The woman had a sense of danger about her, so he didn't really doubt that there was more to her underneath that cloak. But still! A whip is a wonderful friend!

Though. No sooner did Nick tell Talon that it was safe to to through the passage way, Talon started laughing. "Yeah right. 'Safe'. Watch. There're going to be darts flying out of the walls or spears dropping from the ceiling. " Yeaaah. Let the woman go first who seemed to know where they were going.

Moe chattered in Talon's ear trying to say something about Nick. Talon only heard this as noise as he was kinda distracted with the thought of dying young-ish. Holding the torch thing somewhat dispassionate , he stepped through the door following Nick down the passage way. He noticed the sharp corner and wasn't too fond of it, actually.

In fact he was kinda sure that something like that was rather important... like impending doom important. .

The man's optimism was encouraging. Though it was better to be aware than oblivious. Still, he had a point. The theme of this temple was 'seekers' so no doubt the maze and puzzle had everything to do with that, 'seeking'. Clues and traps alike.

Nick only glanced back at him as he spoke. She had no comment for him. It was true, but for the most part, this section of the hall was safe.

Right before she moved to the sharp turn in the hall she paused and took a quick peek around the corner.

*Click*

The sound was most unsettling, even more so that there was no follow up action to the sound. Perhaps Nick couldn't set off this trap either.

"You might be right about the darts..." Nick spoke flatly as she turned to look at Talon. "Or worse. Perhaps acid shots... or a combination." The last part an obvious pick at his 'paranoia' over the dangers in this temple.

*click**click**click*

More noises without actions. The sound pattern of the water changed a little, as if the water was now hitting something before landing in a pool.

Talon followed after, though stopping when he was given a quick glance. Safe or not, there was still a matter of the stalactites over head. Then there was that click.

His eye gazed around. Darts would have happened by now, or so he thought. He rolled his eyes at her comments. "Flames would be better. Throw us off with the water then throw fire at us. Makes sense to me. Acid would be too kind. " It seemed like he wasn't too paranoid actually, just being perceptive. If he wanted to be paranoid, he'd be paranoid over the fact that the Tyrant was still sitting outside like a giant green target on the chalky ground around it.

More clicks and Talon frowned deeper, looking around trying to pinpoint the source of the sound. It wasn't proving helpful. He was guessing that the diverted water was hitting something. Probably a wheel that turned something that was going to cause hell. ...Wait. "Would you put it past the ancients to build a maze with changing corridors powered by water and gears? "
PostPosted: Sun Apr 18, 2010 12:56 pm

"Not at all..." Nick sighed as she thought of the possibility of changing corridors. In fact the thought was highly possible being this a test of observation. There would be clues, but they would be very subtle. Unlike the first room of course... That was supposed to be easy.

Nick looked around the corner again at the hallway.

The hallway was long, very long with several rooms or more halls connecting. Either way there were many 'doors' along this dark and long passage. Perhaps there were nest rooms like in the first temple, and whatever was in this temple would emerge there? Unlikely. Nick felt as if it were too soon for their appearance. But one could never be too sure.

"Common.."

Slowly and carefully Nick slipped around the corner into the long hallway. She kepy her focus forward, but listened for Talon behind her. If there was going to be a trap he might set it off, and it was best to be prepared...

Moe chirped and seemed to forget that there was this heavy blanket of ' impending doom' over the exploration team. He was seemingly facinated with that makeshift torch and wanted to hold it. It resulted in the little MRZ tumbling forward only to get caught by the quick reflexes of Talon. It squirmed some but decided that this wasn't a bad spot so chilled there for now.

And Talon was without the use of his hands... fantastic. His eyes darted over and over the stone hallways, searching the shadows that were just out of sight for anything that could possibly be a trap. Holes in the walls, some sort of motion sensor, anything at all. Hell! Even the simple pressure plate would have been nice. This no trap thing was starting to get on his nerves...

More clicks. More annoying, distant clicks. He frowned and followed Nick, careful of where he placed his footing as well as where he was in the hallway. That didn't really slow him down at all, but it was exhausting work keeping track of so many different things.

Then he thought of something worse. "Well, that doesn't look ominous at all. " he muttered as he looked upon all those doors. Probably doors that held back gallons of water and would no doubt sweep them down stream. Talon shouldered Moe and followed...

No doubt he was going to go insane with every click someone made for at least a couple months after this.

As the group approached the first door Nick slowed down again to take a look inside. A single pillar with a winding stair case along the wall going deep into the earth. There was a good foot between the pillar and the edge of the two foot wide stairs, enough to see the distance between top and bottom.

There was also water at the bottom, but not touching the pathway into the other room. Little did they know, all rooms were like this.

*click-THUNK!*

Finally the clicking gave meaning. Not a changeable hallway, not a ton of darts, no flame thrower, but rods shot out from the hallway to the right of each door (six feet from the floor) after the one they were near and connected to the wall adjacent to its starting point. With each rod, a buzzing nose... the familiar buzzing noise of electricity. And each one glowed a yellowish color.

*CRASH!*

The loud crash came from the end of the hall. Soon following the noise water begun to fill the hallway slowly. The group would notice the toes of their boots starting to get wet.

Nick froze in her examination of the room when the rods emerged from the wall than looked down the hall when the loud crash came. As she looked she noticed another stone door trap in the room she just examined. That sinking feeling that -all- the doors would be rigged with this same trap crossed her mind.

"Great..." Nick mumbled to herself. Somewhere, there was power flowing through this temple still. Ancients and their obviously violent past, what will they think of next?

The sudden louder and angrier crashes made Talon frown. In fact, he peered over Nick into the room she was examining to get a better look. He frowned when the electrical rods shot out of the walls.

Actually, it wasn't really a frown. More like a grunt of resignation to being electrocuted to death. No. Electrocuted, then he would be drowned. Ah, irony. Drowned in a desert. He chuckled to himself at that, totally forgetting something important.

Which had to be to write down the list of traps he discovered so far in his leather bound pocket sized journal! He somehow managed to pull it out and prop it open in the hand that was holding the torch...then he had to find a pen. Moe chirped, flailing at the silliness of this, but Talon bopped him on the nose to shush the silly shoulder boulder. Which was when he spotted his pen and started jotting down the traps in order.

It was when he was about to start on the current one that he noticed something and looked down. There was a pause as he computed the water slowly rising. ". . .And rising water... " he said then wrote it down, and proceded to pocket it.

He'd probably get a strange look for that from Leyenda, but he didn't have much time. Nor did he feel like explaining. "Pick a room and lets get going before the water rises any further. If this entire place is a joke, then I am going to fund a time machine so I can slaughter the creators--if I get out alive that is. "

Moe barked in agreement and climbed to sit on Talon's head this time, having decided to take up navigator of its squishy human, and tugged on two tufts of hair in a ' Giddy-up' fashion. ... Moe forgot the danger apparently.

Nick's brow quirked when Talon managed to get his notebook out and jot down something. She didn't wonder what he was writing so much as why. Perhaps later she would inquire, now they had an issue to deal with. What door?

The room was not going to flood completely until the doors cam crashing down, which lead Nick to believe that they would at any moment. The trap had to be timed from when the electrical poles punctuated the other side of the wall and the water was released.

His next comment she found amusing. So amusing it caused a small grin to form on her face. It was no joke, but she would also love to strangle the one responsible for these temples. If only he knew they, the ones responsible, were still messing with peoples lives...

Nick looked over all the doors again to see any sign of the favored bird symbol. None, all were as plain as the walls. She looked back at the one closest to them and the only door without a rod by its side. Never the first...

*Click,click,click,click,tink,click,click*

"This way." Nick moved forward quickly. She had to crouch down so that the electrical rods didn't rub against her head. They were about as far from the ground as she was when standing up right.

Nick counted the doors as she went by. Two on the left, two on the right, the four hands. Three for the stages, Seventh door! One had to represent the the seeker stage.

There was little warning as she practically lept into the seventh door onto the thin spiraling steps. She moved forward down the steps and turned to make sure Talon had made it as well.

He caught that smile of hers and quirked an eyebrow at her sudden amusement. Well, at least she had some sense of humor and it wasn't a lost cause. But this wasn't the time or place to start cracking jokes. And Moe was tugging a bit too much for comfort.

Talon ducked a little lower than necessary, giving Moe a good foot of space between the MRZ and the poles of electrical peril, and followed the woman closely, keeping an eye on the doors and what not. At least she was sure of where she was going. That was a plus. Or, he hoped she was right.

The clicking was getting annoying and rather too ominus. He balked at her quick leap, chancing a glance back at the hallway. Mostly it was to gather his nerves together for whatever lay beyond that spiral staircase. He didn't linger too long, as he knew that that would get him squished, electrocuted or drowned. So he leaped over to the staircase with a grunt as he practically slammed himself into the pillar for good measure.

Even with the torchlight, he had issues judging distance. Shadows were very hard to read you know. Moe giggled with delight and gave Talon a pat on the head. "Thank you.." Talon mumbled at the pat, as he glanced around the room they were now in.

Ugh, the thoughts of giant sea monsters came to mind. The ones with the giant tentacles that he'd only read about. What were they called? Squid? Yeah. Giant Squid. Ugh, fish were disgusting.

Once Talon was safely attached to the pillar as expected, the stone door came down with a loud crash. More rumbles could be heard as the other doors fell as well and the water begun to fill the previous room at an alarming rate.

The only relief to this was that infernal clicking had stopped. It must have been some mechanism to time the doors...

Nick let out a long drawn out breath. She looked at Talon and Moe. They both seemed alright, but before she could ask a strange sound come from the room far below them. Squeaks, splashing water, gurgle noises... They were about to encounter something. Perhaps the Seekers?

Nick's right hand flexed. She'd be ready for a fight with whatever was in that room. But first, ascend the stairs before anything else had a chance to fall on them.

"Are you alright?" She looked at the two again as she asked.

Talon heard the noises as well and peered into the darkness that seemed to mock his makeshift torch. The glare he gave those shadows showed his current mood: unamused and probably ready to take on an angry bear and win against the angry bear. Moe, on the other claw was giggling and bouncing up and down on Talon's head wanting more adventure.

That little bundle of fun bolts reminded him to relax and remember that he'd be laughing at this one day. Probably after he came out of his hole. Yep. That'd be a week or so later.

"Are you alright?"

He heard those words and stared blankly at the woman. Was she seriously asking that? His brow ridge rose as he frowned in concern not for himself--he stopped worrying about himself after that near miss with the spike-- but for Leyenda's sanity. Moe waved happily at the woman nodding over and over and over, chittering in happiness and wanting more excitement.

"For now? Yes. Later, I have no guarantee of my well being. " He grinned and motioned with his free hand that they should probably keep moving. Who knows what that new noise is or could be. "I suggest first finding solid ground either up or down. Not to rush you or anything like that. " And talon kept smiling. Secretly, he was enjoying this. That'd be about one-eighth of his nature. The rest were either passed out from the trauma, venting their frustration on others, or denying everything.
And yet, he was utterly curious with this entire structure.

At least that was something his entire person could agree upon.

Up wasn't going to be much of an option unless the Judge had installed a full on CPB in her arm, or Talon somehow had been hiding explosives. Both, very unlikely. Downward it was and hopefully the sounds were nothing to be worried about.

Once Nick got the confirmation he was alright she focused back on the stairs and begun to carefully descend. She had not seen any traps other than the door, but than again, she didn't see any warning to the rods coming out of the wall either.

The further down they got the wetter the stone became. Small holes in the wall let water trickle down onto the stairs and into the pool of water on either side of the pathway leading into the next room. The pool seemed very deep... All the water under a desert. The thought was amusing. No one but the ancients, Talon, and Nick would know it was even down here.

The archway into this room was decorated with smooth carved rock in the shape of feathers. Centered above the door was an eroded head of what looked to be a bird... probably the same sharp nasty looking statues they saw at the beginning of the temple.

Inside, was a relief to all the doom they had seen so far in the temple. Filled with fountains and running water. Some pools deep, others very shallow, and a dry (ish) pathway leading through the room. The room had a blue glow to it as several blue orbs gave off a soothing light. One of the better Ancient inventions...

Blue light came from jewels on strange mechanical creatures inhabiting the room as well. They crawled about the walls, swam in the many pools in the room, covered the only dry pathway to the other room. What were they? Possibly the ancient's version of an MRZ. Not quite like the strikers or Organoids. They squeaked and gurgled and made all kinds of odd noises as the wondered about the room.

One of them had wondered out into the stairs, this one different from the others, not just because it was silver where the others were copper and gold. It was dysfunctional, only capable of two things... It was not capable of linking to ZOIDS like the others were. Of course, this was un-noticeable by looks.
It looked fine other than the fact it was staring past Nick at the other two temple goers... It was FASCINATED by Moe and Talon.

A few of the others were more interested in Nick, and her right arm, but they did not leave the room like the silver one did. Only looked from a distance and waited for them to come down the stairs.

As he followed, the solider noted that the stone was getting damper and potentially dangerously slippery. He also noted that they were heading towards the sound that could mean doom. He would have balanced himself by running his hand against the central column, but that probably wasn't safe as it may trigger something deadly. Gah... Why couldn't he feel safe here?

Moe, sensing the unease of his pilot tugged on tufts of his hair and peered over, pointing and chattering something about keeping up with the nice lady. There was no arguing from Talon. Though the small holes in the walls that let in water got him curious as to the purpose.

Drainage?

... Or a breeding ground for dangerous water Zoids!

Talon frowned softly when Nick stopped, holding up the torch to get a better look at the intricate carved doorway. It was beautiful and didn't give off any doom. Then again, that bird head thing didn't look exactly like the other bird heads. The soft blue lights and the babbling of fountains spewing water could mean anything.

A prickle on the back of his neck told Talon that someone or something was watching him. His first instict was the look at Nick. Well, she looked to be more interested in the rest of the room. Then his eyes fell upon the strange creatures.

A curious reaction took place. Talon tilted his head and stared back at the thing that was staring at him. "What the... ? " It didn't look like it was harmful. Then again it looked like some sort of sea creature so there was bound to be a trick. Moe Tilted its head to the side and hopped down with a slick thud and slid over to this sliver thing in curiosity, one paw up in a peace greeting. Talon just stood there, not sure exactly what to do.

One wrong move and the natives would be restless and could potentially swarm them to tentacle death.

"Umm... What exactly were you looking for down here, Leyenda? "
PostPosted: Mon Apr 26, 2010 7:55 pm

Nick had to step around the silver cuttlefish, it was too occupied with gawking at Talon and Moe to move out of the way.

"I'm looking for the seekers..." Nick spoke flatly. No use in lying about that. He wouldn't know what they were in any case. Not yet any ways.

These were not them, they didn't feel as dark as the strikes than. If these were not the seekers tough, what were they? Not very aggressive...

"Gleep, goooth, burbles!" ( <-- Cuddlefish noise)

That thought only had a moment to linger before the first of many cuddlers lept onto Nick and begun to latch onto her arm tightly. She didn't make it far into the room before they begun to swarm her. At first she struggled to get them off, but as more and more begun to latch onto her right arm, shoulder, neck, and even face she fell to her knees and let them swarm. They were not doing it out of agression, in fact they were easing the pain the Judge had given during the arm upgrade...

They tore through the bandage strips and worked to remove the cloak so they could connect to the mechanical right half of Nicks body. Talon would now be able to see the array of weapons this woman was packing under the cloak. Mostly daggers, but there were two short swords at her side along with other sharp devices for throwing.

The gems on the cuddlers who were securely latched begun to flicker. They were communicating something very important about the death father and great mother. Something Nick understood clearly.

Talon just blinked, totally not sure what she was looking for, but assumed it had something to do with ancient temples. Awesome! Someone with a fake name looking for something that sounded epic. Seriously, someone was plotting this, there just had to be, thought Talon.

Talon waved a hand curiously at the cuttlefish thing. Well... it was cute. Kinda.. In that flailey leg sort of thing.

Of course he was suddenly distracted by the hoard of cuttlefish attacked the woman and disarmed her. He was surprised by attack, wait, no he wasn't. He figured they would attack sometime. But he didn't expect the amount of armory the woman had under her cloak.

Talon blinked, not quite sure how to react to the swarm. Instead he did the polite thing and not say anything.

Moe on the other hand ran over and sat there looking at the woman barking chirps of concern. The curious cuttlefish MRZ of silver was forgotten and left for Talon to deal with. The swarm was more interesting.
