Curiosity seems to get the best of most. Perhaps she was pushing her luck, but she did not see the harm in simply mentioning the name to her spirit, even if only in passing.

She took a deep breath, smiling as the spirit danced forward towards her, apparently trying to engage its friend in a game. She grinned widely, extending a hand as though to beckon it forward.

"Hey, there," she said jauntily, no longer restricted to that quiet tone she had always used during their first interactions. "You know, I was looking through names the other day. Everyone has to have a name, after all."

The spirit seemed to consider her words before giving its traditional flutter of assent. She smiled all the more.

"Kikuei is a neat name. I think so, anyway. It is very original." She leaned back a bit, drawing her knees up and wrapping her arms about them. "Kikuei. What do you think of that name?"

The spirit flipped through the air again in cheerful assent, its colors glowing at their very brightest. All that she could do now was smile her relief.

Journal,

I did not quite tell the spirit that I was thinking of calling him Kikuei, but even so, he seemed to like the name a great deal.

So far, it seems as though every boundary I have tested has not succeeded in making the spirit dislike me. I think that being able to say that speaks wonders for our relationship, but I might be looking at the entire situation through rose-colored sunglasses.

He still shows no fear of the relic. Perhaps I will awaken to find him finally residing in it one day, or perhaps I am only being too optimistic again.

Until later,
Euph

Journal,

I was recently escorted from the tree by Ullue, as were the rest of the caretakers. Our journals had been brought down already, and everyone was reassured that their spirits will be alright.

I know that this is true, but I feel like a panicked mother who just lost track of her only child. Thousands of questions have been flooding my mind.

What if he needs me? What if he gets lonely? Repeated images of the day when he seemed so depressed refuse to stop flashing through my mind. Okay, so I am a nervous wreck right now. I just need to have some faith. All will be fine, I am sure of it.

I just hope that my spirit will be alright. I hope that he knows that I do not intend to leave him forever. I wish to be back as soon as possible. I tried to communicate this to him the best that I could last night, but the mist was thickening at such a pace that I did not have much time to talk or explain.

Just when I thought that I was really getting somewhere with my spirit, another test of just how much he trusts me is revealed. I cannot seem to shake this sad worry, but I know that all will turn out for the best. I know it.

Until later,
Euph

With a sad sigh, she snapped shut the journal, placing the pen on top of it and setting it upon the ground. She could not stop thinking about her spirit. What was to become of it?

She wished that she did not feel so dreadfully pessimistic, but she had grown to love her little friend. She had even become convinced that it cared about her in return. Was all of that effort in vain? Would whatever was becoming of the spirit amid the great mist in the tree chase it away forever?

She still thought upon that day when her spirit had shown noticeable signs of depression. She also remembered how the spirit bore no ill feelings towards her, even in its mood. If the depression was not a thing of her doing, what was it? Had the spirit been remembering things of its past life, or was its sadness simply a trait it had once possessed?

There were so many questions, none of which could be answered. Picking up her journal and pen once more, she opened to a fresh sheet and began to sadly doodle away, the beginning shadows of a sketch of a familiar spirit soon embracing the length of the page.

Journal,

I have not strayed very far from the tree ever since I played audience to a startling but absolutely wonderful vision. Unless I am very much mistaken, my spirit is now awaiting my return in the relic! I now feel more eager than ever to get back to him and hopefully work more on the sound trust we were beginning to build.

Tiagra made this adorable plush toy of my spirit. I cannot wait until I am able to return to the shelf and present it to my little friend.

I am feeling more excited with each day that passes, but I still harbor a bit of anxiety. I look forward to the time when I will be able to see my spirit again and go back to a state of normalcy.

Until later,
Euph

Journal,

I have just received word that the mist surrounding the tree will apparently be lifting very soon! I honestly could not feel more excited and upbeat; I only hope that my spirit will be alright.

I am assuming that when the mist has disappeared, we will all be able to return to our shelves. This is my ultimate hope, for I truly cannot wait to see my friend again and continue to work upon our growing trust.

Until next time,
Euph

She had always seemed to have a habit of dozing off at the most inopportune times. Indeed, when she woke up, she received quite the shock.

The enormous tree of Kyendi, while always a beautiful sight, was truly indescribable now. It was absolutely glowing with life. The mist had vanished, leaving behind the breathtaking spectacle of the massive tree. Glittering lights seemed to dance to and fro about the thick, lush foliage. It was truly a vision of glory.

Finally overcoming her momentary awe, she thought of one thing and one thing alone. It took her only moments to dart and sprint up the winding stairs, dashing to the right where they forked off, past the two platforms and up to the shelf. She could clearly see the relic now, and within it, there was a soft, steady pulsation of colorful light. She hesitated while trying to catch her breath, pausing just before stepping upon the shelf, not wanting to frighten the spirit with a loud entrance. Instead, she approached the relic softly and slowly, peering inside when she could to steal a peek at her friend.

It was huddled in a corner of the relic, apparently rather bored and not just a little depressed. However, upon spotting signs of movement, it seemed to look up, and upon spotting and recognizing its companion, immediately bobbed forward and gave as much of an enthusiastic flip as it could in its small quarters, its colors growing more and more vivid in its rising happiness.

Its joy was infectious, and a wide grin had found its way onto her face, as well. "I'm happy to see you, too, friend. You have no idea how much I missed you; I'm really sorry that I had to go away at all."

The spirit, having now forgotten its sadness and loneliness, waved a flickering tendril a bit, as if to shrug off the incident with a, "Nah, it's alright."

Things were finally back to normal, or as normal as they had ever been.

Journal,

I showed my friend the drawings I had done of him, as well as the lovely gift from Tiagra. All of the surprises were extremely well-received, which marked a nice change from what had seemed to be frustration with his small surroundings.

Though he seems happier and more trusting now than ever, he also seems so tired, and as I mentioned before, he gets agitated with his cramped quarters. I suppose that whatever magic is taking place within the relic is rather draining. I only hope that it isn’t painful or anything of the sort, though he shows no signs of discomfort other than wanting to move about more freely.

For his sake more than mine, I hope that this transformation will not be too taxing on him. In the meantime, all that I can do is keep him company and attempt to continue to make him happy.

Until next time,
Euph

Journal,

I have some good news! It seems that the name I had hopefully selected earlier has been approved by my friend. It certainly is nice to have something to call him, as opposed to referring to him constantly as a spirit or friend. He is much more than that.

I was lucky that he was alright with the name Kikuei. I had hoped he would be. As I mentioned before, it is a very original name.

I hope to go shopping soon for more items. After all, I imagine that Kikuei will be completing his transformation sometime in the near future, and I want to have the shelf completely spiffed up before that occurs. I truly cannot wait for the day when he will be able to leave his relic. I cannot help but feel sorry for him, as I know firsthand just how easily he can get bored.

More later,
Euph

Journal,

I am so relieved that Kikuei finally seems to be getting some rest. He certainly looked as though he needed it. What exactly goes on in that relic? Whatever it is, it obviously is quite tiring.

Meanwhile, the very faint, soft rays of light from the relic are growing more and more common, as well as much stronger. Is the magic entering its final stages?

I can only hope.

Until the next time,
Euph
