Mau faltered slightly at that. "None? That's one of the fundamentals of being a trainer. Catching a pokemon and growing together with it is part of the journey." As if to illustrate his point, Mau reached into one of his pockets, and pulled out a pokeball. "It's entertaining to get to know pokemon too." He released the pokemon in the ball. The pidgeotto stretched her wings and looked around.

"Pidgoo?" She looked at Mau curiously, then glanced at Rosie.

"This is Ran." The bird bobbed her head then flapped her wings, taking flight up into the trees and perching above them. "I met her not that long ago. Aki has been helping me train her to hunt berries. She scouts for berry trees." Mau suddenly looked up as Ran let out a warning cry.

"GOO PIDGOO!" She flapped madly, staring into the undergrowth of the forest.

The jolteon that had been wandering the forest froze as soon as she heard the pokemon's cry. She crouched down, staring through the leaves. The human was saying something to the noisy bird, then it took off. Frightened, the jolteon let out a thundershock, hoping to scare off all of them.

"Either a pidgeotto learned an electric attack, or there's a jolteon in the area." He smiled. Ran was circling overhead, shouting, when she dodged another thundershock. "Be careful Ran!"

As if she needed to be told that. Electricity hurt! She vaguely heard Mau yell for an attack. Quick attack? Might as well! She folded her wings to pick up speed, diving at the jolteon.

"It's unusual for a jolteon to be out here alone..."

"She has to be fine. After all, water is also weak to electric. But Ran is more agile then Aki." Mau said, not looking at the young girl.

The Jolteon panicked. Things weren't supposed to attack! They were supposed to be scared off from the attack! "JOOO!" The jolteon cried out when the bird's attack connected with her side. She stumbled to the side and looked at the bird. Ok, lightning just made it attack... what about...? Jolteon launched itself into a tackle attack, but Ran had flown up, avoiding it, then diving back and striking the jolteon again. "EON!" She cried, releasing a thundershock on impact.

"PIDGOTTO!" Ran shook her feathers.

"Ran!" Mau was about to tell Rosie she should throw a ball at the jolteon, to catch it, but it was standing, and gearing up to attack again. Mau reacted on a long dormant reflex, throwing a pokeball at the Jolteon to catch it.

The lavender-eyed pokemon vanished into the red light, and the ball fell to the grass. One shake. Mau reached for Ran's ball. A second shake. Mau called Ran back, cooing softly she had done well.

Aki ran at the ball and pounced on it as it started shaking a third time, and the red light became white. The Jolteon was his, and now Aki was trotting around with the ball in his mouth like it was a play thing.

Mau blinked a few times. "Ah, they are aren't they." Mau held his arm up, and Ran settled on the offered perch. "You did good." He said, offering a berry to the Pidgeotto. She gave a happy squawk and danced on Mau's arm before taking the berry. "That should also serve as a reminder that it's important to have different kinds of pokemon... cover your weaknesses.

Aki looked up as Ran got a treat. "POR!" He demanded. It wasn't fair if Ran got a goodie and he didn't. "Por por EON!" He dropped the pokeball at Mau's feet and stared up at the humans. Mau laughed and knelt, the movement making Ran hop off and fluff her feathers at Aki. The two began to chatter, that seemed like they may have been arguing.

"One problem with having multiple pokemon is if they bicker." Mau laughed, picking up the pokeball. "Ire..." He decided that was a decent name for what he just caught. He would heal her and test out her abilities later. "Of course if they had the same personalities, pokemon would be about as much fun as a machine."

"Really? Well..." Mau stopped, blinking then burst into laughter. "I have a friend with a magnemite. ... It pretends to know attract, but it does it wrong, and will try to magnetize itself to your flesh. It's as though the... almost machine loves you back." He had to wonder how his comrades were doing... and how many computers got fried because of the magnemite.

He shook his head and tucked Ire's pokeball away safely. "Have you thought about what other pokemon you might like to pair up with?"

Why did that name sound familiar? Faleen... That was going to bother him. "A sister?" He couldn't help but question. "I haven't seen too many steel pokemon around here. But then I've only been visiting here for just a few weeks."

When she mentioned jiglypuff, He couldn't help the smile. Oh what he wouldn't give for Nia's pink jigglypuff cookies with the green gummy eyes. "Jigglypuff are decent pokemon. If you find one, I hope you catch it."

"Well, it sounds like you and your sister get along very well." He couldn't help himself now as he plopped his hand on Rosie's head and ruffled her hair slightly. You'll meet up with her somewhere. Kodo isn't that big." He gave her a soft smile.

When she mentioned him catching the Jolteon, he shook his head a little. "It's strange, some habits die hard. I don't normally catch pokemon anymore." He straightened up. "Well, you'll find a jigglypuff somewhere, I know you will. And you'll be an excellent trainer."
