"Waiting," Cretiahm muttered, "Letting time pass by like sand... and each year your oath grows more and more distant in your mind until one day it is dismissed as childish idealism, made to a father you never had but thought you wanted."

He lay his head down and closed his eyes.

"Go then and wait until you are strong. I shall die alone and without any sons."

---------

The human nodded his thanks and walked closer, carefully putting a hand on the spines that held the tissue of the wings. He was very careful, testing the strength of the remaining membrane and the ruined edges.

"Slashed away," the human muttered as he looked, "Burned to cauterize. Stopped any bleeding but dragon wings don't bleed that much. Only tiny veins in the membrane. No, whoever did this burnt the edges to make regrowth impossible."

He stepped back.

"Looks like Caleb's handiwork, light damn him. Dragon wings can grow back, especially since you're still young. They're very good about that as the membrane is thin and fragile and it's not hard to destroy it. But if it's burned? Not good. We can jump-start the regrowth with magic, but we have to get rid of the burnt edges first. And that," he said, moving to stand in front of her and holding up a knife for her to see, "is not going to be easy. But so long as the wounds are sealed the wings won't know to regrow."

((ooc 1: I hope that Thanos' tendency to see random flashes of others' thoughts and know what they are isn't godmoding. He can't manipulate them, obviously; but the idea of randomly reading them is something that I came up with in the first post and that looked like an awfully good strategy now.))

Thanos let out a low growl - not at his father, but at himself. His mind flailed wildly for a solution, as his inner strength of will writhed in frustration at being trapped in such a small body. Finally, fury overcame him, and he let out the closest thing to a roar that his young body could produce. "Then I will KILL him," he cried. "I will kill the man NOW!" The dragonet screwed up his eyes in further irritation when he realized he didn't even know where to begin to look for the man.

At this moment of intense frustration, an image began to form in Thanos' mind, seeming to block out his vision of his current location. In slow motion, he saw the white-haired human watching his father fall from the sky. The dragon crashed into a rock formation that was rather unusual, it reminded Thanos a little bit of a fellow dragon - and somehow he knew which way to go, and that it wasn't far. "Yes!" the little dragonet howled. "I will find him! And I will kill him!" Blinded with the joy of this knowledge and seemingly imminent success, coupled with freshly-rising bloodlust, Thanos turned and bounded off down the tunnel, headed toward where he somehow knew his father's killer had stood. As he ran, his eyes glowed like fire, and he softly chanted the word "Kill!" to himself over and over, enjoying the feeling of it rolling off his tongue, and the way his lips moved to form the word.

(((ooc 2: I know Thanos is too young to kill *anyone*, let alone that mysterious human who de-winged his father in midair, and that if he tries he'll only get himself killed...but Thanos doesn't know that. Hence, the word "Kill!" being spoken verbally - I'm aiming for him to start interacting with some other characters, not just go rushing off alone to die.)))

"Typical of a Fallen I guess," commented Astalder when he heard the dying Fallen had let no humans near him. While not exactly true for all of the Fallen, they did have a tendency to have a strong hate for humans he noticed.

Shaking his head, he glanced back at his bond before the two went on into the tunnels at their own pace once again. There wasn't much of a reason to go and follow the group after all. Even then, it wasn't too long before they caught wind of one of them again. At first it was fairly faint, but it soon became clear they were hearing "kill!" over and over again.

"What the..?" blinked Blade before he saw the one fallen hatchling come bolting down the tunnels again.

"Woah woah, slow down kid," said the black dragon while trying to get him to stop. A hatchling shouting out 'kill!' repeatedly while racing off somewhere probably wasn't a very good sign.

Thanos paused, but only because a dragon much larger than himself was in his way and was addressing him. "You - you don't understand," he blurted. "I can't slow down - my father's killer is going to escape - I have to find him, I have to kill him! I have to avenge my father...to be a true heir to my wings, I have to..." He realized he was babbling, and broke into a run again, dodging past his elder and once again hurrying off in search of the murderer.

The two exchanged glances momentarily with nearly the same thoughts running through their minds as they heard the child explain why he was in such a rush. As a result, Blade let out a sigh and rubbed the back of his neck while Astalder bolted off after the hatchling to try and grab a hold of him or at least to attempt to pin the fallen down.

"Calm down," he ushered as he tried to restrain the hatchling without harming him.

-Her eyes narrowed as the name Caleb sounded familiar she almost started to snarl at it as she vaguely started to remember what happen and when the bound was now position out in front of her holding the knife she took a couple steps back before she realized that he was a good human.-
"They would have to be re-cut again."
-She said as she worked up the courage to do what would be the best for her. Rushia then gained some composer as she looked like she can't believe that it was such a surprise to her.-
"I remember it hurting, I even think that's why I was bounded by these chains."
-She then took a deep breath-
"Please do what you must to make me well again."
-Her eyes then got big as her sadness that she felt started to show through-
"I do wish to some day fly."

Thanos tried to dodge as the larger dragon sought to grab him, but in his haste he lurched right into the other's reaching claws, and groaned. Once he realized he could no longer move, Thanos heard a small voice whisper from some corner of his mind. "Think, Thanos," it said. "Your prey is more than twice your size, and has killed your sire! If you really want to avenge him, ignore his words. Hold onto your hate - remember what you saw, what the b*****d did to your father; and when you're old enough, you WILL attain the revenge you both deserve!"

Thanos nodded mentally, then spoke aloud. "Then I will not kill him now," he replied. "But one day, I will make the b*****d suffer!" His brief interlude conversing with his common sense over, he recalled where he was, and acknowledged his captor. "I am Thanos," he said simply.

With a sigh, the adult dragon continued to hold onto the hatchling a little longer. It was nice and all that he had calmed down but he felt that he still didn't quite things were all and well just yet.

"Keep that on your mind and the vengence will only consume you," said Astalder sternly. Shaking his head, he lightly placed the hatchling down before introducing himself as well, "I am Astalder. And the human with me is Blade."

Seeing things had calmed down somewhat, Blade went on and joined the two dragons. Judging everything, he could only assume that the cause of the dying Fallen's ailment was something more malicious than sickness.

Thanos thought of snapping back that it was his duty as a dragon to stand up for his father, but thought better of it. The meaning of his elder's words had sunk into his mind, and he remembered the thoughts he'd been having before the news of his father's impending death had thrown his mind into total chaos. The dragonet realized it probably wasn't necessary to let bloodlust rule his life when he was so torn about humans' worth that it seemed to separate him from his fellow dragons.

"You know what, Astalder?" he said quietly. "You're right." He lowered his head slightly, not making eye contact, as he was feeling oddly embarrassed to have been seen in such an out-of-control state.

The human took a deep breath and conferred with his dragon master for a moment. The elder turned and left, vanishing into one of the curtained caves.

"It won't hurt," the human told Rushia, "My dragon is going to find some elixir that will make you sleep. We'll do everything while you sleep and you shouldn't feel anything. Please, go make yourself comfortable. My master is setting the room up. I need to go find some others to help... don't worry. We're going to fix this. You'll fly. I promise."

And he sheathed the knife and hurried over to Fam. They spoke briefly and the human pulled himself onto her back and she started off at a fast pace. It didn't take long to catch up to Astalder and Thanos. Fam slowed.

"I heard shouting," she said, "and then you ran off, hatchling. What's wrong? What did the fallen say?"

-Rushia was relieved that it wouldn't hurt as much as she feared it would so she listen to the human bound and found a spot out of the way as she still felt uneasy about them being cut again.-
"I hope the hatchling is ok."
PostPosted: Mon Mar 29, 2010 8:33 pm

The two stared at the hatchling as he replied. That seemed a little too easy for a young one that had appeared to be quite the stubborn one moments ago. After exchanging glances, Astalder was about to say something else but the sound of rushing footsteps could soon be heard coming from behind.

Seeing it was Fam, the black dragon decided it may be best to tell it as it was.

"Thanos here was rushing off to get revenge. I think he's calmed down now though," he replied.

Thanos felt the stares of Blade and Astalder, and somehow felt they didn't believe his change of mind was true. "Really," he said slowly. "Before the steward brought me here, I had the idea I wasn't going to fit in with - with other dragons, I didn't - and still don't - have any idea what to think of humans. Then that steward showed up, told me my father is dying... I came here, already very upset. My father - he refused to claim me as his son, for I have not avenged him! I just - I went berserk...I still don't know where I belong..." With a sad sigh, Thanos sought to wriggle free from Astalder's grasp, intending to wander off to be alone.

The elder glanced over at Rushia from where he was sorting through some clay jugs, each carefully labeled in human writing. He finally pulled two down and walked over to Rushia, shuffling carefully to avoid dropping them.

"He'll be fine," the dragon said, setting them down before her, "Our world is a difficult one. Best he learn to deal with that reality early. It seems you've already learned, young one, and I am sorry for that. Now, drink both of these, all of it. It'll make you very sleepy so as soon as you drink them, go lay down. We'll take care of the rest."

---------------

Fam slowed to a stop and sighed softly.

"Revenge? Against what? A ghost? Listen, hatchling, I don't know what that fallen said but his rantings are borderline insanity. He said he saw the white-haired human twice - and the second time was while he was flying. And the human touched his wings and he fell from the sky. How is that even possible? It's not. Humans can't fly. The fallen wasn't attacked - he's deranged."

The Steward shook her mane with a huff and started off down the hallway again. The human on her back twisted to look back at the dragons.

"If we could approach him, we could save him," he called out.

-She nodded in agreement in what he spoke of and she looked at the bottles and took one and downed it as she made a face as it didn't agree with her she then waited a moment and closed her eyes and just hurried with the other so it wouldn't taste to odd to her she then carefully put the bottle down and got of not sure how quickly the liquid did work but she walked straight in the room that was readied for her and curled up tucking her nose to her tail. and looked around the room for awhile till she slowly closed her eyes.-
