His head whipped around to look at her, and he paced over to her until he was literally in her face. He stared at her for a second and whispered in a huff, "You don't think I care? Why the hell would I have carried you back here, traveled about to bring you food, cooked for you, and made sure you were safe and know the dangers of this area?" He sounded so angry at her remark, though he was more upset than mad at her. He stared at her again and smacked the sticks she had out of her grasp. He got just about as close as he could to her and whispered in her ear. "I'm helping you because I want to, alright? Because- because I care..." He stood there for a second, and then backed away just enough to stare her in the face. "Go ahead, tell me I don't care when I've done so much for you." His eyes narrowed at her, waiting to see what her remark would be.

Layla was totally taken aback by his reaction, she backed up a little he seemd so angry at her, but then her silly proud head made her stop and stand up tall in the face of his verbal assault, even in hushed tones it was intense. When he smashed the sticks out of her paw she looked at him, hurt in her eyes, thought she tried not to show it, ears back as he leaned in, afraid he was going to hit her she closed her eyes, which flew open at his whispered comment, *he..he...cares? but we only just met* she thought, dropping her eyes from his in shame, she scooted round him and headed towards the entrance forgetting about whatever it was that was out there, gritting her teeth against an apology.

"It's in my nature to care," he said softly, "though I've grown bitter. I've not had anyone to care for in quite some time."
His pride and guard were let down, and he suddenly realized this.
"Don't think you're special or anything, I probably would have cared for anyone. Besides, you'll leave after this is all over and we'll probably never see each other again." He stuck his nose in the air.
"What, you're not going to keep grooming yourself? I thought it was like a nervous tick or something." He grinned at her, nose still in the air and feeling proud of himself.

Layla turned towards him, "i might as well just leave now then, you've wrapped me up, i've eaten the herbs you told me to eat, i'l be fine now" she snapped, racing towards the entrance, forgetting the vines, she preactically bounced off them, landing in the dirt with a thud, crying out because she had landed on her injured side, tears in her eyes she lay there. feeling angry, upset and hurt all at the same time, *and all because of HIM* she thought bitterly

"Did you not SEE me put those up? If you're in such a hurry, here."
He untied the vines and opened the entrance.
"GO." He snapped. "I dare you."
They both heard howls from the distance, and a chilly air blew in and made the fire flicker.
An owl hooted nearby, and the snapping of twigs could be heard.
"Well?", he snorted. "Go ahead."

Layla got to her feet and stepped back slightly as he took down the vines, "thank you" she said tartly, hesitating a little at the howls that could be heard. She took a deep breath and walked out and away, once he was out of sight she ran for the ruins she'd been heading to before, a few tears making her face cold, head down she ran, not daring to look round too much.

He stopped, eyes wide at the fact that she darted out into the darkness. The noises in the night seemed to grow louder as the wind made the trees rustle. Pyros stood there for awhile, contemplating whether or not to go after her, even sitting down for awhile. He'd hoped she would come back...but she didn't.
Pyros quickly put out the fire and covered the hut's doorway. He took off into the night, flying over the trees. The wind was blisteringly cold against his face. He scoured the ground for a while but there was no sign of Layla.

Layla shivered, she'd gotten a bit lost at first, but eventually came across a glimmer of his scent mingled with hers, she'd sighed, wishing she had stayed, following her nose, with difficulty against the wind, she finally spied the ruins ahead.
Something snapped a twig behind her, not too far away either, she didnt look back, just ran for the crumbled stone, hoping that there was somewhere to hide. She heard chasing behind her as she ran, not knowing who or what it was she sped up, not daring to glance behind, in the gloomy night she spotted a darker gloom, and she shot into it, swiftly coming to a halt as she crashed into the back wall of whatever it was she'd run down into, turning around she saw that the entrance was pretty shallow.

Pyros caught an inkling of her scent in the wind, and followed the direction it was coming from. It became stronger and stronger, yet he could not see her. He followed it until he could see the ruins in the distance, wondering where she was. He narrowed his eyes and squinted, it was so dark that he could only rely on his nose and keen sense of smell.

Layla shook, she was freezing cold and scared, she could see a shadow passing in front of the hole several times, and sniffing sounds, but there was no noises coming from..whatever it was, she squeezed herself as small and tight as she could, keeping warm as well as staying as far away from the mouth of the small.... well.. burrow is all she could think of to call it, her side hurt and her breath came in ragged gasps, tears running down her face as she tried to think straight, *why do i have to be so pig headed* she thought.

He dove in closer to the ruins, he was sure she was around somewhere. He was so angry at himself for waiting too long to go after her. Pyros hovered over the ruins, and he could smell her scent so strongly. With a loud yelp he shouted "LAYLA?" as loud as his lungs would allow. He stopped on a large stone and froze, waiting for any sign of her.

Layla froze, she'd heard Pyros call her, now she was worried whatever it was that was sniffing out there would get Pyros "PYROS!" she screamed "GET AWAY" .. hoping that the thing that now seemed to be sitting at the entrance would go away, she thought it was sitting there anyway, since the gloom had gotten deeper when she looked towards the entrance.

Ignoring her warnings, he swooped down to search for wherever her voice was coming from. His eyes were wide with worry as he followed his ears and nose He heard something moving, could it be her? he thought. It has to be. He made a beeline in the direction of the noise, and stopped dead in his tracks. What he saw before his eyes frightened him THAT much...

Layla had decided enough was enough, yelling she charged out at the thing in the entrance, biting at it, hoping to surprise it enough to either get away, or fight. "PYROS GET OUT OF HERE" she shouted, before stumbling, rolling head over tail and landing face first in the dirt. Dazed she got up slowly, shaking her head to clear it.

Pyros saw her flail out and fall into the dirt...it was dark but he knew for sure there was something large in front of her. The huge black silhouette moves ever closer to her, and with one fell swoop he darted in between Layla and the "thing." He flapped his wings and growled loudly, in hopes of scaring away whatever it was. It seemed to be working as he bared his horns toward it, and it retreated back into the forest. When he was 100% sure it was gone, he turned to Layla to see if she was alright.
