Ronen's been coming back from school complaining alot about headaches lately. Then he says he sees blurry from one eye. Sounds like my little boy might need glasses. We won't know until we see the optometrist in a few days.

He doesn't seem to be taking the idea *too* badly... He isn't too much of a fan of it, however. He, however, do like the fact that the last few days have been relatively warmer and that the snow is melting. It's not really as warm as he would want... But we're slowly, very slowly, getting there.

Dear diary -

Yes, it's official... Ronen has a weaker left eye, and he will need glasses. Needless to say, he's not pleased. I've explained it to him that it would make things better, but he's still a bit septic. But I think that once he will get used to them, it might not be as bad, expecially when his headaches start going down.

His lens won't be ready for a few days, - im starting to be seriously annoyed with how long this is taking, I mean, it's taken near two weeks just to get an answer, for crying out loud ! I might have to find another optometrist in the future, and ask others which is best. This is the first time a matter like this had came up, after all... Once they are done, ill go with Ronen and let him pick a frame he likes. I've been working so much lately that price won't really be an issue, and it's bound to soften the blow a bit. He's allready feeling different from the other kids... this isn't helping any, as trivial as it sounds. At least he is very open with me... this makes things a bit easier. I do hope things will always remain this way.

He expresses himself alot with his drawings, with his art - which is a beautiful thing, to see emotions converted to imagery with a pencil. It is very hard to explain... But it is very beautiful. He's got talent, a truckload of talent... He likes to read mangas and try to replicate the style. Im toying with the idea of getting him copic or prismacolor markers for him to experiment... we would have to be sure to keep them out of the younger kids' reach, which is my the idea is still at the "toying" stage. I see where this goes...

Zero was definitively pissed off at the whole situation as she set foot in the optometrist's office. She had made the trip as pleasant as she could attempt to make it, grapping a few prismacolor markers and a pad of markerproof paper for Ronen, but she had to set foot in there eventually.

Ronen followed, his hand in his mother's, and holding one of the bags. He didn't want to go, and it was evident, but he knew better than make a fuss and protest about it. His mom, after all, seemed to be a bit annoyed allready, for a reason he didn't know. Maybe because it had taken so long as is ?

The duo definitively got the attention of the receptionist as they came in. "Ahh, miss... Hazuki, was it ? Yes, your son's lens are ready... I figure you two are here to pick up a frame ?"

"Yes." Zero answered, letting go of Ronen's hand as she motionned him to hand her the bag he was holding. He was going to be the one to pick, after all. The receptionist seemed to be used to see unusual things, and she didn't even seem to bat an eye as she saw the little dinosaur boy make her way to her. "Ahh, I see. Had you thoughts about contacts, maybe... ?"

"I don't really want contacts..." He answered. No matter how safe he heard it was, he really didn't like the idea of putting something directly on his eyes. It sounded GROSS, and he didn't care what the man in the white coat had said, it sounded like it would hurt. He'lld much ratter wear something visible as long as he didn't have to fight with it every morning. He and Zero had discussed his before.

"I see... Well, finding frames right for you might take some time, but we'll do our best, allright ? Don't be shy, or embarassed to tell me if you don't like how a pair look or anything, okay ?" The blonde woman smilled, gentely guiding the dinosaur to a stand literally covered in glasses frames. "Glasses are a bit of a fashion thing... like clothes and whatnot. It's important that you like how it looks on you and that you feel comfortable in them."

"Really ?" He hadn't really thought of it that way, he had to admit. That glasses could be like... a necklace or something. At looking at the rack and all the different ones, it made sence.

"Yes, really." She smilled, taking one pair, one of those ones with tick borders, and gentely sliding it on his nose, turning to face the mirror. "How's this ?"

Ronen turned, then frowned a bit. "I don't see any better..."

"That's because the lens in those are just clear plastic, sweetie." Visibely, the woman was used to this kind of reaction from kids. "We'll put your lens, those mades just for you, once we find one style that you like. What do you think of this ?"

"...I don't really like it." He admitted, hoping the woman would not be annoyed, but that worry died a bit as she gentely took them off. It had looked so... wierd and they had stood out so much. "I agree here... I think we should go for something less noticable, maybe..." She made a bit of an humming noise in her thought, taking another from the shelf, this time, the only thing that could be seen where the bridge and the two bits that where to stay behind the ears. This was going to be a bit complicated in Ronen's case, since he didn't... well... have external ears... But it would probably be easy to modify.

The lady gentely placed them, and, well... it was better. Much better. One could barely see them... they would be even less visible if he had his headphones on. Yes, that would be perfect, he thought, as the boy smilled. "Ill'd like to have those."

"They look great on you, sweetheart." The woman smilled, taking the frames off. "Just go with your mom for a bit... this will take a few minutes."

And, when it was all said and done... we had a sightly happier dinosaur.

Mom gave me a book today, a very pretty one, with green and leaves on it. I really like it. I wondered why it was blank at first, but she said sometimes writting about things is a good thing. It helps you focus and get things out when you don't really want to talk to someone about it.

I guess ill give it a try.

Mom's been sad recently. I havn't asked why... I mean, she never bothers me to know how I feel, unless it looks really bad. It wouldn't feel right for me to bother her, I feel.

Im getting used to my glasses... it makes drawing so much easier now, im having tons of fun with the markers she got me at the same time. They bleed all over, too... I forgot about it once then it took me an hour of scrubbing to get it off the table ! She didn't see anything, thank god. Ill have to see if I can pick up a block of special paper with my allowance if I can. I think I've seen marker proof paper...

...I guess mom was right, it does help me focus. A bit, at least. I gotta go now trough... Mom's about to make stuffed tomatoes, and I wanna help her out.

Bye !

Katrina sat on the floor inside the Fourth Wall Headquarters. She had grown a lot since the last time she had been there and at the moment she sat in front of the toychest building a tower with blocks. Though as she did this, she listened to see if anyone would come in and play with her... maybe she would see Akilah and Jacosa again? That would be very nice. But what if they both thought they were too old for playing ball now?

The necromancer sat in one of the many chairs lining the wall, her legs crossed and bobbing up and down as a thick and old looking book rested in her lap. She had hoped when they came in that other children would be around... hopefully some would come around today. She wasn't sure there was any other way to socialize her adopted daughter... though her solitary nature didn't exactly help at all.

Jacosa's dark eyes were still a bit watery as he entered the Fourth Wall Headquarters. He desperately hoped that one of the older children was there so he could ask them for advise and if they also knew that there something definately wasn't right with their families.

Quickly he pushed the door opened and was almost about to retreat as he saw Katrina's mother. She would probably tell Andraste that he'd been here and he didn't want to get back home to those liars. Somehow...

As he spotted Katrina though his eyes grew wide in amazement. She was taller now ! Uh...

"Kat ?"

Ronen was simpely walking along the street, carrying a messanger bag that contained the wads of marker-proof paper and the new colors of prismacolor markers he had just brought with his allowance money. This was so odd, bring alone like this... usually Zero was with him. But right now... she was at the hospital with Nebula, probably... And Wren had said it was okay for him to go alone as long as he was careful.

He almost passed in front of the familiar building without stopping, being so lost in his thoughts, but actually stopped. Hadn't he been there with mom before ? Curiosity took him over and he peeked in the door. Yes, the interior did seem a bit familiar... As did the brown furred one that was near the door. And he looked a bit... sad ?

The dinosaur's shy nature made it so that he pondered simpely going on... he seemed to be talking to the other girl there, and he didn't want to bother them... But on the flipside, he had been walking for a bit, and his legs where tired.

So, he went inside the building as sillently as possible, hoping not to disturb anyone as he looked for a place to sit for a bit.

The pup's ears perked as she heard the door open and she turned to look at Jacosa. "Cosa!" Grinning from ear to ear she leapt up and ran over to him as fast as her slightly larger body could carry her. Once near him, she embraced him into a hug

"Look! I'm big now too! And-..." As she pulled away, she smelled tears and realized the look on his face wasn't happy at all. "... Cosa? What's wrong?"

Brown eyes spotted the dinosaur as well and she gave a smile to him as he came inside. From what she could remember, Katrina hadn't met him before.

Kitara's ears perked and she turned to watch the otter come inside and her daughter run to him. Then another child entered and she gave him a warm smile. Her daughter would content whatever seemed to be wrong with Jacosa for now. Though where was his mother?

"Hello there." She said sweetly to the steggo.

"GEEEEYAHAHAHAHA!"

Akilahs voice was shrill and thrilled as his sandles clapped against the sidewalk, tail whipping to and fro energetically. The meerkat was shrieking and almost giggling, ears flat against his skull as the young boy wrenched the door to the HQ open.

"AKILAH LIVES!"

So he'd grown up a little. Well. Physically anyway. He was FREE from Iamel and his dads and his siblings for a short while! Escaping at the mall had a LOT to do with his happiness, tugging at his ear piercing and.. pause. Blinking. "Cosa? Kat? HI! And...a scaley dude. Hey there scaley dude!"

"Ello." The little stegosorus said to the woman, with a faint smile. His eyes then turned back so Cosa with a bit of worry. The question had allready been asked, so it was no use to repeat it. But he didn't like to see other people sad, not at all. So, he found himself worrying.

Akilah's loud arrival almost sent the poor boy to the celling... well, at least the scream did. It took a moment for the dinosaur to collect himself, and replace the glasses on his nose. "Hey there."

A small grin was revealed on the otter's face as Katrina hugged him. "Woah cool, Kat..." His mouth nearly dropped as he saw two other familiar figures enter. One of them looked bit like Keela...and sounded like Keela...

"You all...GREW ?" The otter scratched his head and wondered if something definately strange was going on. As he listened to Katrina's question so his tail stopped waving and curled up against his feet.

He knew there was a bathroom in here. He had to show them, but not with Kat's Mom around. She would tell his Mom...wait, she wasn't his Mom.

"Wanna see something cool ? I can show you in the bathroom." The otter pointed at a small door and blinked several times, still amazed about the changed friends.

The child's head turned to a noise outside, then drew back and she visably winced as Akilah made his grand entrance. "Hi... Akilah!" A clawed finger scratched at the inside of her ears. Ow. He was loud.

"Cool? Yeah!" Katrina's tail wagged behind her, though slower this time as she could somehow sense something was still wrong with her friend.

The reaper winced slightly as well. It seemed like the little meerkat had grown too. Sympathy to his father for having to listen to him.

It seemed like... all of the children around were without their parents. How odd. Though it looked like she would have to play babysitter for now.

Akilah beamed at jacosa, ears twitching a little with a giggle. "Uh huh! Lookit! I can TALK now~ Talk talk talk and talk and... what're we lookin' for, huh?" He bounced to his otter friend, fingers moving to scritch at Kats ears and waving his tail enthusiastically. "C'mon! Let's go play a game! Or somethin--Why're your eyes all red, Cosa, huh?"

"And hi again, scaly dude!" The meerkat twisted around again to the groovin' stego, claws flexing in a wave. "Your eyes aren't red! So somethin's wrong, yea?"

Jacosa's mouth formed a grin although he didn't want to grin. It was fake. A lot of fake today he thought silently and pointed at the bathroom after looking at Ronen for a short time. He wasn't such a close friend he was easier to look at for the moment.

Quickly the otter moved into the other room and pulled a bucket out of some kind of cupboard he had found. "I can move water without my hands...it's magic." He whispered and nodded

"No cheating, somebody can fill in the water." His paws held out the blue bucket to one of the other Fourth Wallers.

"Hey again... Akilah was it ? Well, my name is Ronen..." The dinosaur said softly, hoping the meekat would start using his actual name or something. Scaly dude sounded too much like the kind of things he got at school for him to like it.

There was definitively something with Cosa, and he could tell... expecially with the way the otter looked at him for some reason. It didn't make him unconfortable... but it was a bit wierd. That, and he looked like he had been crying...

Before he could ask as well, however, the otter had bolted to the bathroom. So, adjusting his glasses, he followed, and a non-existant eyebrow seemed to rise as he mentionned moving water without his hands.

"Really ?" Zero had told him plenty about people having abilities of their own, but... It wasn't that he didn't believe him, he was just a bit surprised. He took the bucket from Cosa's hands gentely and went to fill it witj lukewarm water.

"I never heard of anyone like us doing something like that before..." He whispered as well.

The canine's ears twitched as she watched Akilah jump around like some little creature on crack. "'Kilah... 'KILAH!" How was she supposed to gets this meerkat's attention?! "Les' go follow 'Cosa." Grabbing his arm, she dragged him into the bathroom.

Katrina wasn't very partial to water, so she allowed Ronan to fill up the bucket. "Move water...?" She blinked her brown eyes and watched her friend. "I know mommy and auntie and can move fire. Is it like that?" She inquired.

"Ronen? Like a samurai? Serious?! You're a samurai! That's so totally awesome! Yeah! I'm Akilah! Hi!" The meerkat waved vigorously before getting his attention pulled away by his favorite favorite otter and right before he was about to reply --

"GAK! Kat!" He whined deep in his throat, letting himself be dragged, tail drooping a little. "Cosa, you can do stuff with water? Can you make it rain? Make it rain! Let's do a rain dance! Rain rain come away don't leave till a nother day! Raaaaaaain~"

...oooh yeah. Someone slipped this kid some mental Mountian Dew. "Hey, samurai! Kat! Let's do a rain dance and help Cosa! Would that help, Cosa~?"

Jacosa had to grin as he heard Keela's use of words. It so reminded him of the strange chirping he had done all the time. It was fun that finally some kids his age were around, but it would have been better if he had been happy.

Looking at Ronen he nodded gladly. Finally somebody was doing something so he could show it to them. "Yes, I don't know how, but it works. Perhaps...perhaps you can do it too...somehow..."

The otter had now started to whisper and frowned slightly as Akilah talked so loudly and Kat mentioned her mother. "Don't tell anybody about it ! NOBODY...k ? It's all secret. Not even your Mommy, Kat."

He had heard all of their words, but he blended them out for a moment as he focused on the liquid inside the bucket. He thought about storms and wirlwinds and...slowly swirls appeared on the water's surface.

Well... Samurai was better than Scaly. He could tolerate that, mostly.

"I don't think we need to do a rain dance..." He commented, clutching his messanger bag and croutching to look at the water, nodding then Cosa told them all not to tell anyone. He wouldn't tell a soul. He doubted he could do anything like this, however.

"...Whoah..." Was the quite amazement the steggo let out when the water did start moving, red eyes wide.

"Not even my mommy...?" But... why not? She was sure her mom would be really happy for Jacosa and praise him and maybe even let them have some cookies or something!

The mutt stared at the water, ears perking as it started to move on it's own. "Wooooooooooow... You're doing that?!"

"Yeah..I'm doing that." Jacosa mumbled and stopped immediately as the headache came back. It was a thumping sound right behind his fronthead.

His sad eyes turned to Kat. "Because your mommy would tell my mommy and she doesn't know that I'm here...because...because.." The otter had to swallow his tears and looked at the floor. "Because she's not my mommy, I'm from a hole from another world..." His tail curled around his ankle and Jacosa silenced himself.

Suddently, things where starting to make sence. "Is that why you look so sad, Cosa... ?" The steggo asked, face soft, not really knowing what to do or say. He had always known Zero was not his brith mother, and even if he hadn't, she had told him as soon as he had been old enough to understand, very well used to it due to the countless children she had - all adopted.

"I came from here, too." He said, not sure if it would help or not. "My true mama and papa are dead. Zero never told me that they where, but I just... know." Ronen had his big red eyes on the otter. "...Im not too sure how I can help you feel better."

"... Wha?" Katrina looked down at her friend with a puzzled expression, then looked over as the dinosaur spoke and nodded in agreement with him. "My mommy isn't my real mommy either... but I think my real mommy is still alive." Though she failed to mention anything about her birth father. "I just kinda know too, somehow. I think." How DID she know...?

Jacosa was shocked. All of them were adopted ? That just couldn't be true. "They lied to me. And they will like Nila more, because she's the real baby." Trying to hold back his tears the otter watched the others.

"Do you think we can go back and meet them one day ?" An almost pleading look was sent to Kat and Ronen. He just wanted to leave, he didn't like this situation. It was bad.

Ronen pondered this for a moment, and finally sighed. "I don't know, Cosa. I really don't know. I havn't really thought about it... After all, if I was to go back... There wouldn't be anyone waiting for me, so I don't see the point. I can try to ask Zero, but that might not be too good of an idea either..." After all, Cosa had said to tell no one. "Im sorry, I really don't know."

The steggo shook his head, not liking to see his friend so sad - he almost felt like crying, himself. "Do you have somewhere to go to ? I mean, you can't just stay in the streets or things like that.... It's not really safe."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 06, 2006 10:56 am

Cosa figured out he was adopted... It seemed to make him pretty sad. I... hope he'll be okay. Im not too sure if I actually helped or not...

I hate seeing others sad. I just do, im not too sure why or anything.

When I stopped at the agency earlier on my way back from the shop - that's when I figured out Cosa was sad - he showed me that he could move water. I tried to move water earlier, but I wasn't able to do it. Maybe im not doing it right, or maybe I just can't do it. It was really neat too.

I just hope Cosa will feel better soon.

Quote:
Zero visibely had an idea in mind, as she walked along the street, a piece of paper in hand. On it was scribbeled an address, in a barely readable handwriting. It seemed that the woman herself had problems reading her own handwriting, as she squinted.

Ronen followed not too far behind, clutching his messenger bag, as if scared to lose it. His mother had insisted he come, but he wasn't quite sure why.

Eventually, Zero stopped in front of an house. "Well, I think that's it."

"Are you sure ?" Ronen asked, standing on his tip-toes to double-check the words and numbers on paper. It wasn't that he didn't trust his mother, it was more that her handwriting was infamous for causing all kind of embarassing mixups.

"Im pretty sure." The reploid admitted, squinting. "...Ronen, is that a 0 or a 6... ?"

The little steggo sighed. "Mom... I think ill be the one to note down the address next time."

"Agreed." The blue haired woman mentionned her son closer as she headed torward the door and knocked.

Quote:
The boy who answered the door hovered at some indeterminate age between youth and adult, with a head of blond hair and a smile somehow brighter. He paused a moment, peering at the two with no sign of surprise at seeing a stegosaurus on his doorstep before tilting his head. "May I help you?" he asked, as the smell of freshly-baked cookies wafted out the door.

Quote:
Ronen visibely was trying to make himself as tiny as possible once the door opened, halfaway hidden behind Zero's legs and clutching his bag. The only move that Zero did to counter this was scoot a bit to the right almost on reflex - after all, he couldn't hide behind her all the time.

"Excuse me, but is Trio around ?"

Oh, please let it be the right address...

Quote:
"Oh, of course!" the boy brightened visibly, stepping back to wave them inside. "She's in the back yard," he added, looking thoughtfully at Ronen once more before asking, "May I bring either of you anything to drink?"

Quote:
Oh, whew !

"Im fine, thank you." She nodded, walking inside with Ronen following. It took a few seconds before the boy realised Zero would not speak for him. "Would it be possible to get some juice, please ?"

Quote:
"Of course," the blond said brightly, smiling at Ronen with warmth. "Apple or orange?" Choices upon choices, it seemed.

Quote:
Ronen seemed to ponder for a moment, before finally answering. "Apple, please."

Quote:
He nodded, pointing to a door down the hall. "That's the back door. There are a few small creatures about, so please be careful where you step. I'll be out with drinks momentarily." Clearly, he fancied himself something of a butler.

Quote:
Zero nodded, gentely taking Ronen's hand and making her way, mindful of where she set foot. Ronen was doing much the same - with how many pixas lived into his mother's house, he had learned to watch his steps a long time ago.

Quote:
The back yard was fairly clear, all things considered. There were sounds of splashing from the side yard, and Trio rested on the deck, a book in one hand as she read under the shade of a huge tree with a veritable tree mansion nested in its branches. There were steps curling around the trunk of the tree, rather than a ladder. In the corner of a flowerbed, a rust-colored feline, larger than normal housecats and clearly somewhat humanoid in nature, seemed to be stalking something tiny moving in the dirt.

Quote:
Zero and Ronen made their way to the backyard sillently, and the woman smilled a bit at the sight of Trio reading. She made her way and knelt in front of the blonde, trying not to startle her. "Hey, Trio !"

Ronen watched this for a moment, but then seemed to take more interest to the feline. While a bit too shy to approach her - what if she laughed at him like most other children did ? - but he peeked, visibely trying to distingish what she was trying to follow.

Quote:
Trio blinked, looking up before recognizing her friend. "Zero! Hey there," she said, setting the book aside and leaning over to hug Zero. "Did Az let you in?" It was only after the question that she caught sight of Ronen, and blinked once more in surprise, peering at Ronen curiously. "Is... he?..." she asked, a bit hesitant with the gender, "with you?"

Quote:
"Well, if you mean the blonde boy, then yes." She chirped, hugging back. "Ah, yes. He is. Ronen is one of my sons - I thought you might want to meet him." The reploid glanced to the side at the steggo, who was still peering. "And I was hoping he could meet one of the girls as well."

Quote:
Trio grinned widely at that. "Congratulations! I'm glad you brought him over. Is he... normally that shy?" she asked, watching him watch Makana for several long moments.

Quote:
"Well, yes." She answered, a bit lower. "He's... had alot of issues at school with people teasing him. I was thinking making a few friends might make him a bit more confident in himself..." The reploid sighed. "This is the first time something like that happened... I probably chose the wrong school, but I didn't want him to feel different than the other children."

Quote:
Trio reached out, patting Zero's arm. "Kids are not the sweet innocents we like to believe," she murmured softly, content now that he was watching the right daughter. "They're vicious little things with their peers, really. He'll find true friends."

Quote:
"I know..." Zero shook her head a bit. "He's got one or two, but he doesn't really sees them that much. Shiku's starting to get in trouble of his own trying to stick up for him."

Ronen, visibely, wasn't going to move anytime soon, eyes a bit curious as he still couldn't spot what the little cat girl was trying to find. He straightned his glasses a bit, hoping it would help.

Quote:
"Makana?" Trio called out, lifting her voice to catch the feline's attention. "We've got company!" The girl jerked around, one hand lifting to adjust her glasses where they rested on her face as wide golden eyes peered at Ronen for a moment before she reached down to the dirt, gathering up a tiny creature that seemed nearly exactly the same color she was. The creature was deposited in the front pocket of her overalls as she rose, glancing warily at Trio for a moment before padding slowly toward Ronen.

Quote:
Ronen seemed to almost freeze as she made her way torward him, but still found himself glancing at the odd little creature - what was this ? He's never quite seen anything like this before.

"A- Hello..." He finally let out, clutching his bag a bit nervously.

Quote:
Makana paused at the voice, then smiled softly, her lips closed to prevent her teeth showing. Her ears, which had been half-flattened slowly swiveled to perk up. "H-hi," she murmured softly, scrubbing one dirty paw against the leg of her denim overalls.

Quote:
Zero couldn't help but smile a bit as she watched the scene absentmindely - she seemed as shy as he was.

Ronen, in turn, smilled a bit. "My name is Ronen." He said slowly. "What's your name ?"

Quote:
The gentle question earned a bit more of a smile from her, the tiniest hint of teeth visible now. "Makana," she murmured, then lifted a hand to cup just in front of her pocket. "This is Mouse."

Quote:
Mouse definitively has Ronen curious, as he glanced. "Do you mind if I pet her, Makana ?" Well, it looked like an her.

Quote:
Makana giggled slightly at that, lifting Mouse back out of her pocket. "Technically, it's an 'it'," she said softly, moving to stand just in front of him, with Mouse cupped in her hands. "But I've always kind of thought of it as a 'he'." Mouse, for his part, peered curiously up at Ronen before hopping slightly.

Quote:
"Ahhh." He moved to gentely stroke behind it's ears. "I've never seen anything like it before. Mom has alot of pets, but nothing quite like this." He smilled. "It's very cute."

Quote:
"It's called a Kinoko," Makana offered, warming more as Ronen proved he wasn't going to put her pet in any danger. "Mama has a few of them. He likes sweet things," she added, wrinkling her nose.

Quote:
"Sweet things ? Like candies ?" Ronen blinked, not stopping his soft petting. It did sound a bit unusual to him.

Quote:
She nodded, tapping his arm before moving to curl up on the grass, placing Mouse down between them. The little creature clearly thought that Ronen must have a treat for him, for he waddled over, bouncing slightly just at Ronen's feet.

Quote:
Ronen sat beside her, letting his bag down and removing the strap from his shoulder, let it did not leave his side. Visibely, whatever was in there was very precious to him. He couldn't help but laugh a bit as Mouse started his jumping, visibely getting the idea as he opened the bag. "Let's see what I might have in there..."

Quote:
Makana leaned forward a bit, obviously curious about what could be so precious, but not quite comfortable enough to come right out and ask yet.

Quote:
A peek revealed some kind of book, safely tucked into a separate pocket inside the bag, and various things. Markers, lead pencils, erasers... among others. He continued to rumble through, until he found what he was looking for. "Is a gumdrop okay ?" The steggo asked, visibely not having noticed a thing.

Quote:
Makana nodded, while Mouse's jumping increased dramatically at the mention. Clearly, that was a word he understood. "He likes gumdrops. They make him sticky," she smiled, shifting to try to see the title of the book curiously. She liked books!

Quote:
Again, Ronen couldn't help but laugh at the little's kinoko's action. He almost looked like if he was allready on a sugar rush ! He took one gumdrop from the bag and put it back in place. holding it right in front of the little creature. "There you go~"

As far as Makana could see, the book did not seem to have a title at all, as the spine was blank. The book itself was white with a bit of shifting colors.

Quote:
The kinoko 'reached' for the gumdrop with stubby little protusions that might qualify for arms, if one was being generous. Once his prize was his, he seemed to squat down, placing the gumdrop in the grass and chewing the top with an open, toothless mouth.

"What's this?" Makana asked, crawling a bit forward and reaching to point at the book with one careful claw, not coming anywhere close to touching it.

Quote:
Ronen observed Mouse's actions for a moment, visibely a bit amused, until the question brought him out of his reverie, and he turned to figure out what the cat girl was asking out.

"A sketchbook." He answered. "I draw pictures in it."

Quote:
Pictures? That was something NONE of her family did. "Can I see?" she asked, clearly awed by the thought.

Quote:
Ronen blushed a bit. "Okay." The steggo gentely pulled the book out of it's pocket, and it became evident that the designs on the books where handmade. He plopped it on his knees, as it was a bit big, and flipped it open.

Quote:
Makana moved to sit right beside him, leaning in until her arm pressed against his, so that she could get a good view. "Who's this?" she asked softly, fascinated and delighted at the first sight of the pictures.

Quote:
"It's my mom." He grinned. "She's talking to your mom over there." The little steggo pointed. "The boy with her is my uncle."

Quote:
Makana peered over, then clapped softly. "That's neat! I have an uncle, too," she added. "He likes cooking."

At that moment, Makana's 'uncle' appeared with two glasses, one with an amber colored liquid that must be apple juice, and the other filled with what looked to be milk. "Here you go, kids," he smiled, setting them down nearby before blinking at Mouse. "I see someone else brought a treat for him today..."

Quote:
"Thank you." He answered, blushing a little bit. Not many people beside his family and his art teachers actually thoughts his drawings where neat. "My uncle can't cook at all." He laughed.

"Thank you." He have a slight bow as he took the glass. "I did, I think he likes it !"

Quote:
"He loves it," Makana confirmed, grinning up at Aziraphale before taking the glass with both hands. "Thank you, Az." She settled back next to Ronen, looking at him curiously. "Can I see more?"

Quote:
"Okay !" After figuring out that she wouldn't laugh at him or his drawings, he seeming much more inclined to show then, gentely turning the page. "That's Shiku, he's my big brother." He grinned. "On the other page, well, it's just a person I drew one day. I don't quite know who he is, but he came to mind."

Quote:
"Mama mentioned that my sister once met someone named Shiku," Makana recalled, reaching out to touch the picture with a delicate paw. "She was telling Daddy that she ought to get them together again."

Quote:
"Hmm... Then that ought to be him, since my mom and your mom know each other." He blinked. "I don't remember him telling anything about it, but then he doesn't really tell me about the people he meet."

Quote:
"Annora spends most of her time with Etain," Makana nodded, not sounding particularly disappointed by the thought. "I haven't met as many people as she has," she admitted, assuming a great deal about her more outgoing sister. "I'm not as good at making friends."

Quote:
"Im not really good at making friends either." He seemed pretty sad at the thought. "Most kids just laugh at me because I don't have fur or anything. Or that I don't play in sports and draw instead. Mom says it's not my fault, but im not sure."

Quote:
"Annora doesn't have fur," Makana pointed out thoughtfully. "Or Etain, or Kikuei or Theda. Nico does, but he can't play sports yet. He's still a baby." She leaned back, looking up at the sky. "I don't play sports. But I can't draw. I usually read and play with Mouse."

Quote:
"I like reading too." Ronen was thoughtful for a moment. "I draw what I see when im reading a book sometime." He started flipping the pages until he found what he was looking for - the pictures of a mermaid laying on rocks watching the mainland. "I drew this after I read the little mermaid, have you ever read that ?"

Quote:
Makana's eyes glowed, and she leaned in. "I read it! We have it in the library for everyone to read, and I read it a little bit ago. Do you have a picture of the seafoam, too?" she asked curiously.

Quote:
"Hmm... I don't think I do. Not in this book at least. I have alot of sketchbooks, but I only carry the one that still has blank sheets in it, because I can only fit one in my bag."

He seemed to ponder for a moment, but then he added. "I can try to draw it, if you want."

Quote:
Makana tilted her head, curious about how he could possibly manage it. "Would you?" It was on the tip of her tongue to ask if she could go to his place to see the other sketchbooks before she remembered one of the bits of politeness her mother had ensured they all knew - 'never invite yourself to someone else's house.'

Quote:
"I can try..." He laid the book flat on the grass, and flipped the pages until he found one that had nothing on it. One hand moved into the bag until he found and took out a pencil and eraser and, after staring at the blank sheet and twirling the pencil into his hand for a few seconds, began to put down very light lines on the paper.

Quote:
Makana watched in fascination, and Mouse moved his gumdrop until he was chewing it just beside the paper, also watching Ronen work.

Quote:
It was almost as if he was too much into his little world to notice the fact, continuing to draw the lines and going over those he wanted to keep, the paler lines able to be erased without any problem or leaving a mark behind. He stopped to take a sip from the glass of apple juice and then went back to his task.

Quote:
Makana's attention occasionally shifted to Mouse, but mostly stayed on the paper, a fascinated, softly-pleased smile on her face as she watched blank paper transform into a picture. How incredible to have such a skill...

Quote:
It definitively took some time, but the picture was slowly starting to look more and more complete, with darker lines and the fact that he had started to put down little details. He visibely was working very hard to make it as perfect as he could - it was the first time he was actually drawing for someone else.

Quote:
Makana seemed to have a fair amount of patience, though she eventually shifted into a more comfortable position, curled up with her tailtip tapping lazily at the grass and her eyes drooping a little. Mouse, on the other hand, was easily bored, and as soon as he'd finished his treat, he went toddling off toward Trio, clearly looking for a second. Dirt clung to his stubby arms and stem, held there by the sticky sugar.

Quote:
Eventually, Ronen seemed to deem it worthy, but it was not over just yet. In fact, he reached into his bag once again, making a bumch of prismacolor markers out, and, taking one, he started working on the colors, one by one, without really bothering to ink.

Zero had taken to sit against the tree beside her friend, and the arrival of the kinoko caught her attention.

"Oh, it looks like we have a little visitor." She giggeled.

Quote:
Trio laughed, watching the mushroom creature come to a stop just in front of Zero and start his hopping little begging again. "It's rare Makana focuses her attention on any one thing enough to lose track of him," she said softly.

Quote:
"Hmm." She sent a glance to where the kids where, then finally returned her gaze to the little creature. "He's her pet ? I've been pondering about getting a pet for Ronen. One that would be all his', I mean. He seems to like the pixas even if he's paranoid he's going to step on one." She suddently giggeled again. "What are you jumping for, cutie ?"

Quote:
"He wants candy," Trio laughed. "Apparently, that's what they eat. Makana usually feeds him a peppermint or butterscotch hard candy just before bed, so that he'll stay happy in his pot all night," Trio said, chuckling. "Well, many pixas are smart enough to avoid feet, for the most part," she pointed out.

Quote:
"I know, and I told him that, but I guess that it's a mix of how tiny they are, and the fact there's so many of them... And the fact my little boy would feel horrible if he even had to hurt a fly." She smilled.

"Really, uh." She glanced at the little kinoko. "And it seems like I am the hand that feed for now, uh ? Let's see..." She rummaged thought her pocket, then grinned, taking an hand out and flipping the mint candy she had found in between her fingers in order to unwarp it. "How's that for your taste buds, cutie ?"

Quote:
She couldn't help but giggle, visibely finding Mouse downright adorable. "Maybe that can be done." Now, that was quite an idea... She could probably squeeze one more pixa in. Of course, she always found a way.

Quote:
Trio smiled, nodding. "I have several ready for adoption here that I just haven't taken to the shop. Why don't we take a look before you leave today?" she suggested, watching as the combination of attention and warm sunlight ensured that her daughter slowly fell asleep.

Quote:
"That sounds like a good idea." She nodded. Ronen visibely did not notice a thing, as he continued to color, but the little steggo himself seemed to feel a bit sleepy. It was the perfect temperature for a nap, after all.

Quote:
Trio watched a while longer, then noted softly to Zero, "We might want to roust the kids if we don't want them sleeping away the afternoon..."

Quote:
"Hmm... That would probably be a good thing, yes." If Ronen slept too much during the afternoon, it became virtually impossible to get him to bed at night, which wasn't something Zero liked to have to deal with on a dayly basis.

Ronen had finally finished his drawing, gave out a yawn... and then finally noticed the asleep Makana. He froze there with a priceless expression, seeming to wonder if she felt asleep because he had been taking way too long, and weither or not he should wake her up.

Quote:
Trio paused for a moment, grinning at the look on Ronen's face a moment before getting an impish expression. She clicked just loud enough for him to hear, waving him over.

Quote:
Ronen perked and glanced at Trio, head tilting, and eventually he slid the markers back into the bag, sliding the bag and the sketchbook next to Makana before coming over.

Quote:
"Would you get her up?" Trio suggested, rising and picking up Mouse. She held out the sticky little creature for Ronen to take. "I'd like the two of you to come inside, and perhaps Makana can show you her room."

Quote:
He nodded softly, gentely taking Mouse in one hand, and slowly walking back and croutching beside the cat girl, gentely shaking her with his free hand. "Makana... ? Im done the picture, and your mom wants us to come inside. Im sorry it took so long."

Quote:
Makana blinked slowly awake, then peered up at him, a sleepy smile on her face. "It's done?" she asked, sounding content.

Quote:
"Yeah." He smilled, taking the sketchbook and holding it open for her to see.

Quote:
She moved to kneel instead of lie down, looking at it curiously for a moment before her eyes lit up. "You drew this? While I was sleeping?"

Quote:
"Well, I finished it while you where sleeping." He gave a shy little smile.

Quote:
"I like it," she said softly, reaching to hold the sketchbook herself. "I wish I could draw like that."

Quote:
"It takes alot of practice." He said, softly. "I've been drawing for a long time." He carefully slid the sketchbook into his bag and slid the strap over his shoulder. "We should go inside... Your mom wanted us to go in."

Quote:
Makana nodded, yawning wide and showing off a nice set of healthy, very sharp teeth before moving to take Mouse from him. "Are you staying for a while?" she asked, gathering up her glass and his once Mouse was in her pocket.

Quote:
"I don't know." He shrugged, having no idea what time it was to begin with. He gentely slid the little kinoko back into her hands.

Quote:
Makana nodded, making her way up to the deck and then inside slowly, having adjusted her glasses. They seemed to have begun to warp ever so slightly, sitting just a little crooked on her face because of the way she slept with them on.

Quote:
Ronen followed, himself straightning his glasses on pure reflex, as he saw her do so.

Quote:
"We could play a game, if you're going to be here a while?" she suggested, recalling the assortment of boardgames in the playroom.

Quote:
"Yeah, ill'd have to ask mom, tho." He shrugged, as he followed, to let Makana get inside first. After all, it was her house, so it made sence she would go inside first.

Quote:
Makana led the way to the kitchen, setting down the glasses on the counter before nodding toward the living room. "They're probably in there," she said.

Quote:
Ronen nodded, still wondering why they both needed to go inside all of sudden, as he peeked into the room.

Quote:
Trio smiled, holding on one hand what looked to be almost a living doll, shaped rather like Makana with dark red wings and blue and grey fur. "Ronen?" she asked, waving them both forward. "I'd like you to meet Pwyll."

Quote:
Zero was in the room as well, but sillent, a little smile on her face as she watched this on.

Ronen blinked, then got closer. It looked kind of like Makana, but it was so tiny !

"Hi." He said softly, not knowing if the tiny cat-like creature would answer him or not.

Quote:
Eyes small but still cool assessed Ronen for several seconds before the creature nodded to him, folding his arms over his chest. "Trio tells me you like pixas."

Quote:
"Mom has alot of them." He said. "They're nice and cuddly, at least most of them are."

Quote:
Makana crept up behind Ronen, curious about this turn of events as well. Pwyll rarely talked to her, though the two weren't on bad terms, by any means.

"I'm told you're very careful not to hurt them," Pwyll continued, wings fluttering slightly.

Quote:
"I am. I don't want to step on one on accident, ill't hurt them." He announced. "And I don't like seeing others hurt."

Quote:
That earned a sage nod from the Keeper, and he tilted his head. "It's been suggested to me that you might like a pet, rather like Makana's 'Mouse'," he added.

Quote:
Ronen pondered this for a moment, before answering. "I think I would like that. Mom does have alot of pets, but none of them are really "mine"."

Quote:
From her watching point, Zero just barely managed not to start laughing out loud. Oh, was that ever so TRUE.

Ronen tilted to the side comicly, giving his mother an odd glance. What was so funny ? "Okay. Thank you, Pwyll. Ill do my best, promise."

Quote:
Pwyll nodded, pleased at the reaction. This was precisely what he looked for in a pixa-owner, and he lifted into the air, flying away content.

Makana blinked, watching him go before grinning at Ronen. "What sort of pixa are you going to choose?" she murmured curiously.

Quote:
"I don't know." He admitted. "Probably a cat, but im not too sure which kind of cat."

Quote:
Makana purred softly at the thought, her eyes bright. "I like cats," she offered, then twisted her head at a choking sound from Trio.

Quote:
Zero had a similar reaction, which made Ronen raise an eyebrow, so to speak. Visibely the irony flew right over his head.

"I like cats too... They're all furry, warm and cuddely." He smilled.

Quote:
Makana beamed at him, glancing at Zero. "Can I take him to show him the unclaimed pixas?" she asked, reaching for his hand with one of her paws.

Quote:
Ronen let get take his hand, and gentely closed held it as well, just a wee bit embarassed if one had to judge with the tint of red that crossed his cheeks for a few seconds.

"Of course, go ahead." Zero smiled. Those two really looked like they got along fine.

Quote:
Trio nodded, knowing neither of them would endanger the pixas. "Have fun, you two," she said gently, then glanced at Zero. "I think Makana's made a friend..."

Quote:
"Yup." She grinned, as she watched them both go off. "I think Ronen did, too."

Ronen hummed to himself as he walked home, Zero following slowly at her own pace, only making sure he did not get out of sight. She usually had no problem with letting Ronen go to places, or come back, alone, since he had proved he could be mature, but right now it was starting to get dark, and she didn't want to take any chances.

The steggo walked slowly, as well, mindful of the tiny ball of fluff that had nested herself in the little fold of his jacket, on his shoulder. It took a long time for him to finally decide himself, but, with Makana's help, he finally picked a calico, that he named Lanaka... without really knowing what the name meant or if it even meant anything. It just seemed fitting for the little pixacat, who was now purring with the sound power that would make a common housecat jealous... or maybe it was simpely because she was so close to his ear. Ronen was simpely too happy to care. He had gotten explainations on how to take care of the tiny feline, and noted them in the cover of his sketchbook, to be sure he wouldn't lose them.

Today had been wonderful, and he hoped to see Makana again soon.

You know... There was a time where like, in a movie or something, a parent find him or herself all touched or something because they suddently realise their babies arn't babies anymore, I thought it was just overraction or something.

But today, I look at my boys and realise that im feeling the same damn thing. They're all growing up so fast, and kinda out of wack... but hey, it's gaia for you. I don't think things are supposed to make too much sence in this world, so I gave up trying to find it.

It's just so odd to see them as they are now, when they used to be tiny bundles I held or rested in my lap only months ago. Ronen is starting to finally stand from himself, and Shiku stands for him a bit too much... but that's another story. I decided to send at least Ronen to Adrian for the rest of his education, this might be better AND then I won't get s**t for trying to get my kid to skip a few grades because he grew both physically and mentally. That school, I swear, is full of idiots.

For Shiku, I am not too sure yet. He insists to go wherever Ronen will go, but im not too sure if Adrian will be able to teach two. Maybe if I offer to help around with what he won't be able to do otherwise, he might. I almost always have free time during the days anyway, expecially now that the boys can mostly take care of themselves.

Sei... hell, I think the kid is smarter than I am. No problem here. Shina must be so proud of him... I just wish Hoshi was here to see it. Sei actually asked me the other day, sometime after he woke up. I wish I didn't have to... but he deserved to know. He took it farely well, I guess.

I still think it was cute when both him and Ronen teamed up to teach Shiku the basics of writing. I wish I had a camera. Maybe, if Hoshi comes back one day, Sei will have a true brother or sister ? I hope so... if only for Shina's sake.

Wow. Rantings of a old woman - over. Hah.

There was nothing better to cut short a simple walk than a sudden downpour. Zero came to realise this fact rather quickly, as her run to the nearest known building, which happened to be the Fourth Wall center, still left her soaking wet in dispice the running speed. The blue-haired woman grumped a but as she tried to wring her jacket free of water through the door, at the same time peering to see if anyone was there.

The lights were, indeed, on though the inside seemed rather still and quiet, which was odd considering all of the activity the place had seen as of late. Karma had been so caught up in new paperwork and tending to the influx of infants that she had become more or less of a hermit in her back office, seldomly seen during the hours she actually tended the desk.

It was likely she was still in the back office even now, as she never forgot to turn off the lights before leaving....electric bills were murder these days!

Upon finishing to ring out as much water than she could, Zero grungingly put it back on and, trying to shake the droplets off her feet as to not make a mess, she started wandering on inside. The place was erriely calm, a difference from the times she had been here previously... but Karma had to be there, she would probably never forget the light on - and even less the door unlocked.

"Mind giving a poor reploid a shelther from the downpour of the century ?" She asked with a playful grin when she was in what she hoped would be in the foxcoon's hearing range.

There was another moment of pause, then the sound of a door opening somewhere within the building, closing again, and the rapid shuffle of footsteps as Karma came into view. She looked, in short, like hell warmed over from the many hours of paper shuffling and pencil scratching as she squinted at the other for a moment, her brain seeming to have made off with her internal address book.

"Zero...?" she asked at last, her neurons finally firing again. "Oh man, what're YOU doing out in this godawful weather?" she asked, looking at the window blearily. It had been sprinkling when she'd gone in the back. Looked like she wasn't going to be driving home anytime soon in this either...

"Well, the weather was perfectly acceptable when I decided to walk out a few hours ago. Needless to say, my bike's at a garage and it's not like ill'd drive home in this downpour... much less walk it." She sighed, head tilting. "Need some help back there ? Looks like you got in a fight with some papers and it's currently winning..."

"Oh....no, no, I'm okay..." she said, running a hand through her bedraggled hair in a vain effort to straighten it. "I'm almost done, actually. I'm just trying to make sense of a couple odds and ends, is all. You can come watch, if you want. Maybe another kid will come tumbling out or something....would be just my luck, right?" She smiled weakly, trying to make it look genuine, but something about her expression said she might just break down crying if that happened tonight.

Nonetheless, she plodded back in the direction of her office, beckoning Zero to follow if she liked

The reploid did not really look convinced as she followed, hands in her somewhat humid jacket. "Oh man, you have a mop somewhere ? Im leaving water everywhere." She muttered, looking back at the small puddle that stood proudly where she had been seconds ago.

"In the closet, but don't worry about it." Karma told her dismissively. "It'll be dried out by morning anyway. Just don't drip on the papers and we'll be all set."

Saying so, she opened the door to the back office which was in somewhat of a state of disarray due to all of the recent paperwork. It was all filed in the appropriate places, but haphazardly so, and the several empty cans of Pepsi that lined the corner of the desk suggested the foxcoon was being powered by caffiene alone.

"The kids are all with their parents now, that's not an issue." she explained. "I never seem to run out of people who want to take them in. My problem is, after the kids are gone, sometimes the parents decide to send something through after-the-fact with no note or any indication of who its supposed to be for, so it ends up sitting here until I can figure it out."

Saying so, she approached her desk and picked up a small bone necklace, decorated with feathers and fangs. "I think this belongs to one of those raptor babies, but you can't just make assumptions, you know? And this..." she added, picking up a large ornate pouch that seemed to be filled with something "...I have no idea. It smells like sulfur and I'm afraid to open it."

Still, the blue haired woman went and mopped the newly dubbed Lake Zero before following suit, thanksfully not seeming prone to make new geographic additions to the office by the time she finally stepped in.

"Alot of them have been coming, uh ?" She rose an eyebrow. "Raptor babies ? But... didn't the letter say Ronen was the last ?" Different tribe, maybe. "Im pretty sure it's not for him, so ill'd have to agree."

The pouch caught her attention, and she finally peered at it. "How odd... why would anyone want to send sulfhur ?"

"Who knows? They send all kinds of stuff with their babies. I can only imagine its complete pandemonium over there and bringing all sorts of people out of the woodwork...even those that aren't supposed to exist." Karma seemed to pluck up her courage, now that Zero was present and fiddled with the drawstring on the pouch, loosening it and peering inside, only to turn her head away and sneeze forcefully.

"....and apparantly the stuff they send is not limited to ashes of loved ones." she said with a tone of disgust as she quickly drew the pouch tightly closed again and dropped it to the desktop. "Way to traumatize a kid before it can even talk...stress does weird things to people."

"...What the hell ?" Thanksfully there was no little ones present, or that would have been a whole new kind of traumatizing. "Now that is just batshit crazy." The woman frowned a bit. "And with no note either, that's just a win."

"Watch, I'll bet they put a note in with the ashes or something..." she sighed, looking disdainfully at the pouch. "I'M not digging around for it, though..." the idea of rifling through some total stranger's powdered remains sent a shiver of revulsion up her spine. DEFINITELY not part of the job description.

Zero eyed the pouch a bit oddly. "Ill do it, if you want." The idea didn't really seemed to enchant her either. "At least let's not traumatize the wrong kid, at least."

She hesitated and then slid the pouch across the desk to Zero. "Sure, if you want." she nodded. She saw no harm in it...what harm could one possibly do to ashes, after all? They weren't getting any deader or anything...

She took it from the desk when it was in range to do so, still eying it somewhat oddly. This was odd, but she had put her hands through possibely odder. Not that she expecially wanted to remember that. She opened it, then stopped in mid-air, as if frozen. "...They're warm... Are they supposed to ?"

Karma quirked a brow. "....no, I don't think so. Maybe its because they've been sitting near the heating vent or something. That and you just came in from being out in the cold and wet." she pointed out. The pouch hadn't felt particularly warm to her, but then she'd been cooped up in here all day.

"No... I don't think it's that. And it's getting warmer... It definitively -is-..." She finally dropped it with a hiss of pain, as it visibely got too warm to hold. "Something's not right here.... !"

Karma blinked and watched the pouch hit the floor, small curls of steam beginning to emit from the mouth of the pouch. What the....?? She stepped forward, kneeling and attempting to hook the drawstring under her finger to have a better look, but the bag seemed to choose that moment to vent a loud hiss, expelling the ashes from within into a scattering on the office floor, steam not just rising, but pumping furiously up from the scattering of gray.

"s**t -" Zero muttered, taking a step back as steam seemed to finally turn into flames. Oddly, but thanksfully, the flames seemed to remain contained to the ashes themselves as they rose and danced, dispice the copious amount of paper in the room itself. This continued on, until, finally... There was nothing but the pouch, and... a child, looking as dumbfounded and confused as the two women who watched on.

"...What..." She said, weakly.

Karma, despite looking ready to keel over with exhaustion only a few moments ago, now looked wide awake, her tail bottlebrushed out behind her. "Oh..." she said in a tremulous voice. "....oh damn..." Pouches...? They were coming in POUCHES now??

Well, that was just pain UNUSUAL. Zero shot a look at her friend, as if asking how in all living hells did she do this on a dayly basis ?

In the meantime, the feathered child tried to stand up, but stumbeled, only to fall in Zero's awaiting arms. This... this... woman ? She looked so odd. Where where her fur ? Her scales, her feathers ? What... It didn't look like she was trying to hurt her, but this was so ODD.

She remembered burning, yes. She hadn't been supposed to burn for a good year at least. Was this... ? No, no. Her parents had promised...

Right ?

"Where..." She asked, turning weakly to look at Karma. "...Where am I, miss ?"

Karma gave a sort of helpless sigh. She'd never had to actually EXPLAIN this to one of the kids before since they all came through as infants who didn't know any better. "This is Gaia." she told the firebird. "We won't hurt you...you've been sent through a rift between your world and ours. In...in your case, in a pouch."

Ouch....how lame that sounded....but then who made their kid travel by pouch ANYWAY?

So... this was it. The other side, so to speak. It was almost soothing to know, at least, and it did make her feel a bit special. Her parents had been right... They weren't sending their own kids to oblivion, at any rate,

"I see..." She answered simply, wriggeling out of Zero's grip as she attempted to stand on her own. She managed, a bit weakly... and found herself clinging to Zero's sleeve almost like a scared child, the jacket now oddly dry. As much of Zero's clothes where, after their contact with the source of the heat that was slowly lowering.

"...They must have sent me after I burnt... I wasn't supposed to..." She flowned a bit in thought. Normally, burning didn't take so long. But she had felt like she had been in darkness forever. Was that how death felt like ? If so, the girl thought, then the mortal ones probably had a good reason to fear it.

"Im sorry for startling you." She said, bowing her head politely. "My parents probably thought it was best. I wouldn't have been able to be reborn if the ashes had scattered..."

...Reborn ? "....A phoenix." Zero finally found the common sence to speak.

Karma found herself growing agitated...it seemed that the Fourth Wall was not very honest with her when it came to children of the extinct and mythical variety. That crystal they had sent through was to be the only son or daughter of stagnant gods. Ronen's egg was to be the last dinosaur.

What was going ON over there?? Was the upheaval really so bad that it was bringing out previously unheard-of races and tribes to send their offspring into a better hope for the future? It was impossible to tell, unless someone over there deemed it appropriate to give her an update on their status via letter soon. She'd not recieved any notes in quite some time.

"You're going to need somewhere to stay...." she told the little girl gently, shuffling through her papers immediately. Surely someone on her list would be willing. "I'll just make a few calls, and--"

The grip on Zero's sleeve hardened slightly, as the firebird tenced a bit, as if the finality of her situation had finally dawned on her. There was no way back home. She was going to be sent with someone to live here... in this "gaia". Possibely forever, overseeing her kin as it would grow and hopefully survive, as it had been the mission she had been training for since she could remember.

If one looked at it this way, the whole situation looked almost noble - but it couldn't remove the grief and pain she was feeling from her focus. She didn't want to be carted off to some person, she wanted to go back home, but knew this was too much of a request to give.

"...Can I stay with her ?" She finally asked softly, Zero's face turning priceless at that very second.

"Wha... ?"

"...Well, in a world of strangers, I think ill prefer one of you." She said, intence purple eyes locking on Karma. "...And it looks like I can't stay with you, so... ...Im sorry if im asking for alot, im just..." So lost. So confused. Yet the words did not follow the thought.

Karma's brow furrowed as she looked from the phoenix girl to Zero, biting her lip. "Honey, that's entirely up to Zero...I know she's already got kids of her own to worry about..." She decided this was better-suited for Zero to answer. She wasn't one to speak for other people.

Zero... ? What an... odd name. The firebird couldn't help but raise a brow, looking sideway expectenly.

"Ah... uh..." Poor Zero seemed to fret a bit. She didn't want to leave this poor girl like this, of course, but there was so many things to think about, as she started to mentally add and count. It was useless to offer the poor dear shelther only to make it harder by figuring out later on that this wasn't a good idea.

But anyone who knew the blue haired one would probably say that her answering no to something like that would be like, say... snow in the middle of july in california. It just didn't happen. "I... I think ill't be okay." She finally spoke, the child doing her best to hide her sigh of relief.

Karma eyed her uncertainly for a long minute. "....okay, if you're sure..." she relented. She'd learned better than to try and talk people out of taking on children, as usually it just escalated an argument. She made a half-hearted snatch for a packet of paperwork, succeeding instead in scattering the papers on the floor which she looked at with a sigh of disgust. "I'll mail it to you later." she told Zero.

Outside there was a tremendous thunderclap that made the lights flicker a bit and her jump. "I don't think any of us are going anywhere in this, though. If you guys want, I'll get some pillows and blankets out of the back and can set you up in the lobby for the night, and I'll sleep back here. It'd give you time to get better-acquainted, anyway. Do you need to make any calls, Zero?"

"...That'll be a good idea, yes." Zero glupped, as she basically wound up with a phoenix-addon attached to her leg. Visibely, neither where too fond of thunderstorms.

"Uh... It's okay, well..." She couldn't believe she hadn't asked the girl's NAME of all things.

"Aylen." She answered once she peered a bit, visibely understanding the unspoken question. Suddenly, however, she let go, eyes locked on a single object as she came closer to it - a staff, tilted against the wall and set aside so that no one would trip in it.

"...Miss ?" She called out, visibely adressing to Karma. "That would be mine, I think... Can I take it ?"

"Sure, go ahead." Karma told Aylen. Who was she to question? Scooping the portable phone off of the cradle, she handed it to Zero before leaving the room to head for her supply closet for pillows and blankets, both for them and for herself.

And if she remembered to, before she passed out, she would call home and tell Dave not to wait up for her. Again. He wasn't going to believe this...

They promised they would not.

The storm is still raging as I write this, in a book that this strange-looking woman has given me. She is asleep right now, this Zero lady - she is quite nice I figure, but... she looks so odd. I will have to be used to it. It was a better idea than a perfect stranger. Well, a little better. It's not like I really know her.

But to find myself here, in this world... I find myself angry. They promised. We had promised. My parents, me, and everyone else, when I was old enough to understand, we made a promise that we could continue our duty until this would itself would stop existing, until the last of it's people would pass on.

I burned for no reason at all. I have no idea how long I spend in ashes, expecially since this world's time system does not follow mine's, but it was apparently enough for my parents to panic and to be sure I wasn't going to be reborn. At least that is what I think, because I found myself here... I was too weak to carry on the promise I have spoken.

But maybe I should simpely see this as a new begining... Maybe this was fate, that I be sent here. To discover that my people where not sending their children to oblivion. To see by myself... and perhaps guide those who might wish it.

Perhaps it is. But at any rate, I need time to collect myself, understand what is happening, and properly move on before doing so. This is a kind of odd grief - knowing I will never see my parents again.

Perhaps this was not a rushed decision on their end. Perhaps they are feeling the same as I am. And that, I may never know for sure...

And as all things did, rain was eventually remplaced by the fun again, in the morning after that fateful night. Ronen helped Sei with picking up the table and washing the dishes before the blonde left to his room, and he was left behind, waiting. His mother would come home, as she had called early in the morning - but there was the mention of another child. And the voice she had said the word child let to suppose that it wasn't simpely another baby - that it was something a bit more complicated indeed. He picked up his sketchbook to draw and the next hour passed before he could even think about it, the sound of the door opening being the only thing that caught him out of that reverie, as he perked. There was Zero... and... there was the "child". Child indeed !

The little girl did not seem abnormally shy, or abnormally lost - a bit of confusion perhaps, but there was no screaming fit of tears. She took a few tentative steps, shopping bag in one hand (GOD had that been boring, but oh so nessesary - expecially since she had been informed she would be the only other lady of the house. And she would not wear boy clothes, no.) and staff clutched in another, fire-colored wings moving back in forth as if to calm herself.

"Just put it on the table for now, Aylen, ill go put it all in your room in a bit." After all... the firebird had the boys to meet, which made Zero bite her lip with a bit of worry. This was another wierd case where she would never be the parent figure - at least she had experience with that now, so it wasn't as wierd of a notion than it was before Sei was born.

Ronen remained sillent, not quite knowing what to say, or what he should even be doing, his shyness kicking in thousandfolds as he simpely watched.

Aylen did as she was told, then finally say the dinosaur, and tilted her head a bit. His allure... and that necklace, the type of jewelry...

Perhaps she had found the last of Bashal Aran before she would even think about searching for him. And he looked so shy, ah. Like so many of that tribe was. It was what she had been told, as she had never seen any of the inhabitants itself, yet it was something the high priests spoke about very often. The last had survived... maybe one day, she would find a way to calm their fear.

"Hello." She said simpely, giving a small bow. "My name is Aylen, and you are... ?" After all, there was no need for formalities. 'Aylen Shanza, priestess-in-training of the order of the firebird' had always been a mouthful here. And it would mean nothing to the blue one that stood in front of her, sightly dumbfounded.

"Ah... Uh.... Ronen." He said simpely, still a bit stunned as the child walked past and took a peek into his sketchbook.

"Wow, did you draw this ? It looks very good." She had never seen someone draw like that before, but she wasn't lying at all - it did look amazing.

"Eh, it's... not that good, and it isn't really finished yet, But I did." Ronen's tail waved behind himself nervously as Aylen spun her staff in her hand and looked over at him.

"Well, I think it's pretty." The firebird said, simpely. "There are enough things in this world that will judge everyone and everything... You don't need to add to it yourself, don't you ?"

"Y... Yeah, you're right." He had to admit, as the girl gave him some kind of bird-like equivalent of a smile.

"See ? People tend to be happier when they don't judge themselves. And some would say that each piece of art is beautiful, because it came from the soul, so... If anyone dislikes, it's their problem." She flipped the book closed and handed it over.
"This looks like a big house..."

"Yeah... It is. Ill show you, okay ?" Tucking the book under his arm, the two went to do just that.

Dear my lord, this boy is going to drive me crazy.

I can't say he's worse than the blue djinn (I believe I owe some sanity loss to him allready), but if he only could look where he is putting his things !!! Just five minutes ago, I had to help Ronen find one of his markers that was actually tucked in between his glasses and head. He can be so absent minded sometimes ! Im sure that if he put things back in order after he used them, it couldn't hurt, either.

It is so odd. I am sitting there. writting and whinning to a book, and while I do miss home awfully... I... At this point, if I was given the option to go back, I don't think I could.

This is so odd.. I can't even understand myself anymore. What is supposed to be my place in this world ?

((Backdated to before christmas))

"Is it straight, now ?"

Ah, the question that had been asked for about 10 times in the past hour. Ronen simpely watched up from his laying spot on the hardwood floor, where he was drawing in his sketchbook. "...Nope." He announced after a tilt of the head, and returned to drawing. Aylen, the firebird girl, looked up as well after the fact. "A bit more to the left, I think, Zero..." Before her attention returned to Ronen's drawing. It was funny how those two could act like complete sibilings when they where not, but right now she was in no mood to be laughing.

It was Zero vs the christmas tree, and so far, the stupid tree was winning. "Damnit, the shopkeeper told me it was easy to set up !"

The two former inhabitants of the Fourth Wall where locked in their own little world, so it was Sei who offered his own bit of helpful advice. "Maybe he just wamted to sell more tree ?"

Sillence.

"...Screw this thing, im getting Wren." She mumbeled, jumping off her ladder and stomping off in an huff. They would never admit it, but the 3 where just a little bit amused...

Dear diary :

I really wish those mean people would leave me alone. Aylen said it's not my fault, but... why are they always being mean to me ? One broke my glasses yesterday, and Zero wasn't too happy. She told me it wasn't my fault, too, and that I would need to fight back one day, but... that's where my problem is. I can't. I just can't. Im not that way... I don't like conflict, I don't like confrontation. It makes me feel wierd inside and I hate it. But it has to be my fault if they won't stop, right ? Even if mom and Aylen say otherwise...

I just want this to stop, once and for all. I don't want to be afraid to go to school anymore. I was to go to college in art, but if people keep on hurting me, how am I supposed to want to ?

I just don't know anymore, if it's all worth it.
