"I like my silly toes." Diona told him, she was pretty sure they weren't going to turn into a tail since they hadn't before when she had gone into water, but maybe this was magic water and that's how the boy got his tail. Diona stepped into the water slowly, waiting for her legs to turn into a tail, they didn't and she was slightly disappointed.

"Well, yes, they're very nice silly toes," he says. "But tails are much better for swimming." He goes to float next to her. "So what you gotta do is you gotta lean forward and move like this." He demonstrates by undulating across the surface of the water.
"I'll hold yer hands the first time if you want."
[This should be interesting....teaching her to swim. *I* don't know how to swim.]

"Uhm, otay..." Diona said hesitantly as she scooted a little further out into the water. "Brr, its cold" she shivered as she took his hands and tried to move like he was saying. It was very hard though, especially since she didn't have a tail like he did. "I don't think I'm doing it right." she said frustrated.

"Hm," says Toli, stroking his chin. "No, that isn't working. Can you move your toes to push yourself forward?" he asks. He tries to imagine what it'd be like if his tail was split in two. It's hard.
"Here, what if I get you started?" He swims back over to her and takes her hands. "Um, I'll pull you, and you try moving those toes. Ready?"

Diona tried to move her toes and swim while he was holding her, but just moving her toes wasn't doing anything. Naturally, her legs started kicking though and she was soon horizontal in the water with her head sticking out. "Hey look, I figured it out on my own." She told him, "But still hold on." even though she figured it out she didn't want him to let go and her sink.

"Yeah yeah yeah!" exclaims Toli enthusiastically. "You got it!" He swims backwards slowly, holding onto her hands and trying not to splash water in her face or hit her with his tail.
"I bet if you moved your arms too it'd help. I'm gonna let go and swim under you, and if you start to sink I'll catch you!"

"Oh no no no" Diona said in a worried tone, she did not want that boy to let go of her hands, she wasn't ready to swim by herself yet. Diona shook her head and kept kicking her legs, "Let me get used to this first, okay?" she didn't trust him enough to let him swim underneath her and hope that he was there to catch her.

Personally Toli doesn't understand what the big deal about sinking was...it's like the best part of swimming! Maybe she couldn't breathe underwater like he could. Hmph. Now he's really unconvinced that those toes are an improvement over his awesome tail.
"Okay, okay, I'm still holding onto you. Calm down," he says.

Diona glared at him for telling he to calm down, but it quickly went away because she didn't want him to let go if he got upset at her for making faces. Diona kept kicking her legs, this would get tiring really fast she could tell. She needed to try out her arms before she was completely exhausted. "Alright you can let go now." she winced.

"You sure?" he asks, beginning to loosen his grip. "I'll be right down here." Toli lets himself sink down under the water, gliding through it on his back, keeping an eye on her.

Diona nodded her head slowly. She wasn't entirely sure about this, she just had to hope everything would be alright. When he let go she started flailing her arms awkwardly in the water while trying to kick simultaneously. She moved forward a little bit, but her motions were way to all over the place to swim well.

Diona was getting tired fast with all of the flailing that she was doing. "I... don't... like... this..." she said in between breaths. They swam too differently for him to teach her how to do it. Nothing seemed to be working and she was frustrated. Diona slowly stopped paddling and hoped the boy was around to save her.

He notices her begin to sink, and acts quickly, sort of panicking.
"Hey hey hey!" exclaims, Toli, grabbing her and surfacing. "You stopped moving! You tired or somethin'? If you stop moving you'll sink, I think." He chews on his finger thoughtfully. "Maybe swimming is too hard. Or maybe I'm just not a good teacher. I dunno. I guess I just gotta tell you the cool thing I was gonna take you to see."

Diona nodded her head tiredly. Relieved that she didn't have to hold herself up anymore. "Can you take me back to shore..." she whispered. This was embarrassing needing help like this. "You can't bring the cool thing here? I really want to see it." she was being more friendly now, he deserved it.
