet the brown haired harper glared at both of the blues, she was actually angry with them and their antics, how could they be so selfish as to fight! Again light tears rushed down her cheeks as she let out a small whispered. "no"

"Oh!" Mercy couldn't help but cry out a little as blues stopped posturing only to start fighting. They were going to hurt each other! and just barely hatched...that couldn't be good at all. Glancing about mercy tried to see if someone was going to stop them - though she had no idea who, certainly not her - she didn't know enough about dragons to even attempt such a thing..but she didn't want them to be injured either and worriedly chewed one of her fingernails.

The sweet pale green had yet to choose her and mercy watched her out of the corner of her eye, nearly jumped as a fourth hatchling made its way on to the sands and after a brief look about ignored everyone before heading towards the boys. Mercy wasn't sure if she planned to fight as well or try to stop them.

The Hatching, the Hatching! It was Soldekai's first, and he scrambled to get everything together. Candidate robe, check it to make sure it's clean and no holes - no, scratch that, FIRST extricate Cress and Quickfire from the Candidate robe, THEN check it, THEN put it on. The twin baby flits squawked and clung to each other, squalling indignantly at being awakened. Soldekai hastily sent a mental apology in their direction, along with a promise of all the meat scraps he could swipe from the kitchen... but after the Hatching!

He managed to reach the Sands just in time, picking a good spot around the middle of the boys, but not too far from the front. Sure, there had been a few grumpy eggs, but on the whole, at the Touching everyone had seemed so friendly! He wasn't at all nervous, despite rumors that occasionally someone would get hurt at a Hatching. Well, if you didn't get out of the way of clumsy claws, that was just how it was! It was like being trod on by a young runnerbeast, it just meant you just had to watch your feet better.

Still... His confidence wavered when the very first two blues to hatch immediately squared off against each other. Wait... Was this supposed to happen? Weren't baby dragons supposed to think of Impression first, then finding food? But these two seemed more wrapped up in a standoff than trying to find their riders...

Well, maybe they'd get it out of the way. It was better not to interfere in struggles for dominance, if his experience with other creatures was of any use. The more you interfered, the more you'd just delay the inevitable. And surely it would be better for them to get their little tussle in now, when their golden mother was watching and both were less likely to get hurt, than later when they were big enough to do real damage.

After Lalaith’s swift choice, Filanth murmured to herself, crooning at the other green as the pair walked off towards the waiting tables. Ooh she’d like those tables…. But Hers. Right. Hers. Where was Hers? Crooning again, the pale green finally thought she saw the proper Candidate – she’d wandered through the boys and meandered to the girls where a certain someone caught her eye. Mine! Were you hiding? Your Filanth was looking for you! Yours is hungry! She ruffled her wings and sneezed, tilting her head towards the feeding tables as she looked up at Tiepet.

Two eggs began to move and wiggle then, the Brown Patchy Egg and the Bold ‘n’ Gold egg. The Brown Patchy Egg broke first and the green that tumbled out was both energetic and keen on the fight between the blues. Still dripping egg goo, the boldly coloured green hissed and rumbled at the blues, goading them into greater fighting and yet appearing as though she were their referee.

Just as Feynath was about to order her children to behave, the golden egg burst. The uproar was simply too much it seemed, for as soon as the gold clambered from her shell and shook the goo from her wings, she roared her hatchling roar at the blues in a clear order for all three. Above, Feynath huffed and tossed her head, bemused.

Well things were certainly getting busy now! Mercy thought to herself as another green hatched and seemed to be interested in the still fighting blues. It looked for all the world like she was trying to goad them into more of a fight! But then the gold hatched and what a beauty she was!

Quickly putting the others in their place as well, like any queen ought to! The sweet tempered green who had been wandering to and fro seemed to have made her choice. Mercy wished the blues would quite bickering and do so as well - though perhaps now they would with their royal sister ordering them about.

Ashmere nearly fell back into her seat as her legs buckled from under her, there was someone down there that could settle the brothers fighting after all, the harper girl grinned from ear to ear as the gold egg burst open, things were getting exciting now.

The hide she had been writing on had found itself some distance away from the young brunette, this hatching certainly did hold her attention; blushing slightly at the adrenaline she felt surging through her still shivering body, Ashmere eagerly waited for things to fully get settled.

Who would the two blues choose, whom would the green and the gold choose, nervously Ashmere was once again holding her breath as she watched.

Well, it seemed that Drakell had been 100% ineffective. At least he had tried. Azuran turned briefly to watch as the light green from earlier wandered through the boys and found Hers among the girl candidates. Wasn't that the girl that had fallen during the touching? Well, he was certainly happy for her to have been bonded to by such a nice dragon.

The hatching really was happening quickly now, for just a moment later the brown patchy egg broke open to reveal another green. He found himself incredulous however as she proceeded to goad on her two brothers into further fighting. Seriously?

It was quite the relief when the young gold hatched from her egg and called the three to order. And now the queen is revealed, he thought to himself, looking over the pretty young gold. Hopefully with her out and about the two blues would finally quit their quibbling long enough to find Theirs. Not to mention the new green.

So much happening, her heart beating ever faster. She feared for a while that the blues would kill one another, almost missed the Impression of the two greens, one even to a girl she had spoken to once or twice... But then the little queen hatched, and demanded silence.

Letting out a breath, Kleos relaxed a little and began to focus on more than just the battling blues once more... She still hadn't been chosen. She knew that there were still dragons to hatch and bond, but equally she knew that Hers might well not be here. Certainly she deserved to Impress, but the deserving did not always get their dues; she might have to wait a few times. She might never Impress. Kleos nibbled on her lower lip and glanced around at the unbonded dragons; she knew she could live without becoming a rider, but that didn't mean she liked the idea.

BANG BANG BANG--CLANG CLANG CLANK CLANG A cacophony of strident noise woke Amon and Amarth, who in turn started jumping atop the deeply slumbering Therion. It didn't take long for the combination of noise and stomping to rouse the big boned teen from his bed. As a matter of fact, once he realized what was going on, he fell out of bed in a tumble of blanket and sleep-heavy limbs.

"Nnng...Amon, Amarth -- GO LAY DOWN." A firm command spoken with a muffled, fuzzy voice; Ther wasn't nearly awake enough to deal with two chittering flits, not when he had a hatching to be worried about. Quickly he extracted himself from his bedding and haphazardly pulled it into some semblance of order -- training to be a glass-smith had been hard and he hadn't forgotten the lessons he learned there: you did not leave your bunk a wreck unless you wanted a swift beating and the worst jobs.

After all of that, he'd gone tearing out to the Sands to claim a candidate's robe. The Candidate-Master had separated the two genders and ordered them out onto the heated sands - he shuffled a bit so that he could be somewhere near Lothan and Inaari - and then watched the dragonets emerging with a sort of quiet awe.

Kentori watched as the dragons crawled from their sheels, and also watched on as the first few hatchlings Impressed. He had only seen the beginning of the dispute between the two blues when he felt a presence in his mind, and suddenly a voice burst out from it. Kentori! You Lalaith is hungry! Come away from them. His eyes snapped to the green who had emerged amidst the chaos and was essentially creating a path through the Candidates with her snarls and snaps. Others must think she was out to hurt them - that she was vicious. But he knew instantly that that was not the case as he moved to her with a wide grin on his face. He had Impressed this girl, and knew at that moment that it was perfect. "Let's get you some food," he said quietly so that only she and those directly next to them could hear. Yes, and mind the ones who are brawling. There's no need for you to be hurt because they can't control themselves. Beaming, he led her to the table with the raw meat waiting for its hungry hatchlings and their riders. He hadn't even noticed the girl Impress or the other hatchings, until he turned and saw the young gold force her way of of her shell. He was in the process of feeding a hunk of raw meat to Lalaith, who took it enthusiastically while watching the rest of the hatching as well.

Rhilira was standing among the Candidates, the bout of nerves in her stomach the same as the last time When Tiepet Impressed the pale green dragonet, she had to work hard not to cheer aloud. She'd congratulate her after - the girl deserved it! A boy she didn't recognize had Impressed somewhat close to her before that, though she wasn't among the silly Candidates trying to get that green's attention only to be waved off rather violently (though she was glad that she wasn't outright attacking anyone). She was more worried about the two blues, desperately hoping now that a fight had broken out, neither would go between.

She then saw another green hatch, and then... The queen hatchling! It was very exciting, to see her hatch, but this was all becoming a bit much, even for Rhilira. There was so much going on...!

So what had started as Tiepet pretending to sleep in her barracks ended up with her halfway to the herdbeast pens before the humming started. The girl had always been a light sleeper, nothing really to write to mother about, but tonight for some reason she was more on edge then usual. Then it happened, and she heard the humming. Above her head and on her shoulder her two flitters chorused out with their squeal feelings of delight. The eggs were hatching, the dragons were ready to greet the world! There was no time for their girl to be hiding amongst the others now, she needed to be out on the sands now!

So it was that Tiepet managed to make it back to the barracks just in time to be rounded up and dressed up, her flitters staying clutched to her small breast before flying off as she was ushered with the others out onto the sands. It was easy enough for the small girl to find her way into an area where she was mostly hidden from the others (and the eggs), preventing her from having to worry in case something where to happen. Tie wasn't being a coward - she was being careful.

When the first egg hatched and quickly Impressed she heaved a sigh of relief, though one that caught itself with all the other dragons. It wasn't until that Purple egg, the one from before she thought was pretty, cracked out and such a pale dragonet tossed herself into the fray. Tie almost instinctively ducked behind some of the larger girls, ones she knew so it would be okay in her opinion, but it wasn't until she heard a call in her head that she even dared look anymore.

Mine! Were you hiding? Your Filanth was looking for you! Yours is hungry!

The pale dragonet was whispering into her mind, into her heart, and it was all Tie could do to not scream out loud in both shock and awe, love and fear. She'd Impressed, the Timid Shepherd had Impressed, and now she would never have to worry about bveing alone or anything else for the rest of her life. . . .that is, if she would stop hiding. Her dragon may have come to her, but Tiepet wasn't moving. Not a single step.

Mine? Come, you must feed me. I grow hungry, and we need to get somewhere safe before my brothers spread their wrath.

Filanth moved closer and touched Tiepet with her nose, causing the girl to jump slightly but also moving her from her daze. She rose from her feet (Tie'd been squatting) and started over towards the table, her hands trembling as she reached to touch the beautiful head. Tiepet had Impressed!

Wykla couldn't believe her eyes as the dark green chose her new friend. She claps and cheers loudly, hoping Ralae would hear. She was happy for her friend.

Her head turns at the sound of two more eggs hatching. Blues! She watches wide-eyed as the two blues seem to have space issues. Who would give in? And then another green hatched. At least she was much calmer than her blue siblings. Wykla frowns and wonders why the boys don't step toward to distract the blues and help them Impress.

Oh, it looked like another green had Impressed. To a boy this time. Wykla was fine with that; it looked like the girl knew who she wanted. Noticing the pale green wandering into the girls Wykla keeps an eye on her. Nope, for another girl. She gives a smile and wave in congrats.

It looked like two more were about it hatch and one was the gold egg! Wykla inhales in excitement and has to remind herself to exhale. A green hatched and got involved with the blues. Would they ever find Theirs? And, yes the gold hatched and was quickly telling her siblings to settle down it looked like.

Alurel had heard the loud banging that woke him long before the morning sun. It wasn't exactly how he wanted to be woken but soon his eyes snapped open as he realized what was going on. Scrambling out of bed, he jumped into the proper attire. Then, as quickly as he could, he hurried to the sands and of course got in place with the other boys.

Rubbing his eyes, he watched as new little dragons started hatching along. He smiled thoughtfully as they found their riders amongst the many kids on the sands but then turned his eyes towards the blues that hatched. They seemed to be taking their time or maybe they were just having a hard time deciding? Well, that didn't seem quite right. Shouldn't they already know who they want after the touching? Well, he figured if he were a dragon, he would already have an idea of who he'd choose after so many hands had been upon the egg.

But then he turned his head quickly and focused on the gold egg as it burst open. She showed herself and started roaring at the others. He shook his head and quietly was amused by the sight. Only a second out of the egg, and she was already on to the others. Every time an egg hatched, Alurel only wanted to compare his previous thoughts about what he felt would be in the egg upon touching it the first time. Did his guesses match? Well, he'd never know with the gold eggs but he was very curious to know his results in relation to the others.

Having been around the Weyr for so long, hatchings were always jammed packed with distractions; he just had to make sure he didn't fall into the trap and get trampled on the way.

Arelly rolled out of bed automatically at the loud clanging of spoon against pot, giving herself a few fierce shakes of the head to push away sleep. The night had been restless enough.. well, the past few nights had, really. The excitement of the Touching and the impending Hatching was nothing like she had experienced, and needless to say her energy was in overdrive. So when the wake-up call came, she was ready. Boots pulled on, clothes properly straightened, hair given a quick comb through with her fingers (the wonderful thing about perpetually messy hair), and she hustled with the others out towards the grounds where she had been just a few days before, standing lined up among her peers and waiting.

The first of the dragonets didn't take long to appear, toddling over towards Theirs, and Arelly smiled excitedly, her fingertips tapping together to release the nerves she was trying to keep otherwise hidden. It was the first time she had ever seen one of the young ones so close, and it was such a thrill just to even be standing here, even if she wasn't the one to Impress.

The two blues who began to fight, however, immediately snapped her out of the dreamy state of awe she was in. That's no good, they shouldn't be doing that! Hurry and find Yours! After all, that's what the Impression was about - fighting could wait. The small green that hatched next found Hers, and Arelly was pleased to find that it was the blond girl who had fallen during the Touching to whom she had Impressed. Oh good! Knowing that, she felt a little more encouraged, and turned her attention back to the remaining eggs, her nerves calming just a little, until the chaos of the two large eggs in the back filled her with anxiety again. They now cracking, hatching.. and the largest was making quite a lot of noise. She held her breath. The Gold.. who would she choose? Would any of the eggs choose her?

All she could do was wait.

N'tin, on the other hand, watched the proceedings while standing next to his beloved green. His hand rested on her side as he squinted down at the Sands below. Saerath watched with a casual interest, but Hers could feel how standoffish she felt about the person she knew he was looking for.

Indeed, N'tin was searching for his cousin among the line of Candidates. As fond flashbacks of his Impression came to him, he remembered growing with Saerath, maturing, learning. If anything, he dearly wanted his cousin to have the same experience.

Ah, there she is. He spotted the blond mop at last, tucked away behind other taller candidates. And lo and behold, the small green that had just hatched made her way towards the taller girls, but to his delight..

Tie had Impressed. Tie had Impressed!

Did you see that, Saerath? He couldn't contain the excitement as he turned towards his dragon and gave her a cheerful pat. Tie had done it, Tie had made it! He would definitely have to give the young girl his congratulations. Meanwhile the dragon flicked her tail and narrowed her eyes slightly at Hers' enthusiasm. Joy.
