Society of Shadows
Hey. Saw you in the LD and saw your sig. I guess I can recommend a few.

If you're into dystopian societies:

Catch 22
Slaughterhouse FIve
1984 (MUST)
Brave New World

Read The Count of Monte Cristo. It's one of my favorite books. It's very long, though. That is also what she said.
I read slaughterhouse five last summer smile I dont remember it though, I managed to read about 5 World War II books in a semester, and I dont remember which was about what XD I didnt even mean to read any, I just had them either recommended to me or they were the only interesting looking ones at the thrift store, lol.

Thanks for the rest smile I meant to read more classics this year, so I'll definately try to read the Count of Monte Cristo.

The Sherlock Holmes books are classics! GET TO THEM TOO! The writing in those books are so freaking good, I'm contemplating tossing Card off as my favorite author and placing him second to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

I have a world lit class and for two months a theater class (where we will be reading four plays, not acting them out razz ) this semester so soon I may not be able to do a lot of fun reading myself. It always bums me out when school stuff takes up too much time to read for fun.

Oh, and I haven't tried reading it yet (think I will once I finish this current story of Sherlock Holmes) is "Arsene Lupin, Gentleman-Thief" (and other books including that character) by Maurice Leblanc. Rather hard to find his books (even ordering through a company like Barnes and Noble) translated in English though. Pretty much it's Leblanc's counter to Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Also, if you have ever seen Lupin the Third (it be an anime), well the main character in that is suppose to be the grandchild of Leblanc's character Lupin.

[Adverb here, forgot to swap back out accounts razz )

HOLY FLIP, THE OLD GAIA LAYOUT.

                                      Ahem.

:3 I found you in Life Issues. I love your name, BTW.

I would suggest to you any book by Will Hobbs -- 'The Maze' and 'Bearstone' in particular come to mind.

Also, 'The Wizard of Earthsea' and 'Lost Years of Merlin' are awesome series to check out.

EDIT: Also, read 'The Scarlet Pimpernel' if you haven't already. xD

I suggest Homage To Catalonia.
It's Orwell.
When he fought in the Spanish civil war back in the day.
Pretty wicked.

The Night World series. It's not Twilight.
It has vampires, yes. Werewolves, yes. But you can kill these with silver bullets and wooden stakes.
There are witches, adventures. It's truly a wonderful series.
Also try Dark Visions.

Thanks for all the suggestions whee

A Walk In The Woods is taking me FOREVER!!!!! to read. I think its because its non-fiction. Its really interesting and funny and I like it, but it doesnt suck me in. There is no super fun drama that I just HAVE to keep reading. I'm finally down to the last 50pages though.

Back in the day (elementary/middle school) I loved Animorphs.

"Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer should be good; based off a true story. Haven't read it, but the movie that came out in 2007 really sucked me in.

sweatdrop Sorry I keep adding more, but I do love to read and have a small collection of books myself. -prefers to read and keep rather than borrowing or reading and selling it off- I'm kinda sad I have most of them packed up until I move in the summer though.

I finally finished A Walk in the Woods. And now I really want to go walking in the woods XD BUT ONLY DAY WALKS. Not hiking for weeks on end, I would die gonk Or just not be at all happy. Anyways it was a really good book. I love Bill Bryson, this is the second book of his I read (A (The?) Sunburnt Country was the first) and he has a great sense of humor, and is a really good story teller. THUMBS UP TO HIM smile

I have no clue what book to read next, so lets RNG! No nature or non-fiction books though. Unless its a memoir, I like those. And it has to be in my school library because I'm broke like that >.>

Adverb! All your suggestions are great whee I think they refrenced "Into the Wild" in "A Walk in the Woods" but I'm not positive. They referenced a lot of books with wild in the name XD I am not up for another true story wilderness tale right now, but maybe in a few months 3nodding

I ******** loved Animorphs back in the day smile

I cannot more strongly recommend God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. It takes place in India, so you need to know a little about Indian culture. (Nothing Wikipedia won't tell you.)

It's about a pair of fraternal twins, Rahel and Estha, raised by their divorced mother and separated at age 7. It reverts between their childhood in 1969 and their adult reunion at age 31. It covers topics such as abuse, feminism, religion, communism, sexuality, and caste. It's a fantastic novel, I could barely put it down.
