This is kind of a silly thing to debate. Still, I'm going to have to go with a banapple.
That was it. XD

if there's technicality here with the fruit being the knowledge of good and evil, we need to know what both are if we are to knowingly choose what we are doing.

maybe this isn't believed by most people, but when there was the war in heaven, satan wanted the post of savior originally, and promised that no souls would be lost, he would make them return to heaven. we generally believe that we needed the choice to truly enjoy it. it's like that corny saying 'you can't appreciate the sunshine until it rains'. you really can't enjoy right and wrong unless you can actively choose between them.

i was also sort of raised with the concept that god KNEW they couldn't keep both commandments (without the knowledge of good and evil, they were too innocent to know how to multiply the earth), and later, after they were cast out of the garden of eden, adam and eve knew that also, and were glad to pick the more important commandment to keep (multiply)

i guess that no one was ever really specific about a kind of fruit. it's just always been depicted as an apple

I'm going to further banish the serious tone of this thread and ask, do any of you guys remember Juicy Fruit's strappleberry gum?
Freaking delicious.
If it was a strappleberry, I don't blame Eve. I would die for strappleberry too...

Nutritionally it's a vegetable, scientifically it's a fruit, I think.

Do you know why some view it as a fruit?

Palatably, they're delicious depending on how you prepare them.

In culinary terms it is classified as a vegetable because it is savory in flavor but botanically it is a fruit because it gets most of it's tissue from the ovary, contains the seeds, and comes from a flowering plant.

The botanical definition of fruit would include pumpkins, squash, and cucumbers. Tomatoes are specifically a type of berry.

Assuming this "fruit" still exists, would it still be a sin to eat it?

For those that assume the "fruit" is a metaphor, what does the "fruit" represent and would partaking in the concept/action/behavior the "fruit" represented still be a sin?

This was my thinking of why we should know what fruit was in the garden of Eden.
