I play the Euphonium and Trombone. I always have, always will. I didn't want to be stuck with a "light" instrument, it's too competitive and I like being able to hit all of my notes without my instrument sounding like it's dying. The brass was always more appealing to me as a kid when we had to be "fitted" for an instrument. I still get peeved when I tell people I'm in the band and they think I play the clarinet like my sister does.

I play flute, but I'm going to play tuba for marching season next year like L33tMast3r. n__n

We have one girl in the low brass section currently, and she plays baritone and trombone. There's actually only four girls that play BRASS, two trumpets, the baritone/trombone girl I already mentioned, and a French horn. o__O And we have a band of 120ish.

WHAA!! 120ish!! my band's not even close to 50!! crying

My band has about 300 people in it. Yes it's only a middle schoole band too.

holy s**t! i know there's a high school marching band with that many, but a middle school band?! my school's mb has 151 members including guard. without it would be 136.
anyway, i'm one of two girls that play baritone (out of cool and there's 5 trombone players that are girls. 2 female trumepts, and 3 female mellophones/french horns. no girls have played tuba, but i heard there might be some that'll march next year.
I'm hoping that i'll be section leader my senior year (i can't compete with the guy running next year. xP) being as i'm the only freshman, it will be likely that i'll be the only senior. And i gots major skittles (not as much as our current section leader or the guy running next year, but i'm in 3rd place :3) so i'm very confident. And if I DO make it, i'll be the first female baritone section leader in the history of our school.

Lol. My band [ middle school] has 270 people right now. We have a hugh band. The dudes that run it are awesome though. The most played insturment is flute though. I play baritone, trombone, and saxaphone. My boyfriend play tuba & my ex plays french horn. I like to date brass guys xD

I'm a girl. I'm 4' 9" and weigh 87lbs. I played the tuba during middle school and high school. Plus I got a silver star in marching band for it, and was section learder for three years. Anyone who says a girl can't play tuba to you just send them to me. lol

I play baritone and personally I know more girls that play brass vs. guys. If anything the guy's at my school are mostly woodwinds. But I can also say that I know an equal amount of girls and guys that play both brass and woodwind, as well as percussion. I also play the bass drum in marching band. I am one of two girls in drumline and non of the guys give me a hard time because I am a girl.

Some people are very naive when it comes to the thought that girls can only play flute and clarinet. I did start off on clarinet, but only because my mom played the clarinet. I like playing baritone SO much more than clarinet. I am not going to judge anyone based on the instrument that they choose to play.

I myself play flute, but I want to learn a brass instrument to join jazz band because I can't play piano(and plus I already know woodwind, so it's a great excuse to get my foot in the door of brass instruments). Plus, low instruments are more pleasing to my ears, though my ears have learned to love the range of the flute. Actually, though I enjoy low sounds, I prefer the woody sound of a bass clarinet or any low woodwind as opposed to low brass, but I like brass better than woodwinds sometimes on the complete range.

Also, though boys dominate drumline and brass in my marching band, there are girls in those sections. The current section leader of the low brass is a girl who plays baritone(last year it was a guy who played tuba, and he hasn't quit or graduated. Our band has just shifted to make an entire 'low' section, and the tuba guy is section leader of the low section that includes bass clarinets, tenor saxes, and tubas. One of the bass clarinets is a girl, actually, and both tenors are girls). Last year, one of my good friends, who is a girl, was in drumline. She quit band, but plans to rejoin band and marching band next year. Actually, last year's section leader for drumline was a girl. So although girls are more lightly sprinkled in the brass and drumline, they're still there.

I've normally play the Trombone. However I have played both Tuba and Baritone as well. I tend to like the sounds of brass instruments the most. The only issue I had with the tube is the marching tube we had. It was to large/I was to short to be able to march with it. So sadly, someone else taller then me had to play it.

Don't feel bad. My grammar/middle school band only had like 20kids in it as well. Also, my high school band only had maybe 75 (I think the highest we ever hit was 78members total). However, my high school band wasn't accepting everyone. You had to audition to be in it. I know some high school bands accept everyone. My school did not. You had to be a actually well played and knowledgeable musician. For the auditions we had to play a song that they made everyone learn, write your own song for your instrument, be able to play both minor and major scales by memory and then take a written exam (to prove you could read music) to get in. They were very serious about music.

I'm a baritone and have been for 4 years (after failing to flap my lips enough for tuba.) The two years I marched in HS I was the only girl in low brass and there was only 1 other girl who played trumpet. (our band is tiny though, poor dear.)
Now, however, I'm one of 7 girls in my section of 30. Um... I'd have to say that our girl to guy ratio is pretty even across the band (excluding flute/pic section. Waaaaaay too many...) And to illustrate that, our band is around 500 and the flute/pic section is 70-80 girls strong (no boys.)
