Different types of upbringing certainly had a different impact on different people.
Eve was not too fussy about her cups, her water, her cutlery, as long as it wasn't glaringly obvious that there was something wrong with it. Jada's habits did not entirely faze her, and she made no comment about it; it was her classmate's choice and she would respect that. They both ate, following the unspoken etiquette of Not Talking With Your Mouth Full.
"How is it?" The blonde asked, leaning forward as her eyes widened in anticipation. "Not too spicy, I hope?" Curry was a really wonderful dish, but it was too spicy, she found that she could not swallow much of it down, which was a pity because it meant that it was a waste of food.

Jada chewed. Swallowed. It wasn't all that- "Ah." It was a choked noise, as the spices started choking her up. Tears sprang to her eyes, her face going from its placid pale beauty to red as a beet in seconds. "Ah." She covered her mouth with one hand, fanning under it with the other.
She was crying.
This was delicious. It hurt. Finally she couldn't take it anymore and she reached out for one of the lemon slices, biting into it almost viciously, allowing the sweetly sour juice to pour into her her mouth and down her throat. "Oh, hell." Jada moaned, concisely. "That is delicious." She pointed at her plate. "Until it tries to kill you."

Eve could not help herself but giggle, covering her mouth with a hand as she did so. It wasn't only Jada's reaction upon eating the curry, it was also what she said. It took her a while to calm herself down, and ready her spoon for her turn.
"Let's hope it doesn't kill me then!" She announced as she dipped her spoon in. On the count of one, two, three...
The spoon was popped into her mouth and she now understood her companion's reaction, and she swore her cheeks were turning a bright pink as she felt her mouth burn. It was really good though; they were practically dying from it here. She drank the lime juice she had ordered before, and then gasped, blowing air out of her mouth. "Oh god, you're right." She could not help herself; she giggled again. "Well, at least we're still alive?"

It was Jada's turn to giggle. "We're going to need more lemon and lime." she said wisely, and flagged down the waiter. He grinned at them, visibly tried not to laugh at them, but came back with a pitcher of lime juice and a plate (not a saucer) of lemon wedges.
Jada glared at him, and he grinned cheekily before departing.
He was getting such a huge tip.
"Alright, so we made it out alive once." she agreed, and dipped her spoon again. "Lets go in together. Are you ready?"

"How exhilarating." Eve joked, eyes twinkling at the waiter as she nodded appreciatively at what he had brought, refilling her glass before taking a deep breath.
"Alright." She told Jada, scooping up the curry. "On the count of one, two..." On three, they would both lift the spoon to their mouths and swallow it down. Her other hand was already hovering near her glass of lime juice, just in case.

Together, the two young women finished their meal, with much waggling of hands, whimpers, and small giggles at the other when their faces twisted. The plate of lemon slices was gone by the end of the meal, and Jada had, at one point, cried. That was before her mouth went numb and she couldn't taste anything anymore.
Her tongue was swollen. She would swear it, up and down.
The waiter brought over the checks, and Jada swiped it, beaming at Eve. "Lunch is on me this time." It was the quiet insinuation that if she had her way, there would be a next.

"Next time we get ice cream." Eve mock groaned, leaning back into her seat with a grin. "And knowing us, we'll probably torture ourselves with brain freeze." It would probably be a very funny sight to other patrons around them. She didn't know if she would rate brain freeze to be better than curry burn, however. Both had its ups and downs.

"I can agree to that." Jada's black credit card dropped to the table with the check, pushed to the edge. "I love ice cream." but it would have to wait for next time, definitely. Right now her poor little belly was complaining about her torturing it. She patted her flat stomach. "It is okay." she told it, in response to its indignant anti-spice gurgle. "We'll go home and get you something."
The waiter came by, grabbed the credit card and check, and vanished towards wherever they processed payments. "Did you have anything else you were planning on doing?" Jada asked Eve while they waited. "I think I have everything, so I was going to make my way back to school after this."
The waiter was back. Jada showed her ID on request, beaming at the fact someone actually asked her. He set down the check on the table, saying, "I hope you girls have a good day!" The waiter started to walk away, but she put her hand on his wrist; Jada signed the check right there, wrote in the tip in the green pen he'd provided, and then let him go.
Good waiters deserved good tips. He blinked at the number, then beamed at the women. "Have a super day." he said again. He was looking at Eve with pink cheeks. He'd left the pen on the table.

"As sinful as it is," Eve said, referring to ice-cream and the dreaded calories it posed a problem to a teenage girl, "it's nice to indulge in it once in a while." Although she still couldn't really understand girls digging into a tub of it when they suffered from breakups, according to movies and television shows and whatnot. That seemed a bit too exaggerated for her to take seriously. Perhaps it was that she never really had serious heartbreaks that she couldn't sympathize?
"Going back to school." She agreed, and the two linked arms, chatting and giggling over the blushing waiter as they made their way back to the Crystal Academy dorms.
