Rivener snickered. He did do SOME stuff with Aphi, but the Sigel rather liked that their lives weren't so tightly intertwined anymore. Aphi lived his life, and Riv did his own stuff. He was fine with that, most of the time. Explaining that to the young woman sharing his spot of sun might be a little too difficult, however, so Riv just let that whole bit of conversation disappear. He focused instead on the music thing.
"Of course there's different kinds. Tons of kinds. I bet Ebony listens to Classical, that sounds like her type of thing for some reason... Want to hear something different? Stay here, I'll go get something and be right back." The Sigel got to his metaphorical feet and headed towards the front door, intent on going up to his room to fetch his mp3 player. He tried not to think about how nice he might be acting.
Aphismet laughed brightly. "Indeed, lucky for you! She can clean up after your mess! Though it's hard to burn stock, you know. I was more worried you'd lob off a finger or two; where's all your usual dexterity, Ebs? Martial artists should know how to handle a knife, shouldn't they?" He grinned and winked, clinking his bottle against hers to show that he didn't mean any offense.
Ebony asked if the "kids" might be okay, but just as Aphismet opened his mouth to answer, the front door clicked open and Rivener entered. "Well, let's just ask! Riv! How's things going out there?"
"Fine," the Scorpion answered in passing, heading up the stairs. "Just getting my player to show Cordelia some cool music for once."
Aphi's face melted into amusement, shoulders hunched up as he looked back to Ebony. "Sounds like they're getting along!"
Rivener was back outside within the minute, laying on the grass and hooking one headphone on his own ear, offering the other to Delia. "Come closer, put this on your ear. I'll play you some different stuff, I have a few kinds on here."

A rare blinking accompanied the disappearing Sigel as he floated off towards the house again. Cordelia couldn't help pouting again. What if he suddenly decided she wasn't worth the trouble anymore and didn't come back? All her hard work would have been for not! Thus the girl remained where she was even daring to doze off a bit in the grass until Rivener returned. She sure hoped he would at least.
"My knowledge of blades is of the much larger variety if you do so remember. Besides, what my skills with them are I can assure you is not for something as delicate as finely cutting vegetables." she scoffed at the chef with a cross of her arms defensively over her chest. But Ebony couldn't help softening a bit at his good old teasing and carefully uncrossed one arm to participate with the clinking of bottles.
Her ears perked slight at the sound of the front door opening and listened carefully as Aphismet yelled to his older charge. Cool music? Ebony frowned. What did he mean by that? Classical music was perfectly 'cool'! It was classy like its name implied and never went out of style!
As the scorpion came back down and was on his way back outside, the violet Brit suddenly jumped up and yelled over the counter at his departing figure. "Nothing vulgar Rivener! Do you hear me?! RIVENER?!" She fell back into her seat with a heavy sigh when her questions went unanswered. Realizing Aphi was still there and had seen that whole display, the woman flashed him a sheepish smile. "Sorry about that. I'm being overbearing aren't I? I know she needs to learn things on her own, but Cordelia's just so..." She frowned again when no other word would come to mind aside from the one she eventually muttered. "...corruptible..."
Since no Raevan she knew of had legs yet, Cordelia was trying to keep an ear out for the other while basking enjoyable in the sun. But alas, he was too quiet or she wasn't paying enough attention thus when his voice came again so suddenly and close, Delia jumped a little. Of course once she realized it was only Rivener again, she calmed down quickly.
Her head swiveled curiously a bit at the device the other was playing with then. She'd never seen anything like it since Ebby didn't own one, but slowly drew closer and mirrored the way Riv was wearing its twin. Her eyes lit up like Christmas lights on a tree when the music floated into her ear. "Oh my...you can bring the music with you anywhere! And not even have to play it yourself!" The idea of this tickled her just so and the younger Raevan laughed gleefully as she listened more, drawing even closer to the older male. It certainly was an amazing device for someone who'd only seen music played on instruments and occasionally the tv and radio.

Aphismet blinked at Ebony's yelling, laughing once the woman turned a sheepish smile his way. He was so unused to seeing the Brit like that, losing her composed, cool exterior and revealing her soft innards so to speak. The chef's laugh was heartfelt and warm, glad for the display. Ebony was changing too, from having a Raevan in her life.
"I wouldn't call it overbearing or anything, you're just a concerned parent. It's normal! And with Riv involved, that might have been a fair warning." The chef snickered. "I wouldn't worry though. If he likes Delia now, Rivener has a habit of being very-... how should I say it? He kind of has a big brother complex. I'm sure he wouldn't do anything horrid to her."
As it was, Rivener didn't actually listen to much vulgar stuff. The music on his mp3 player had wide range, from accoustic things to heavy metal, movie soundtracks and electronica, pop songs and current hits. He was sure he could find something Delia would like in there. After she put the headphone on, Riv hit play on the randomizer.
A song came on, and Delia instantly perked up, eyes aglow. Riv tried not to smirk. "Yeah, that's exactly what this is for. You have to use your computer to put the songs on, but once they are you can take them with you anywhere. Until the battery runs out." He nodded, shrugging a shoulder. "You could put classical music on it too, but I don't really like that stuff enough to put it on here."

"Can I be a concerned older sister? I refuse to believe there's anything about little, young me that's even remotely close to motherly." If that wasn't the pot calling the kettle black, then who knew what that saying meant. The Brit sighed and tried to relax back into her normal comforts which was hard after showing so much emotion in front of her friend in such a short period of time. She disliked how she was coming off now to the chef. Would he think of her as any other emotion driven, flighty woman now? The horror it would bring should word get back to Alex, and it would, she knew it would.
She took a thoughtful sip of her drink then. Tapping the rim of the opening to her bottom lip lightly, "Big brother complex? Well that I can absolutely deal with. It's the...other thing I'm worried about." These thoughts always spawned from one particular moment once upon a time when she'd first picked up the serpentine Raevan long ago. The source of a nightmare that none of them could ever forget now, yet tried anyway.
She'd closed her scaly eyes and was bobbing just slight to the player's interestingly different music when Rivener spoke some more. "Come-pew-tear?...OH! Ebby's lap thingy. She doesn't use it all that much really and says I'm not suppose to touch it at all. But maybe if I tell her it's for music she'll let me?" She didn't seem all that convinced that it would. Ebony was very stubborn when it came to a lot of things and she had rules for EVERYTHING, the no touching of the laptop a top listing.
A swift upbeat song just blazed on then and Cordelia's dark rune pulsed happily along with the energetic beat. "Oooo, I like this one! Makes me...want to move!" she laughed and tried swaying hips she had yet to develop. Not to mention she was still very attached to the scorpion by the ear, no doubt the slight tugging of the cord would annoy him at some point and would force her to stop completely.

Aphismet laughed, dark eyes crinkling. "Alright, alright, a sister it is." Although truly, being a Guardian was more akin to being a parent than a sibling. Still, if it made Ebony more comfortable to be referred to as a sister, Aphi would comply. He took another drink of his beer, listening to the Brit go on about the other thing. ...Other thing? Wha- oh. Aphi chuckled and shook his head.
"Well, you don't have to worry about that with Riv anymore, I think. Ever since Zul's been living here with us, Riv's been exerting a lot more self-control around other Raevans. I don't think I've seen him kiss anyone since Christmas, apart for Zul of course." He smirked sheepishly: in all honest he wasn't all that comfortable with the two male Raevans' relationship, whatever it was, but since Alex didn't seem to think it was a big deal the chef forced himself to allow it. "But you do realize, whether you want it to happen or not, someday Delia WILL date someone. Probably far in the future though."
Rivener snickered. That sure sounded like Ebony. "She probably just has things on there she doesn't want you to see. Like... naughty pictures or something." His snickering only got worse as he imagined Ebony's face at the accusation. Eventually the song changed and Delia began wiggling on the grass, admitting that she felt like moving...
Riv laughed and just took his half of the headphones out, handing it to the snake. "Here, just take both. You seem to like dance tracks, so I'll set up a few in a row for you. Go ahead and move all you like." He turned his attention to the iPod, turning off the random and selecting a few upbeat tunes like the one currently playing. He then just put the player down and lay his head on an arm in the grass, chuckling as he watched the girl go.
Okay, maybe he WAS being nice now. And smiling a lot more than he should. It was getting harder to remember why he wasn't supposed to.

A brow rose suspiciously at Aphi when he readily agreed with that laugh. Oh how he lied! He obviously thought of her as some old mother figure now. How depressing. The Brit took another quick swig of her beer, ego completely deflated.
"Oh? So they're pretty serious then huh? Well good for them. Though I suppose it must be pretty awkward with you all living together now." Wow, now that she'd thought about it, the man's family just seemed to grow with time and she couldn't help being a tad jealous. A small part of her also wondered how serious Aphi and Alex were. Would they end up getting married someday? Ebony smiled a little at the thought, thinking it'd be a great match indeed. The smile faded though when Aphi said the one thing the Brit couldn't stand to hear, the idea of her sweet little girl having any romantic relations. It didn't matter how far into the future it would happen, she could barely deal with her own, how the hell would she deal with Cordelia having one?
With a loud groan, "Aphismet! Why do you torture me so?!" The woman took another swig and sighed, pulling her fingers through her long, purple ponytail. "I know it'll happen someday, but I'd rather it not be today or any day soon after. Hey, how long are we suppose to be letting that heat?" Pointing the neck of her bottle towards the boiling pot they'd all but forgotten. Although the chef said it was hard to let something like that burn, Ebony doubted it could be good to let it sit on the fire too long.
Obviously she'd totally missed the naughty pic comment, not that she'd understand it really, but the scorpion was indeed right about Ebony's reaction to such a scandalous idea. Eyes shone bright at the offering of his magical possession. Rivener must really be liking her if he was allowing her the exclusive use of something like this!
"Really? Thanks so much!" Beaming, Delia graciously took the other earplug and got up to dance. Well...what she considered dancing anyway. All she was really doing was swaying her arms and part of a torso she had about in a much more crazed manner than she normally did. Every so often that charcoal ribbon would fall further to the ground only to bounce right clear off again, much like the coiling and pouncing of a snake's tail.
When the song began to wind down, the basilisk giggled and floated back to the lounging Sigel. He looked so much happier and relaxed now and that pleased the serpent. Cordelia quickly concluded that she preferred a smiling Rivener to a glaring one. Suddenly she latched onto one of his arms and began to tug light, "Come Rivener! Come dance with me! I bet you do it better."

Aphismet chuckled. "It's not awkward, not really... Well, okay, maybe a little. With Eiry being jealous half the time and hiding himself away the other half, it's pretty much what you'd call awkward." And walking in on Zul and Rivener kissing on the couch could probably be called awkward as well, though Alex only ever called it "cute".
The Brit went on to say how she wished Cordelia would basically never get a boyfriend, then switched the topic rather blatantly again, pointing towards the stock pot. Aphismet laughed again, thoroughly amused. He was glad he wasn't the only one losing his cool when it came to his Raevan. "Don't worry, it's supposed to simmer for a good long time. The longer the better! I'll just turn it to low, if it's boiling..." And it was, which was probably why Ebony pointed it out. The chef turned the heat way down, lifting the lid to have a smell and smiling. "Just leave on the low heat for like three hours! The more time passes, the more flavor will concentrate in the water. This'll probably still be simmering when you leave, so I'll just tell you how it ends: you strain out everything and throw that away (or, puree it all together with a ladle of stock and it makes a delicious soup!), and you're left with clear chicken broth! Homemade is so much better than store-bought." He grinned, taking another sip of beer.
Rivener couldn't help but snicker at the way she danced. It was funny to look at! Then again, anyone without legs probably looked odd when dancing. Riv himself had only danced a few times, recalling a winter party where he and Roux had been out on the dance floor...
Something Delia apparently felt intent on making him relive right away, suddenly hugging onto his arm and tugging him up. The Sigel groaned and got to his "feet", running a hand through his hair. "I can't hear the music," he offered as a lame excuse, though he did follow the girl along as she bounced. Riv's movements were less crazed than hers, but probably looked just as odd without feet. He danced well enough, given the circumstances, a slight smile on his face.
He hated to admit he was having fun.

Eiry, she tended to forget about the most mischievous member of the Delaran family. He liked to keep to his books when he wasn't busy playing pranks on people. She had to admit, he certainly had a knack for it as the ghostly Raevan had caught her by surprise a few times in the past, back when she'd been around more for training Aphi.
"That's too bad. He shouldn't hid away and let his jealousy fester. He should get out of the house sometime and get to know more of the other Raevans. There's certainly more than enough of them now to keep him busy. Perhaps he'd enjoy a play date with Cordelia?" Opps, that was a big mistake. If she invited Eiry over then by default Isi was sure to come. Oh well, she can't take it back now else look foolish and rude, besides this wasn't about her or Isikoro, it was about Eirdirsceol.
"Oh, I see. Okay, I guess that's not so hard to remember to do. Suppose I'll have to try it again by myself at home." Ebony gave an uneasy laugh, envisioning a burning pot. But she allowed that dreaded thought to fade and instead took a big sniff of the delicious scents wafting from the pot as Aphismet closed the lid once more. "That does smell wonderful. What do you normally do with the broth once it's finished? Do you make it into chicken soup? Or do you use it to like...bast something?" My god she was hopeless when it came to using unfamiliar cooking terms.
"Oh?" she frowned, looking at the device and remembering how it was hard to move with them sharing the earphones. "That is a problem..." Then an idea hit her and she carefully removed the plugs before handing them to Rivener. "Maybe...we can find a different kind of music? Out here!" She whirled around with her arms stretched wide, referring to the great outdoors that was the crimson black Raevan's home.
The monotone girl closed her eyes and listened very carefully to everything around, her floating form slowly descending down to the ground, hoping to feel some sort of vibration that would indicate sound. Or at least things that made them. Delia listened hard and she could hear a lot of things, the light murmur of the humans back in the house, though she wasn't able to make out what they were saying. She could hear the trees rustling every so often when the breeze blew. There was the scurrying of smaller creatures further out into the taller grass...but nothing she could define as music, not the way she'd been taught music was.
Delia pouted, her idea was good, but not applicable she guessed. Turning back to Rivener, "I don't...hear anything that sounds like music. Do you?" Maybe being older, he'd have better senses than her and might hear something else.

Aphismet was rather startled to hear Ebony offer to have Isi and Eiry over. Wouldn't it be awkward to have the Brit and Aphi's grumpy brother in the same room while Delia and Eiry played? Ah, the things they'd do for their wards. Surely Ebs was thinking only of Delia, and Isi would agree only so Eiry might make a new friend. "The poor kid, Eiry barely ever speaks to others outside the family. He follows Isi to work sometimes, but it doesn't seem to do much good... I'm sure a playdate would be nice."
The sad note in his voice turned back into mirthful laughter once Ebony asked what to do with chicken broth. "Broth is a base for everything! In anything I would use water, I try to use a broth instead. Gives much more flavor! Soups yes, making sauces, even cooking rice or potatoes! Any opportunity to put flavor into something is a good one, I say! But Soups are indeed the main thing. Just throw anything you like in the broth, boil until the ingredients are cooked through, and that's a very simple, basic soup right there." He patted Ebony's shoulder. "I'm sure you'll learn! It takes some time, but it'll be worth it when you can cook stuff all on your own. It's usually much tastier, too."
Rivener took back his mp3 player, tucking it into his pocket for safekeeping. He watched Delia go around searching for this elusive outdoor music, going so far as to press her ear to the ground... Riv snickered, shaking his head.
Eventually she got the picture and straightened, asking if Riv could hear anything more. The Scorpion chuckled. "No, I don't hear anything. We don't have any wind chimes or stuff like that, and there's not really any neighbors or traffic around to provide noise. But if you want out-loud music, I might have something for that." Riv winked, then floated towards the house. "Wait out here."
Again he went in, though he didn't travel far: over to the television, which he pulled towards the window and turned slightly, opening the closest glass pane. He turned the set on, changed the channel to the music feed...
Aphi blinked at the sudden racket, followed by loud music. "RIV?" he asked, but the Scorpion had already floated back outside, to Cordelia's side.
"How's that?" the Sigel asked, grinning.

Embarrassed by her faux pas, Ebony's cheeks flaired up a bit once more, though not as intense as the previous bouts. "I...I didn't know. But I guess it makes sense. Sounds delicious if nothing else. But being a novice, I think it best I stick with easy stuff, like soup for now."
Chuckling again, finally feeling a smidgen comfortable now, Ebony reached for her beer, which was probably the reason for her sudden sense of easiness. That was until a loud ruckus reached her ears and her startled hand slipped, knocking the bottle to the linoleum floor. Jumping out of the way of the inevitable shattering glass, the Brit yelled loud, "HELL'S BELLS! What-what's going on?!" Meanwhile she looked around for some paper towels or something to mop up the mess she'd made.
The basilisk once more waited patiently for the scorpion as he rushed back inside, once again coming up with an answer for the girl's curious nature. She watched curiously as he fought with something inside and then pushed open the clear pane barrier. Suddenly music was pouring out the window and although Delia was frightened at first, the girl never doing well with unexpected loud noises, she quickly calmed down when she recognized the similar beat she'd been listening to on Rivener's player.
Sharp wings flaring out in excitement, the girl came "running" to meet the Sigel with a certain worship in her smokey eyes. "Riven's so smart! Now we dance!" she giggled uncontrollably as she took the elder Raevan's hands, urging him to show her how it's suppose to be done.

Aphi swore at the suddenly breaking bottle. He hurried for the paper towels, handing them to Ebony and then quickly fetching the dustpan and hand-broom. "Here, here, put the big glass in here. Be careful." He doubted he needed to tell her that, she was always careful, but the words slipped out of the protective white-haired man before he could stop them. He knelt besides Ebs, picking up pieces of bottle and putting them in the dustpan, ready to brush up the rest after the liquid had absorbed away.
Loud music was the soundtrack to their struggling, and Aphi frowned up at the door, sighing. "I suppose they got tired of the mp3 player?" he suggested. "Sorry he startled you."
Rivener returned to a very excited Delia, the girl running up to him and exclaiming how smart he was. Rivener couldn't lie: he did so adore when Freis looked at him with THAT LOOK. Like he knew more, and could show them things. It made him feel a little better, like he could forget his stupid broken wings for a while. "Riven?" he asked lowly, raising an eyebrow at the nickname. First time anyone'd called him THAT.
There was no time to think though: it was time to dance! Riv chuckled and let Delia take his hand, the two going back to their sunny spot, where there was more than enough space. Here Rivener began to dance, swaying back and forth to the music, his form bobbing up and down as it would should he own legs. He'd watched enough music videos and dance shows to know what kind of dancing he liked best, and he did his damnedest to do it justice, moving his body like he thought it should... and eventually that turned simply into moving his body how it felt good. It was a strange lower-torso-lacking hybrid of hip-hop, but Riv found he liked it very much, grinning as he held onto Delia's hand, showing her the ropes.

Sighing heavily, Ebony took the offered towels. "No, it's fine, just..." She was starting to get a bit frustrated with how much a girl she was acting like today. Not that there was anything wrong with be a female, just that when you're in your mid-twenties, a woman likes to be seen as capable and collected, not easily startled.
"Thanks Aphismet..." she murmured when the other came back with a pan and broom to help, although it was all her fault the bottle broke in the first place. 'Clumsy.' she thought to herself with disgust. A distraction she shouldn't have allowed seeing as they were still bits of glass hiding in the brown liquid of which she so happily found. Ebony gave a frustrated sort of scream then as she nicked her thumb. Seemed today just wasn't her day.
Oblivious as always when she was as happy as a clam, Delia didn't hear the other comment on her labeling him with a nickname. She just so loved giving affectionate names to those she liked, and right now she was very much liking Rivener, er Riven.
She watched and eagerly tried as best she could to mimic the elder boy, but it was hard when she didn't have anything lower than her ribcage to move. The more they danced though the move Cordelia had the odd notion to try and undulate her body, weaving from side to side a little less chaotically than when they'd begun. Perhaps she was starting to get this dancing thing.
"You're really good." she commented although she had no idea what bad was if you wanted to get technical. "Where'd you learn? Your Aphi?"

Aphismet watched her move with a slight frown of concern. Was it that she didn't take well to alcohol? Was it that she was stressed beyond her comfort poin? What could possibly be making Ebony act so... strange today? She was pondering something, not paying full attention to what her hands were doing, and just as the chef was starting to think he should mention something about being careful again, she nicked her thumb.
Aph flinched at the short cry of frustration more than pain, surprised at such a display. Ebs seemed the type to hide everything. "Wait here," he said, patting her shoulder gently and pushing her to sit upright, away from the task for a moment. "Leave that for a few seconds. I mean it. I'll be right back."
He moved calmly around the kitchen island to a drawer where he kept a miscellany of objects. Sifting through the cooking twine, random bolts and screws, scissors and matches, he located a small box of bandages and removed one. A cold, clean square of dampened paper towel, and Aphi returned to his friend's side. "Give me that thumb," he spoke softly, dabbing at it with the paper towel, making sure it was clear of any glass shards. He wrapped it in a band-aid and smiled lightly once the first-aid was done. "There. Now, then. What's the matter? It's not like you to be so distracted. ...Are you worn thin?" The chef angled his head in concern, though he remained calm. As ever, Aphismet shone his best when in a small (or big) crisis.
Rivener watched Cordelia watch him. She was drinking in the movements, mimicking at first, and slowly making it her own, much the same way Riv himself had done it from the memories of television-dancers. She didn't look half bad at it, Riv had to admit. He grinned and snickered at the compliment he received, then outright snorted with laughter. "From Aphi? Hardly! Hahah, boy can't dance a lick! I saw him do the robot once, and that wasn't even any good either." The Scorpion shook his head at the idea.
"Nah, I learned like you did just now: I watch other people who could do it, then tried to copy, and once I knew what I was doing I made it more like ME." He had no reason to admit that he'd only just learned to do this on the spot. "I watched a few people dancing on television, and learned from that."

She blinked at him as he physically moved her away from the mess they were still mopping up. Her nose twitched as she gave a light scoff, as if she'd go right back into that glass riddled mine field so soon. Well...Ebony eyed the mess thoroughly not pleased at how it mocked her there on the floor at having not been cleaned up just yet and sighed. Perhaps Aphi had been wise to move her else she probably would have went right back to work. Ebony couldn't stand clutter or the like.
Fighting her natural instincts to clean up the mess, the violet haired woman instead took to watching as the chef searched through a drawer. She raised a brow at how cluttered it was. How in the world did he even managed to remember what was in there let alone find anything? But manage he did as Aphisment came back with a box of bandages and a damp paper towel.
Ebony automatically gave him her hand the minute he asked for it, his stern, yet concerned look and no nonsense tone triggering memories of her father. "Thanks." she said again once her wound was cleaned and dressed. She was all ready to get back to work when Aphi's question made her pause and bite her lip. Truth was, she was. But it was her own doing. She was constantly doubting everything she was doing with Cordelia, but alas, Aphi didn't need to burdened with any of her stupid insecurities.
"It's nothing. I'm fine. Just having an off day. Everyone's entitled to one of those right?" Ebony asked before kneeling back on the floor to finish their clean up.
Cordelia's scales crinkled into a bigger smile as she watched the Sigel dance and laugh whole-heartedly. Now that they'd gotten past all his abrasiveness, the snake was starting to see why Zul liked the scorpion so much. He was actually a very nice and fun guy when he wasn't all moody and rwar. But...what did a robot have to do with dancing?
She puffed a little in pride at having been compared to the older male, her wings doing a bit of a shuffling. Delia did so love getting praise and compliments. "There's dancing on the tele? I've not seen. Ebby doesn't let me watch it much. Mostly ed...ed-ju-kay-schi-nal stuff." Cordelia replied, stumbling a bit over the longer word she'd heard her guardian spout off several times.

Aphismet smiled sadly and nodded at Ebony's words, letting a sigh escape him. "Yeah, everyone's entitled. But you know you can talk to me, right? If something's the matter. I don't like to brag, but I've been told I'm a pretty good listener." He winked, batting her hands away from the mess and trying to continue on his own. "Leave that, it's nearly done, I can finish."
Rivener rolled his eyes. Figured Ebs wouldn't let her watch just anything. And really, in retrospect, it was probably for the best. Though Rivener had free reign of tv when he was young, he had ended up picking the "educational" stuff also, mostly because some of the other things he'd seen were just... boring and weird. In a few cases, disgusting. "Well, you're not missing very much. But ask Ebony to rent you a movie about Dancing, sometime! There's some pretty fun ones out there. I bet you'd like High School Musical, for instance." Riv's smirk lost most of its mischief when he realized she probably WOULD like that movie. It was very PG-13, and had lots of singing and dancing.
