Shannon nodded, giving in to her will to survive. She slowed to let the truck pass, and followed behind the truck as the clams gained. She set a determined look on her face as she let go of the bike to dislodge the bullet from her leg. Her options for remedies were limited, but she knew of some plants that grew here that should help her wound.

Yet another clam latched onto her bike and managed to grab hold of her leg. It yanked and Shannon lost control of the motorcycle. It toppled over and trapped her good leg underneath, with the clam still attached to her injured calf. "Get off me, you filthy thing!" she yelled, bashing her hand into it's head. She pulled out her sword and swung it into the clam's back as the rest of the group began to flock to her.

As the truck went around the motorcycle, Tony saw a hand full of Clams zip by. He saw Shannon, her leg bleeding, maneuvering amongst the cars behind them. He watching in horror s one of the clams managed to grab hold of her, and she toppled, skidding along the cement. Tony rapped his knuckle hard on the rear window of the cabin. Not knowing weather he got Gabe's attention he shouted "Shannon just fell, we should go help her..." he wasn't particularly worried about saving her, but knew that they should help none the less.

GABE

[[Sorry if this is kinda graphic, I'm gonna put a warning on the front page of the RP-I just love completely beasting zombies : D ]]
Gabe cursed over and over. He was torn. With this vehicle now running, Tony and himself were going to get away, but if they stopped...their chances of escape dropped exponentially. Leaving Shannon there was the best option, though not the kindest one. Gabe ground his teeth before slamming on the brakes and turning the truck in a smooth motion. He accelerated back to where Shannon lay, another group of Clams descending upon her.

The truck skidded to a stop with an unsuspecting Clam half crushed under one of the wheels. Gabe grabbed his machete by the large hilt and pushed open his door. The Clam under the wheel screeched, it's long claws reaching to flay open Gabe's leg. He brought the heavy hilt of the knife onto the creature's head, cracking the skull and splattering his chest with gore. The body went limb and Gabe stepped over it as another Clam rushed towards him. This one sported a claw-like beak from its head, one that snapped menacingly as it leapt at Gabe. His machete came up to block it and the mouth snapped wildly around the machete's blade, sending brownish gray blood and spittle splashing onto Gabe's face. He shuddered and brought his knee up into the creature's abdomen, feeling bone crush. The eyeless face continued as if nothing happened. Finally, Gabe was able to wrestle the machete to his side, forcing the creature off. He rolled and pinned it beneath his body, brought the blade across it's head and severed the head, which rolled away still snapping sporadically.

Gabe jumped up and ran towards Shannon, he leveled his blade and brought it sweeping across the horde above her body. Several connections were made, and a few of the Clams fell to the side. Gabe was getting tired. The struggle with the second Clam had made his arms feel like jelly. A giddy thought crossed his mind as he remembered the red jiggly substance on a plate on his dining room table. He let his machete hit the ground, and reached for his pistol. Suddenly his face went blank. The pistol wasn't in its holster, it was sitting on the floor of the driver's side. Momentarily stunned, a Clam collided with Gabe's back, sending him sprawling on the asphalt. The tiny stones scratched across his face, sending little arcs of pain. The creatures claws buried themselves in the asphalt beside his face. He brought his elbow up and slammed the creature in the side. It flipped off him, crouching for another attack. Gabe took a deep breath. Way to be a hero dumbass he thought, beginning a run for his machete, hoping to God he'd get there on time.

(( xd Gore!! FTW!!))

Tony nearly rolled out the back as the truck spun around. The truck screeched to a halt, and Gabe proceeded with his slaughter. Tony hopped out of the bed before the truck had even come to a complete stop. He brought his STG to his shoulder, and dropped a Clam that had leaped at him. A second clam jumped from the other side of the truck and Tony smacked it out of the way with his rifle, making it smash into the tail light of the truck. He pressed the muzzle of the assault rifle to the dazed clams temple, and sprayed bits of skull and brain out behind it. Tony turned around, and saw Gabe fighting off the clams that here trying to maul Shannon. He was confused when Gabe dropped his machete purposely, but then saw that he must have forgotten his pistol in the truck. A clam attacked Tony just then, but he dropped it before it even had a chance to swing at him. Watching as a clam attacked Gabe, he brought the rifle to his shoulder, aimed carefully so as not to shoot Gabe and Shannon, and pulled the trigger.

There was a hollow 'click'. "Damn it." Tony breathed. He dropped the rifle in the bed of the truck, and pulled his pistol out of its holster. He dropped to on knee, and with practiced precision, fired three shots at the clam just over Gabe's shoulder. Two in the chest, on in the head. It dropped, a clean hole through its rotting skull. It didn't so much as twitch.

GABE

Gabe cried out involuntarily when three bullets ripped through the Clam above him. It collapsed and he grabbed his machete. Tony was in the back of the truck, smoke curling from the pistol steadied on his knee. Gabe whistled. "Good shootin' partner". With renewed vigor, he raced back towards Shannon and plunged his machete into one about to snap into her leg. It's body cleaved, he kicked it off the end of his blade. "Shannon!" he yelled, "You gotta get back in the truck!"

He began to get nervous. No shots had been fired from the Machine, and Gabe had no idea where it was. A sickening acid bubbled in his stomach. "Get those last few off you, we gotta bolt!" he yelled, more insistent at the struggling woman.

Shannon flinched back as the fight above her trapped body progressed, ending with the final clam hitting the ground near her head. She pryed her fingers under her bike and lifted it off her. Biting her lip, she rolled it over to the back of the truck. "Help me get it up. I'll stay in the back, Tony, get in the front with Gabe." she said with utter defeat.

Shannon hoisted her side onto the bed of the truck and heard a hollow thud as it landed. She winced, knowing she might not make the end of the trip. As soon as her motorcycle was up, Shannon climbed in beside it, making sure it would stay put. She turned to the men and, while setting a hand on her hip, pointed to the cab. "Get in. I'm serious. That machine is already here." she said, nodding to a nearby overpass. Sure enough, the machine lay in wait, staring at them with a cold glow in it's 'eye'.

GABE

Gabe's gut went cold when he saw the Machine. It only had one eye, the other hanging by some frayed wires out of the socket. Parts of the body were rusted, and a deep humming noise emanated from the thorax of the creature. Gabe stumbled for a moment getting back to the car, feeling like the world was in slow-motion. He pried open the door and jumped inside, feeling his leg scrape against the door. He winced and pulled it shut behind him. He shifted and the unthinkable happened: the car stalled.

The ice in Gabe's gut splintered. He felt as if he would pass out as he tried to turn the truck back on. After several horrible seconds, the truck rumbled back to life. A bullet ricocheted off the roof of the car, and Gabe hoped to God that Shannon and Tony would be ok in the back with the huge bike there too, because they had to go.

Gabe slammed the accelerator and the truck blazed forward. He maneuvered carefully, trying to avoid the cars frozen in time still littering the freeway. Just get away...Just get away! the voice in his head screamed.

Tony spun around as a hand full of clam began pulling themselves onto the freeway. Pulling his pistol, Tony dropped three and, after re-loading, the last one followed suit. He holstered his pistol, and turned around. He saw Shannon struggling with the bike, and Gabe hop into the cab. Tony jumped up onto the bed, helping pull the bike up. Finally int fell onto the bed, but on Tony's leg, stopping him from hopping into the front seat. "Damn it!" he shouted as a bullet pinged by, fired by the machine. Suddenly Tony herd the truck stall, and he held back a dozen curses. Then, just as abruptly it stared, and began its drive down the highway. Tony lay back against the cab, letting out an explosive sight. They may not be in the clear yet, but at least they weren't dead...yet.

Shannon ducked down as the bullet hit off the top of the cab. She heard the engine stall, and so she ducked down and held onto her bike. The truck pulled onto the highway, swerving and dodging other abandoned cars. Shannon bit her lip as her grip on the bike slipped a bit, accidentially letting it slide down the bed a little.

She noticed that Tony was pulled down with it, and she used all her strength to pull him back up farther. "Don't let go! How many miles to your hideout?" Shannon called over the wind. She hoped he would say something along the lines of, '1' or '2', but she couldn't be sure yet.

GABE

Gabe drove as he never had before, his senses seeming to tingle with electricity. The world outside the car seemed to become a blur. A dark blur.. the changing light was the only thing that brought him back to consciousness. He looked above him, around the twisted rear-view mirror, to see dark clouds gathering. He smiled, the realizations poring into his head all at once.

Rain would slow, if not put the Machine into stasis. Though it wouldn't hurt them, not by a long shot, it did seem to make them stop. I wonder if they don't like the rain because it reminds them of their past too... Gabe pushed the thought out of his head and continued to jam the pedal as the first drops of rain came splattering down. The highway soon melted into a main road that went through the remains of the suburbs. The areas always gave Gabe the creeps. People dead in their homes, trying to survive the plague. He shuddered.

After 20 more minutes of driving, the rain had turned into a fine drizzle and Gabe felt it safe to slow the car. He rolled down the window. "You two alright? And where's this place of yours Tony? I could sure take a load off! And I bet you both could stand to get out of this rain."

Shannon was relieved to reach the suburbs. It made her a bit jumpy, but the machine was nowhere in sight. She couldn't relax, though. She wasn't terrified of the dead bodies inside each house so much as she feared the creatures that could hide in them.

After a while, Gabe called back to them. "Yeah, I'm doing alright. My leg hurts like hell from the damned bullet, but I'll live." she called back to Gabe. he was really quite nice, but she still didn't trust him much. He could use her for bait anytime he wanted, leave her if she got hurt, but he didn't last time.

Shannon was baffled by all this. "Hey, Gabe. Why'd you save me back there? Do you realize how stupid that was?" she asked him. She added the last part in to let him know that she might not do the same for him, but she hoped he didn't get too offended.

GABE

Gabe thought for a moment in silence. "We're all that's left..." he said quietly. He snapped out of his daze and called back. "You were in trouble, and we survivors have to look out for each other." He wondered if she'd leave them once they stopped, making him slow the truck a bit. He looked in the rearview at the two bouncing in the back of his truck. He hadn't seen people in so long, it was strange to have such precious cargo in the back. Tony had been silent, and Gabe didn't want to keep pushing the man.

As he pulled off a main road he began looking for somewhere to stay. Down the road he saw a broken Shell sign. A small smile broke out on his face. Being a Western boy, he couldn't help but love gas stations, and they'd proved to be some of the best places he'd found to stay in this new world.

He pulled the clanking truck into the gas station's parking lot and pulled out his machete. The surrounding area was quiet, and he noticed plants growing on the side of the asphalt. His heart leapt. Plants were a sure sign that zombies hadn't been living in the area, but it was still safe to check. Clams rarely made it out into the suburbs, as they needed more flesh to survive than the regular horde. Gabe jumped out of the truck. "I'm gonna go take a quick look, make sure it's safe. If you wanna come, I'd be glad to have you. That Shell's bound to have food inside, and maybe even some weapons, it'll be a good place to spend the night."
