Dragon_Fire1995 I love Lirael . The other two are alright, but not as good in my opinion. Mmm...maybe it was just because there was a long gap between when I read Sabriel, and then the two sequels, but I liked Sabriel the best, and I'm inclined to think I always will... What did you like about Lirael?

I think I'll have to read the books over again because I remember that I felt frustration at some points in Lirael and possibly Abhorsen. Plus it's a series that I could read multiple times. 4laugh However, I distinctly remember enjoying the series overall and being a bit wistful and nostalgic when I finished it. I have two copies of the trilogy, which might not be a trilogy anymore because of the fourth book... In any case, I have the novels in individual paperbacks with the original artwork on them (I had to resist the urge to buy the ones with the symbols on them because I knew I would miss the art more than I would the symbols) and a second copy of all three together in a hardback with the Sabriel cover art. I really enjoyed the series that much despite any minor frustrations I experienced. Garth Nix was probably the most influential author in my childhood aside from any 'big names' because I felt like his writing took me to a completely different world riddled with new laws of [mostly plausable] physics and reality. I will always apprieciate his ability to take me to the world of the Abhorsen through clever phrases and beautiful descriptions. heart Someone mentioned earlier that they read Ragwitch and didn't like it at all. I've heard the same sentiment from others who have read it. It's made me hesitant to read it...but I think I should give it a try and hope to find it in one of my local libraries.

I like Sabriel best. Abhorsen was pretty good too but Lireal just seemed to take a while to get anywhere for me the frist time. sad The second time I didn't mind it though.

Yeah; Lirael was a little slow, and Abhorsen a bit too fast, but when you consider the events which were happening and that had to happen for you to understand/enjoy the books, I think it needed to be that way, however much I had a problem getting used to it.
One of the things I liked about the Sabriel series was how he allowed both magic and technology exisit side by side without cluttering each other. Kept the spirit of disbelievers alive, and..just...it works.

Yeah. It does. Which is why I'm sad that the new book "Across the Wall" only has a little to do with the Abhorsen Trilogy. That short story wasn't nearly enough in my opinion. cry

Although most people say they don't like the ending of Abhorsen, I liked it. It was a bit short, but it made me think. Made me say: "It's done?", and then think about it a whole bunch more. I loved the line to the effect of:
(Possible spoiler)
"As did I then, so do I now, I am Kibeth, and I stand against you."

Yeah. Maybe it was just me though, but it was really easy to guess what would happen and who was whom (or would be whom) at the end...

I loved Abhorsen and Lirael. Sabriel was good, but I bought it long before I read the other too, and read it way too many times! I'm quite sick of it by now. I hadn't heard of the fourth book.

I liked Lirael and Abhorsen better than Sabriel too..I guess the first was just a little slow. I nearly bought the last one, but stopped when a read the synopsis...Guess I'm just going to be content with three out of four

I've read the first two of the series, but I've been unable to find the third book. I may have to order it. The series is really good as far as I've read though.

Hi
yeah these were great books, i love Garth Nix, you might enjoy his Keys ot the Kingdom series as well but there 5 out of 7 at the moment number 6 is out soon yay!!
Sabriel i found a bit slow to get into at first but it may have just been me having an off day but once you get into it i couldn't personally stop
I didn't like the 4th one though his 'extra' book i found it a bit blah worth reading if you've read his others but not as good i didnt think.

What did you like about Lirael? The main character, mostly, once she got over her depression. I also liked the pacing. Not to mention I love how she works in the great library, and the Disreputable dog is great. =D "Or Disreputable b***h, if you want to get technical." XDDD
Not to mention I could relate to Lirael more then I could Saberiel. I always like a main character I can relate to.
