I am busy learning tiger form and it rocks... though it is really tough on the body. I hate Gung Li Chen.... power sequence... probably because i am a girl and really battle to get the same power into the form as the boys...
Blahh....

Yeah but ladies tend to be more flexible (especially around the hips) and find it easier to make a kata/pattern/form look smoother. I have noticed with certain stances it looks different when a lady is doing it than when a man is doing it, quite often the ladies make it look better but that might just bias on my opinion... blaugh

Elbow techniques are powerful but take time to perfect. We teach empi waza to the white belts. Its usually the first kata to really give them trouble.

amazonbard Xx pengwyn xX Any one else here practice shotokan katas? Me I love shotokan!!! My favorite Kata is Kanku Dai ( I think it means 'Look to the sky - Big' I've seen Kanku Dai (I'm taking your spelling because I don't know how to spell it either.) done before. But I'm only a purple belt so I haven't learned it yet. I'm learning Empi right now.

I'm happy with taekwondo, we don't have kata's. True the form and movements are incredible to watch. But I prefer the finishing sound in taekwondo that u get when u use deadly power on each move and land it perfectly. Kwang gae, 1st dan pattern shows that perfectly. Knowing how to move slow, controlled and finisht eh movemnt hard, while still going fast half of th pattern still requires a finishing to the move to make it complete.

I like that pattern aswell, its certainly 'interesting'. I couldn't give a monkeys about the sound, you can achieve the same effect by starching your suit... Have you seen moong-moo done properly? I once saw the world champ (at the time) do it, bloody awesome

Have you seen moong-moo done properly? I once saw the world champ (at the time) do it, bloody awesome I've been taught half of moong moo, and I've seen at least 5 students at mydojang to do it. 3 of them perfectly. We have a new blue belt learning it because she is on the demo team and she is learning. I was elarning it for demo team as well, but I'm not flexible enough to control my kicks that well. I did elarn about half way through though. I Loved that pattern, but it was still 2nd to kwang gye. Moong moo I may add is not a normal pattern for anyone below 5 th dan black belt. the ppl who know it here, only 1 is 5th dan, and he frowns on us learning it. The others are 3 2nd dans, 1 blue belt, and lil ol me knowing half. To my insructor it's very good, considering how complex it can be.

Yeah, no one at my school does that pattern apart from my teacher, he will only ever teach someone a pattern a maximum of one above their grade regardless of whether they are on the team or not, and they have to have got their grading pattern down perfectly before he'll even think of doing it and they have to be overdue on their grading (his idea of perfect means that people very rarely learn patterns above their grading pattern). I love those slow reverse turning kicks, I really like to practise just those. Its not that difficult and really helps for reverse turning kick technique
