Lin could feel a tick coming on as she did her best not to glare at Kaito. She didn't feel like telling him that in truth she hadn't figured it out she had to be told.

"Obviously not," Lin muttered, "How many people in this family knows about this?"

Did she really, really want to know?

"In the family?" Kaito repeated.

"Uhh ..." Ura mused.

Shiro cleared his throat. "Anyone who has seen the two of you together since ... well, for us since we went on that trip, though for those in Arda, I'm sure it's been quite a bit longer."

He couldn't lie. But at least he had a bit of tact.

So in a way, everyone except those who were still in Gaia knew. There was something somewhat mortifying about that. Lin sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose to try and shave off an impending headache.

"So as far as immediate family is concerned you three, Storm, Starr, mother and father," Lin murmured.

"Mummi... Daddi," Miyuki was happily babbling to her doll.

Kaito counted on his fingers and grinned sheepishly at Lin. "Umm ... yes?"

"Come on, Lin," Shiro spoke up again, "there are worse things. I mean ... so what if everyone knows? It's not like they're making things difficult for you, are they? With the exception of Kaito, I mean." He glared at his twin, who simply grinned back.

"Because I didn't," Lin replied a bit frustrated with it all, "I thought for a while he was in love with Haldia and she was the one to tell me. Earendil didn't manage to say anything until the night before I left."

And even more frustrating was that Lin didn't know her own feelings. Yes, it was lonely without Earendil, but this is what happened when you spent over six years with the same person. She liked being around him and, even she would admit she had been flustered when he told her he loved her. For Lin though it was hard to tell where her own feelings started and the rest was just feelings caused by realizing she could be loved in a world so very different from her own.

"Well," Shiro murmured, not entirely sure what to say, "I guess ... well ... elves, for all the strength of their love, are no different from the people in our world. It's not an easy thing to say, Lin, even in the best of circumstances."

"Why would you think he was in love with Haldia?" Kaito asked, puzzled. "I mean ... sure they're friends, but he doesn't treat her any differently than he would treat anyone else!"

Lin blushed at that, because it had been highly embarrassing, "I knew he was in love with someone but I didn't know who... and I didn't think it was me."

How could she after all? She would never fault Earendil for only looking for love with another elf that was the norm of the society and she knew this.

"That was it?" Ura blurted out, honestly surprised by her confession. "Just because you thought it was someone other than you?"

Shiro glared at Ura. "While I do tend to agree with you, Ura, that was not a polite way to say it."

"He's right though," Kaito added, eying Lin. "I mean ... there has to have been some other reason why you thought it was her and not you."

Lin gave the men a look, honestly was she just cynical about her life or where they dense at exactly how much the odds were against her?

"I'm an angel, and while as a Gaian that should not matter all three of you should know what sort of implications this holds, or for that matter how unlikely something like this would normally happen."

Goddesses, don't remind her, Ruel was going to have the closest thing to a heartattack.

All three nekos stared right back at Lin, silent, as if waiting for her to add something else.

Finally, Ura asked, "And?"

"Obviously Earendil doesn't care," Kaito spoke up, "why should that worry you?"

"It's not a worry."

Sure she was somewhat worry about Ruel's reaction but let's face it, Ruel had a pretty long stick up is rear at times, so it wasn't going to be anything new.

"It's the reason why I didn't think it was me," Lin grounded out, "Okay, so call me a cynic, but can you blame me for not setting my expectations high?"

Why was it so hard to understand? Lin wasn't stupid (dense but not stupid) as to fall in love with another person who couldn't possibly love her back. That was just asking to be hurt.

"Ah," Shiro nodded. "That I can understand. But if I may be so bold ..."

He leaned forward intently. "Does that mean that you did not develop any feelings? Or does it simply mean that you quashed them, and never realized they were there because you didn't want them to be?"

He shrugged and raised his hands. "Don't answer me if you don't want to. Just think about it for yourself."

Lin blinked, that's what it really came down to wasn't it?

"I don't know," she admitted.

It was just really confusing for her, which was probably why she was so frustrated and hadn't been quite happy that Ura had taught Miyuki 'ada'.

"It feels strange."

Shiro chuckled softly. "Well, like I said, I don't need an answer. Just think about it on your own time. No one can help you find the answer, it's something you have to do on your own."

"Maybe she should just ask Miyuki," Kaito muttered under his breath, barely audibly.

If Lin had heard she would have probably been tempted to kick Kaito. Kaito was a good guy, but he had less tact than her father sometimes and that was quite saying something.

Miyuki though, with her hearing, did hear but didn't quite get it, "Eh?"

She looked up at Kaito.
