Cinnabar Island wasn't destroyed by a volcano... it was actually a result of Red challenging Blaine to a battle.
Red doesn't need to train Pokemon because the Pokemon train themselves for him.
Red doesn't need a Pokemon to learn Rock Smash, he smashes the rocks himself.
Giovanni didn't disappear because he was defeated. He disappeared because Red came to Kanto.
When Red has lunch with Snorlax, Snorlax shares the food.
Red doesn't need a Pokemon to win a Pokemon Contest, just his being there makes him get max points.
I shall come up with more later.

You sure? Last I checked, main reason why the games had Red and Blue for names was because the games were released before they had come up with the finalized names in the anime... And for written proof...

(just read 90 chapters of the manga yesterday so this is fresh)
