Alright, I'll get this out in the open: I think some of you are just being ridiculous. It wasn't yours to begin with, people have been fans since the stories were published. I understand that it's annoying to have people find interest in something you've liked for a while only because of something new coming out related to it, but you have to get over it. I'm sure when you first got into the stories you obsessed too; this is their time to obsess. Some of them will stick to it and read the books and take interest in where it all started, other will drop the topic as soon as the next fad rolls along.
Take, for instance, A Series of Unfortunate Events. I had never before heard of the series until the movie came out. I thought it was brilliant, and so I went and bought the entire collection of books, read them, then eagerly reordered the 13th, and became a true fan.
Hopefully, because of this new fad, we will add to our numbers. It should not be a time to selfishly horde Alice for ourselves, but to show the new fans what it's really about, and hope that they join us.
As far as my opinion on the movie goes: I love Burton in all that he's done. I've been excited for this movie since the very first mention of Burton directing his version of AiW years ago before any mention of actors who would be featured.

I do believe that I will wait until all the AiW stuff goes on sale before I get anything else. I just believe there's no point in buying it when it's full price :/

G0REgeous People should stop freaking obsessing over fads, it really is quite annoying when they decide to focus on one thing for the tiniest amount of time then allow their minuscule brains to shrink again as if they were drinking from the tart cherry bottle labeled to do so. I feel the pain of all those who have to deal with the ingrates believing that they have an idea of what Alice in Wonderland is about. As for the aforementioned re-write on Alice in Wonderland its true, the initial Alice in wonderland was much less kid friendly, more dark and true to the brothers grimm fairy tales. The Mad hatter was mad because of the general conception of his time for putting led (I think that's the element but I'm not sure) into hats to preserve them and truly was crazy because of it. They however softened it up later on for little kids so the one we know today is actually a powder puff in relation to the original. Or at least that is what I've been hearing.
The element was actually mercury, I believe, and though this is the basis for him being called 'mad,' I actually don't think that was ever specified in the books.

Which one, cause the one in Orange Park didn't have anything, only Hot Topic did. I'm going to the Town Centre this upcoming weekend, though, think they will?
And the Hot Topic had the 'Almost Alice' album on ale for $10 and of course they were sold out by the time I got there yesterday. -_-
And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

Yes, but remember why you got into A Series of Unfortunate Events because you thought it looked interesting, Most of the new fans for Alice are coming from over eager fangirls who are just wanting to see it for the whole fact it's Depp and Burton working together, yet again. That's why I don't think the new fanbase for Alice is too promising, because they're showing interest in the people, not the actual story for itself.
And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

Call me Hattress ¯`°¤.¸.¤¯`°¤.¸.¤¯`°¤.¸.¤¯`°¤.¸.¤ Call me Law @ Alice: it was the one at the Town Center. I was hanging out there yesterday waiting for one of my friends to pick me up, and I got tired of picking up books in Barnes & Noble that I knew I couldn't justify buying, so I went next door to Claire's and was bombarded with "Alice in Fashionland" stuffs. Some of it is quite adorable! *Wishes her birthday was sooner so that she could have birthday monies coming in to spend on adorable stuffs.* I did, however, also find a rather large selection of fingerless gloves/glovettes, which are kinda a new obsession of mine. I couldn't resist buying a couple of them.

Ahh alright. Excellent, I shall be sure to check out that Claire's when I'm down there looking for a dress this weekend. ^_^ Thank you very much. I have some money left over from buying wedding accessories (going to one on the 17th XD) sooo I might buy a couple of things this weekend at Claire's. >_> <_< ^_^ Since Pops is buying me the dress I'll wear, mwahahahaaaaa.
GAH!!! >_< I always look at those type of gloves when I'm in Hot Topic, Claire's, or Spencer's, but I can never find any that would go with a number of outfits, just specifically designed ones that would go with one or two, so I never buy them. >_<
And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

Still, as irritating as it is, there's really no point in getting so possessive and ranting over the whole thing. @what makes the hatter mad: I've read conflicting facts. I started making tophats myself not too long ago, and when I looked into what made the felt stay so stiff, I learned that arsenic was used in the lacquer to stiffen the hats. Coupled with the fact that mercury was used on the ribbons, it's no wonder the hatters went mad.

Ohh, I wasn't supporting being possessive, just stating the fact that most people aren't getting into for the same reasons and that his personal experience can't justify ALL newcomers for Alice, is all.
Ohh wow, arsenic as well? I knew about the mercury, but wow. Didn't expect arsenic, as well. o.O Hmm. Now I kinda wanna find a profession and learn about it where almost every element involved is poisonous and do a short essay on it...

. . . . Oh no something you've liked since you were a child and no one else cared has become popular . . . i don't get it.
Embrace it?
You know the scary religious fanatics who criticise everyone else's religions . . .little bit of a similar situation . . .?
People are free to like what ever version of what ever they like, if we're all in different places over the globe then many of us will have read different versions of what we all believe to be the "real" Alice in wonderland, our languages differ and so the way we interpret will also be very different.
Not wanting everyone to like what you like seems a little bit like "us VS them" is everyone not even? Does everyone not have the same rights to like what they want?
Or is segregation more your thing?

Oh no, it's not that at all. For people who are liking Alice now, even if it's the new version, if they're showing a genuine interest in the STORY itself, we're completely fine with that! We welcome it! It's for people who don't care about ALICE and who are only obsessing over it because it involves Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. A friend of mine, who always thought my obsession with Alice In Wonderland was odd, saw the trailer and saw, "Oh god, another one." THEN she saw that Johnny Depp was going to play the Mad Hatter and was like, "Omg! I have to go see it! It looks so amazing!" And ever since that, she's all of a sudden become an "Alice In Wonderland fan." I've got no problem with people showing an interest in Alice as long as it's for the right reasons; it's for reasons such as the above that MOST people are showing interest in it, though, and THAT'S why I disapprove of the new fanbase as a whole - because the great majority of them is comprised of fan girls such as my friend.
@Hattress: Well, first things first, I have to buy hair dye that's more what used to be my natural colour and a green dress to wear to a friend's dad's wedding on St Pat's Day. >_< But if I have enough left over and I buy anything, I'll be sure to let you know what it is and if it's a good item and worth it. Hot Topic has some nice items, too, one I looked at online was like a "pocket" watch type thing, it was a heart and a key chain, clipped onto other key chains, but dangled off like three chain links or so and was a clock. ^_^ You might like that.
And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?
